    American Hustle gets ensemble award from Palm Springs Film Festival

    The cast of David O. Russell’s fictional movie based on the 1970s Abscam scandal will be feted 4 January during an Awards Gala at the  Palm Springs International Film Festival.

     

    The Ensemble Performance Award celebrates the film’s cast, which includes Amy Adams, Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Jeremy Renner, Louis C.K., Michael Pena and Alessandro Nivola.

     

    “David O. Russell has created a viscerally powerful film,” said PSIFF chairman Harold Matzner. “American Hustle grabs you from the start and is populated by a group of eminently believable characters as brought to life by this brilliant cast.” The festival’s 25th edition runs January 3-13.

    David O. Russell’s ‘American Hustle’ to close Dubai Film Fest

    MUMBAI: David O. Russell’s American Hustle, starring Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Jeremy Renner, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Louis CK and Robert De Niro has been chosen to close this years’ Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).  The fest runs between 6-14 December.

     

    The 10th edition of DIFF, which is being held under the patronage of UAE vice president, prime minister and ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum will be the first festival to screen  American Hustle.

     

    Italia Films will release the Sony Pictures-backed film in the Middle East.

    Sequel of Avenger to roll early next year

    MUMBAI: Filming of the sequel of Avengers Assemble will begin later this year with the film set to roll early next year.
     
    Though the film‘s plot and cast have not been revealed, but it will be written and directed by Joss Whedon, who had directed the first installment.
     
    Stars of the original who might return include Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury and Chris Evans as Captain America.
     
    The film is scheduled for a 2015 release.

    Berry, Bullock, Kidman and Witherspoon join list of Oscar presenters

    MUMBAI: Halle Berry, Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon will present at this year‘s Academy Awards on 24 February.

    With this announcement, the four join a list of previously announced Oscar presenters including Mark Wahlberg, the cast members of The Avengers like Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson, Chris Evans, Jeremy Renner and Mark Ruffalo.

    Last year‘s winners Jean Dujardin, Christopher Plummer, Octavia Spencer and Meryl Streep will also present at the ceremony.

    Others on the list are the cast of Chicago namely Richard Gere, Queen Latifah, Renee Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones, special guests Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Daniel Radcliffe, Channing Tatum and Charlize Theron.

    Berry won an Oscar for her performance in Monster‘s Ball in 2001, Bullock for The Blind Side in 2009, Kidman for The Hours in 2002 and Witherspoon for Walk the Line in 2005.

    Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters to release 1 Feb in India

    MUMBAI: Tommy Wirkola‘s action horror Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters is all set to hit the silver screens in India on 1 February.

    The film was released worldwide on 25 January.

    The film revolves around the siblings Hansel (Jeremy Renner) and Gretel (Gemma Arterton), who after being put through a tragic childhood, have grown up to become professional bounty hunters. And we‘re not talking about killing criminals or robbers here.

    The siblings are out to hunt and kill witches all across the world. After having been tricked and tortured by an evil witch at the Gingerbread house, the duo has grown up with the belief that revenge is sweeter than candy.

    A mysterious turn of events brings back some familiar, but not particularly welcoming faces from their childhood. Later, the witch hunt is taken to a whole new level.
