    Saurabh and Vivek launch dance championship ‘Born 2 Dance’

    KOLKATA: East India’s biggest dance championship –‘BORN 2 DANCE – One Chance one Dance’ is a championship, where people from a few districts of Bengal like Medinipur, Durgapur, Barrackpore, Sreerampore and Siliguri and few nearby states like Orissa, Jharkhand, Bihar and  Assam can participate, inclusive of Kolkata and Howrah.

    It is the brain child of Saurabh and Vivek, Fame – DID Finalists2011, who have been a part of many reality shows and won many of them too. The event will cater to the age group between three to 30 years and will have special solo rounds for moms and dads too along with doubles and groups as categories too. The winner of the entire event would be awarded with a cash prize of Rs one lakh. The auditions at Kolkata will be held on 22, 23 and 24 December. All the finalists of the event would be given a three day grooming workshop by the duo.

    The finale event will be held on 7 January 2015 at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata and will be judged by Salman Yusuf Khan, (Dance India Dance Winner, Jhalak Dikhla Ja Winner, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Debut Movie – ABCD).

    On this occasion, the duo commented, “Since we have been a part of many reality shows, we understand the difficulty of being a part of the same. So, we decided to launch Born 2 Dance, where people from all over East India could participate in a Dance Competition and get a chance to be groomed and trained by us to become capable of being a part of reality shows too. Kolkata has witnessed many dance competitions but one that brings together people from all nearby states too will happen now”

    Market Concepts owner, Chetna Karnani, said, “The sole objective of this event is to bring out the talents of deserving dance aspirants, by providing them with a platform through a state level competition and hence it will help pull a participation of over 7000 people.”

    Sony to launch ‘Kaajjal’ on 9 Oct; ‘Bigg Boss’ coming mid-November

    MUMBAI: The channel may have dropped out of the ratings reckoning, but Sony Entertainment India is now making its best efforts to make a comeback.

    Sony will unleash its big ticket soap Kaajjal, produced by K Sera Sera’s Twenty Twenty TV, on 9 October, whereas the much-awaited Bigg Boss, the Indianised version of Big Brother, is targeting a mid-November launch.

    “We are planning to launch Kaajjal, a daily soap, on 9 October. The schedule and slot details for this soap are yet to be finalised,” Sony COO NP Singh tells indiantelevision.com, while not revealing his plans for Bigg Boss.

    However, market sources inform that Bigg Boss will hit the airwaves by mid-November – immediately after the Champions Trophy gets over. “Bigg Boss will be a prime time show, running Monday through Friday. The show will feature about 15 celebrities and the participants will include Bollywood stars, cricketers and politicians. Bigg Boss will get over by January 2007,” says a source.

    According to Singh, Sony will kick off the Bigg Boss promotions by the second week of October. “The on-air promotions are already on. Now we will be looking at outdoors and the other media platforms in a big way for the second phase of the campaign,” he says.

    The Indian version of Bigg Brother will be Sony’s fourth Endemol acquisition after Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul and Fear Factor India. Reportedly, Big Brother contributes to over 25 per cent of the format owner Endemol’s revenues internationally.

    The Big Brother (Bigg Boss) format requires 10 – 15 contestants living in a house rigged with cameras recording every moment of their lives. The contestants are deprived of contact with the outside world except those allowed by the editorial team. Every week there are tasks to perform, which test their community spirit and team-work. Throughout the series, the contestants are required to nominate two of their number to be voted out of the house.

    Bigg Boss acquires a crucial place in Sony’s gameplan for the coming days as nearest rivals Star and Zee have also unveiled big projects to sustain their performance. To boost is daily 8 pm slot, Star Plus has opted for a sci-fi series, Antariksh. Zee has launched its mega soap project Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann for the crucial 10 pm slot and has Antakshari and Cine Star Ki Khoj coming up next in the pipeline.

    Star One is gunning for huge jump in channel shares with Nach Baliye 2, the celebrity dance show that propelled the channel’s performance in 2005, and a brand new soap Betiyaan apni yaa…Paraaya Dhan. Countering the Star property on the reality front is Sony’s Jhalak Dikhla Ja, the Indian adaptation of the ABC reality show Dancing with the Stars.

    For the time being, Sony’s gameplan has a lot to do with these well acclaimed international formats. It remains to be seen, whether these international properties will be able to drive Sony to a position of strength in the coming days.

    Sony to launch adaptation of ‘Dancing With the Stars’ in September

    MUMBAI: Reality shows and Sony Entertainment Television (SET) go hand in hand and have more or less become synonymous with each other. Having already launched Indian Idol, Fame Gurukul and Fear Factor and with the buzz being high on upcoming new launches like Big Brother and Extreme Makeover; comes another adaptation of the ABC’s reality show Dancing With the Stars on Sony.

    The Indian adaptation – Jhalak Dikhla Ja – will be co-produced by Siddhartha Basu’s Synergy Communications and Theatre Red and is scheduled to launch in the first week of September. Jhalak Dikhla Ja will be a bi-weekly show and will involve a high level of audience participation and viewer interactivity.

    Dancing with the Stars is the American version of the BBC TV series Strictly Come Dancing. The concept of the show is to pair a celebrity with a professional dancer in an attempt to win a high score from a panel of three judges and then a majority of votes from the viewers, who can call in or vote online. The person who receives the lowest score is eliminated.

    SET India senior vice president and programming head Anupama Mondloi says, “We will have celebrities from different walks of life like television, Bollywood, cricket and hospitality industry.”

    When queried as to how Jhalak Dikhla Ja will be different from Star One’s successful show – Nach Baliye – which was based on the same lines, Mondloi says, “All shows have certain amount of similarities whether it is a soap or a reality show. The key differentiator of Jhalak Dikhla Ja will be the viewer interaction. We will be looking at having maximum touch points for viewers to select their favourite celebrity and choreographer pair.”

    As per the original format, phone lines open at the beginning of each show for viewers to vote for their favorite couples and stay open for 30 minutes after the show ends. The couple with the lowest score is knocked out of the competition and one couple will be knocked out of the competition each week, starting with the first week. Online voting options are also made available and only one vote per email address is allowed.

    With its pulse firmly on the reality meter, Sony will be launching the local version of Big Brother in November this year. On the other hand, Extreme Makeover will launch sometime early next year along with the second season of Fear Factor India. Another reality show on the cards is Paisa Bhaari Padega. The subsequent seasons of Indian Idol and Fame Gurukul also cannot be dismissed altogether!

    Only time will tell whether the reality overdose will eventually lead to viewer fatigue on Sony; but it’s worth keeping in mind that reality shows are just spurts in the overall programming scenario and hence Sony will also have to pull up their socks on some high voltage drama and fiction front. New fiction shows on Sony like Thodi Khushi Thode Gham, Aisa Desh Hai Mera, Vaidehi and Akela still have to pick up steam on the ratings front, where Star shows are omnipresent and Zee’s Saath Phere, Kasamh Se and Sambhav Asambhav too are definitely making a mark.
