Jimmy Kimmel to host The Oscar Awards for a third time

Mumbai: Emmy Award-winning late-night talk show host and producer Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the 95th Oscars. This is Hollywood’s most prestigious awards show. The announcements were made by executive producers and showrunners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner. Kimmel hosted back-to-back broadcasts in 2017 (the 89th Awards) and 2018 (the 90th Awards). Molly McNearney will serve as an executive producer. The 95th Oscars will air live on ABC in the US and in broadcast outlets in over 200 territories worldwide on Sunday, 12 March, 2023. In India, the show will air on Star Movies Live early in the morning on 13 March. It will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.

“We’re super thrilled to have Jimmy score his hat trick on this global stage. We know he will be funny and ready for anything!”, said Weiss and Kirshner.

“Jimmy is the perfect host to help us recognise the incredible artists and films of our 95th Oscars. His love of movies, live TV expertise, and ability to connect with our global audiences will create an unforgettable experience for our millions of viewers worldwide. With Kimmel, Weiss, and Kirshner’s fresh perspective and masterful guidance, the Oscars will celebrate its rich 95-year history, the collaborative nature of moviemaking, and our diverse, dynamic, and deeply creative community of filmmakers,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and Academy president Janet Yang.

“Having Jimmy Kimmel return to host ‘The Oscars’ is a dream come true. As we see every night on his own show, Jimmy can handle anything with both heart and humor, and we know that he will deliver the laughs and celebratory moments that define the Oscars. We love being the home of Hollywood’s biggest night and can’t wait to toast the success of this year’s cinema and storytelling,” said ABC Entertainment, Hulu, and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals president Craig Erwich.

“Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honour or a trap. Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said ‘no,’” said Kimmel.

Kimmel serves as host and executive producer of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and recently signed a three-year contract extension, making him one of the longest-running talk show hosts in American television history.

MUMBAI: We live in times when women are known to be fearless, powerful, intelligent and raring to go. It would not be wrong to state that women today are closer to achieving their dreams, no matter how impossible they may seem, than ever before. Be it the creative or corporate world, there is no industry where women haven’t made their mark. Arts, literature, finance, media, F&B and even sports, there are names of women that shine through in each field. The recent Olympics saw women shine through, winning India accolades with their talent, hard work and admirable skills. However, while success comex their way, it cannot be said that their triumphs are not without struggles. From facing sexism to gender-based doubts about their capability to threats to their general safety – women across the globe still fight battles to be accepted and seen as equals in a number of situations.

The second episode of brand new television series Pitch which premiered on Star World and Star World HD last week, showcases some of the very real struggles women today face inspite of their talent and capabilities. Pitch the story of a young pitcher, Ginny Baker, who becomes the first woman to play Major League Baseball for the San Diego Padres. But proving her mettle in a man’s game is not the only challenges young Ginnay has to face. From proving her worth to being accepted in the team as an equal to facing misogyny not only by her teammates but even her coach, Ginny has her work cut out for her. The second episode of the show, ‘The Interim’ delves deeper into Ginny’s struggles as she tries to establish herself as a baseball player and not just a pretty face.

The episode sees the team manager Al face flak for a video, shot a few years before, in which he talks about then AA-League player Ginny and how her beauty means that a lot of his guys would welcome her in the locker room – a sexist comment that simply waves off Ginny’s talent as a player. The episode has Ginny addressing this issue on her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! where instead of taking part in a comedy bit about decorating the clubhouse called “Ginny Baker, Redecoraker”, she uses her time on the show to publicly support Al, calling him a good man, and to comment on a sports-related rape case that’s been in the news. “We don’t need to make sure every girl goes in the right room, we need to make sure that every boy knows it’s wrong to rape,” she says – A strong statement indeed in times when the number of rape cases and cases of violence against women seem to be skyrocketing.

Talking about the episode, co-creator Rick Singer said, “Jimmy couldn’t have been more amazing. We worked a little bit with him in terms of crafting how the scene was going to unfold, but within that we just sort of established that at the top of the scene they were just going to naturally speak to one another. A lot of that banter up top was improv’d. Jimmy was just interviewing Ginny Baker and Kylie was answering as Ginny Baker and it’s very natural and really interesting. Then, they sort of delve into the scene, but it was really fun. We also knew it was her first appearance on a nighttime talk show like this. So we knew that there were going to be these natural nerves on her part that were going to completely work for the scene and work for the character because it’s Ginny’s first appearance as well.”

