    Wolverine actor to play legendary pirate Blackbeard in upcoming film

    Hugh Jackman, the Academy Award nominated actor, is in negotiations to play the legendary villainous pirate Blackbeard in Warner Bros upcoming feature film on the origin of J.M. Barrie’s classic creation Peter Pan, tentatively titled, Pan.

     

    Joe Wright (Anna Karenina) is directing Pan from a script by Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift) with Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Brothers & Sisters) serving as producer. The role was reportedly originally offered to Javier Bardem, who ended up passing on the project.

     

    In this film, Blackbeard will be Pan’s main antagonist, while Captain Hook serves as an ally. Hugh Jackman was recently seen sharing screen space with Academy Award winner, Jake Gyllenhaal in the critically acclaimed eerie psychological abduction thriller, Prisoners. Jackman had been in discussions for a handful of films before committing to Pan including the antagonist in Warner Bros “The Incredible Mr. Limpet” remake.

     

    As to who will play the titular character of Peter Pan, Warner Bros is expected to do an open casting and find a discovery for the role.

    MUMBAI: Javier Bardem, the baddie from Skyfall and No Country For Old Men may soon be playing another negative character. Reports suggest that the actor has been approached by Warner Bros. for the role of the lead villain, Blackbeard for its untitled Peter Pan project.

     

    The actor was recently seen in Ridley Scott’s The Counselor along with his real-life wife Penelope Cruz and among others like Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt. He will next be seen in The Gunman with Sean Penn and Idris Elba.

     

    Warner Bros. is also in talks with Joe Wright to direct the film from the Jason Fuchs script. While till now the plot details are being kept under wraps, the announcement has garnered a lot of attention. The film is certain to bring back the characters created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie about a boy who can fly and never ages.

    MUMBAI: Javier Bardem, who played villain Raoul Silva in the latest James Bond film Skyfall, has been nominated for the Best Supporting Actor award along with other big names including Tommy Lee Jones at the British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA).

    On the other hand, his Skyfall co-star, Dame Judi Dench, has been nominated for Best Supporting Actress for her role as spy master M in the same film.

    In all, Skyfall has a total of eight nominations. The film has been nominated for Outstanding British Film and Original Music by Adele who provided the hit Bond theme of the same name.

    The film has also picked up nominations for cinematography, editing, production design and sound.

    MUMBAI: Javier Bardem, who plays the villain in the latest James Bond film Skyfall, has become the latest celebrity to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
    The Spaniard who is married to Penelope Cruz was joined by his James Bond director Sam Mendes as well as cast mates Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe at the ceremony.
    According to sources, Bardem‘s acceptance speech was full of humour and he even poked fun at his broken nose, that was the result of a bar fight several years ago.
    Bardem enthused, “Javier Bardem Day. That‘s so cool. And what‘s that like? Does everyone have to walk with a broken nose around Hollywood Boulevard?”.
    The actor follows in the footsteps of his wife of more than two years Penelope who received her Hollywood star in April last year.
    The 38-year-old actress was presented with her honour from her Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides co-star Johnny Depp. Javier‘s star is located in front of the El Capitan Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard.

    MUMBAI: Now that the casting of the James Bond film Skyfall is nearing finalization, Ben Whishaw has been cast to play gadget maestro Q in the film. Whishaw‘s role would be that of the MI6 boffin who traditionally dishes out the gadgetry to 007 for his missions.

    The actor joins the cast led by Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes and Albert Finney among others, is reported to have been assigned the role for the Sam Mendes directed actioner.

    It is very heartening to note that Whishaw will be the first Q in the franchise‘s history to be younger than 007. While he is 31, Craig is 43.

    Q is a James Bond staple for older 007 fans as he hasn‘t appeared in a Bond adventure since 2002‘s Die Another Day when John Cleese essayed the role.

    For the previous 36 years, the gadget whizz and inventor had been played by Desmond Llewelyn.

    Skyfall is scheduled to release in the UK and Ireland in October 2012 and later in November the same year in November.

    MUMBAI: The 23rd instalment of the James Bond series has been eventually named Skyfall that will have Daniel Craig returning as the fictional spy for the third time.

    Directed by Sam Mendes, the new 007 film will go on the floors on November 7, while it is scheduled to release on October 26, next year in the UK and November 9, in North America.
     
    The new film will see Bond`s loyalty to M (Judi Dench) tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.

    “We`re so delighted to have Sam Mendes direct Skyfall and be working once again with Daniel Craig. We`ve a great script, an extraordinary cast and an incredibly talented creative team for this latest James Bond adventure,” producers Wilson and Broccoli said in a statement.

    The film, produced by Albert R Broccoli`s Eon Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios and Sony Pictures Entertainment, has been written by Neal Purvis & Robert Wade and John Logan.

    Apart from Craig and Judi Dench, the starcast includes heavyweights names like Javier Bardem as the Bond nemesis, Naomie Harris and Berenice Marlohe as Bondgirls. Others in the cast include Ralph Fiennes, Albert Finney and Ben Whishaw.