He further added, “I have to give enormous credit to Kylie because we did this during a Jimmy Kimmel Live taping. They had an extended commercial break, but we had one take. We did that in one take and Kylie just absolutely nailed it. We were sitting there in the green room and all just on pins and needles because we knew there was no margin for error and it just came off perfectly. The actual words themselves were written by Dan Fogelman and that’s never a bad thing. It was really well done. I think we are really able to straddle that line without getting too preachy, but making a very valid point and the fact that all of these stories that get nationalized and become about other things when they’re really very simple stories about the fact that victims get blamed all the time, things get politicized. When it really just comes down to it, she says it’s just a question of right and wrong. I think Dan wrote the scene beautifully and Kylie delivered it. Delivering it on Kimmel in that way, it really came alive with that live studio audience reacting spontaneously. The audience had no idea what the content was. They had no idea what the context was. Ultimately, what they ended up hearing was this speech and it’s just a natural response once they figured out what the scene is about and what she was saying.”

Pitch airs on the channel every Tuesday at 9 pm.

Matt Damon gate crashes the latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live

MUMBAI: Actor Matt Damon took popular host and friend Jimmy Kimmel by surprise on the latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!. The actor hilariously gate crashed one of the show’s popular segments, filmed in Las Vegas. In the segment, Kimmel introduces Aunt Chippy who is playing blackjack at a casino in LA to try and win money for the show’s studio audience, but to Kimmel’s surprise Aunty Chippy wasn’t alone. Matt Damon was sitting right next to her dressed in a pair of sunglasses and a fine mullet wig!

Spotting Matt at the table, Kimmel quipped, “Hold on — there’s not supposed to be anyone else at the table,” and Aunt Chippy replied, “If I knew he was going to be here, I would’ve shaved my legs, Jimmy.”

When asked about his sudden appearance, the actor said, “I’m just a city boy, born and raised in South Detroit. I took a midnight train going anywhere.” “Thought maybe I’d play some cards with Aunt Chippy,” said Damon, who explained he was in Vegas for the premiere of “Jason Bourne”.“I don’t know — is that a crime?”

Aunt Chippy who has a fantastic track record of winning at the game was actually at the losing end in spite of Matt’s generous offer to keep the game going. Damon was feeling generous, he said, “Hang on. Wait a minute. Jimmy, I was thinking, you know. I don’t know if you’ve ever seen $10,000, but I personally like your studio audience a lot, and I feel like some of them like me. I think we’ve gotta do this again.”

But of course, that did not help.

Looks like, it was bad day for the Jimmy Kimmel Live audience, but, definitely a good day for the two.

The duo have been close friends for years now, and keep pulling pranks on each other much to the amusement of fans. Throughout the episode they kept calling each other out and the actor even said he’d love to do the segment again.

MUMBAI: The beautiful Emily Blunt appeared on the latest episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! promoting her upcoming fantasy film, The Huntsman: Winter’s War. During her chat with popular host Jimmy Kimmel, Blunt spoke about her special Frozen connection, her little admirer, riding an imaginary animal and her panic attack during her husband’s on-stage fashion disaster.

The show will air on 20 April 2016 at 11 pm.

With her character Freya, the Ice Queen in her upcoming film strongly resembling Elsa from Frozen, Kimmel pointed the striking similarities out to the actress, to which the actress revealed he wasn’t the only one. She said, “Charlize’s son was on set a lot and he’s obsessed with Frozen so he really thought I was Elsa,” Blunt said. “And then he got really disappointed because he saw me in my sweatpants one day with the white hair on, and he just looks at me and goes, put on your dress. Like, he was really bummed about it. Put it on now.”

But that’s not all, according to Kimmel, the actress looked like a lump on a golf cart while shooting for the film, all thanks to the imaginary wolf-bear! Thecharacter Freya rides a wolf-bearinto battle, but since it actually doesn’t exist, Emily was required to ride a green contraption to give the same effect.

Blunt had to mimic a swaying movement while riding side-saddle in the golf cart, which she hilariously replicated for Kimmel. She revealed, “So I’m just like this on it, driving at a glacial pace towards the other actors, and I just remember coming towards Jessica Chastain and she was like this, trying not to laugh ‘cause she knew if she made me laugh, the whole shot would be ruined,” Blunt said. “You’re talking about 50 horses, 100 extras. The reset takes an hour.”

Blunt also spoke about a panic attack she got thanks to her husband’s recent fashion disaster while onstage for his play. She told the host, “John came out for his first scene, and his suit jacket was tucked into his pants… like, really tucked… wedged… I heard myself say, oh my God, no. And I just knew that everyone was gonna see… everyone’s gonna get the right angle at some point… I was panicking.” The actress felt a sense of gratitude towards the savior Hank Azaria, her husband’s co-star who came behind and removed the jacket before too many audience members noticed. “
