  • Demand for regional commentary in tier 3 & 4 towns: Chrome DM

Demand for regional commentary in tier 3 & 4 towns: Chrome DM

MUMBAI: From only speaking in English to including Hindi to now giving each region a voice in its own language, cricket commentary in India has progressed over the years. There is a fair demand from consumers to watch and listen to content in their language. Commentary in regional languages not only multiplies the excitement among the viewers but also increases the fun and entertainment quotient of the game.

Chrome Data Analytics & Media conducted a detailed research to understand the response of the public on the Indian Premier League (IPL) commentary in regional languages and the commoner’s preference of the language.

The survey was carried out in the Indian markets with a sample size of 873 with 64 per cent males and 36 per cent females between the age groups of 15 and 55+.

Star India has devoted four channels for the regional feeds of the IPL apart from Hindi—Star Sports 1 Tamil (Tamil), Suvarna Plus (Kannada), Jalsha Movies (Bengali), Maa Movies (Telugu).

From the sample, 83 per cent watch IPL and the remaining 17 per cent are not interested. 26 per cent of the respondents stated Tamil as their mother tongue, 23 per cent said it was Telugu while 20 per cent responded with Kannada.

Hindi is the most preferred language for IPL commentary followed by English and Tamil. The language of commentary does affect the viewership as a large portion of respondents would prefer to watch the match in their regional language.

According to the survey, 100 per cent people speaking Bengali and Kannada are willing to watch the matches in their language, 67 per cent of the Malayalam speaking audience is willing to watch the matches in its mother tongue and 33 per cent is comfortable with other languages as well. The Telugu-speaking audience doesn’t concentrate on the commentary with 82 per cent being comfortable in any language and just 18 per cent want the commentary in their mother tongue.

Cricket commentary in regional languages will not only foster new connections with existing viewers but will also increase the viewership as new audiences will find it a comfortable proposition.

While the IPL cricket commentary was primarily in English, with the increase in its viewership from tier III and IV cities, the demand for regional language commentary has grown manifold. Customised regional content, especially cricket commentary, can bridge the language barrier between semi-urban dwellers and the sport.

Star India celebrates this announcement by launching a TVC featuring Bangla superstar and a big VIVO IPL fan, Prosenjit Chatterjee.

The film opens with Prosenjit in his living room, looking for something. As he strolls about, he excitedly starts talking about possible match scenarios. As the film progresses, the viewer realizes that it’s his TV remote that Prosenjit is looking for, following which he reveals that VIVO IPL 2018 will be more special this year as the Bengali cricket fans will get to catch the Best vs Best action in their mother tongue, Bangla! The driving thought behind the initiative is that the pride of watching your favorite sporting spectacle in your own language is an experience like never before.

Mr. Prosenjit Chatterjee, while commenting on his association said, “I’ve always been a cricket enthusiast and VIVO IPL has been one of the tournaments I look forward to every year. I’m excited about my association with Star India for VIVO IPL 2018 and looking forward to enjoying the best of cricketing action in my mother tongue.”

West Bengal is a unique market with high affinity to language content and very distinctive viewing habits. Star India’s strong presence in the state has helped the broadcaster understand the pulse of the Bangla cricketing fans. The film with Mr Prosenjit Chatterjee is an extension of Star India’s belief to give the Bangla sports fan more personalised content and further enhance the universal appeal of VIVO IPL by reaching out to their viewers in their own language.

The 11th edition of VIVO IPL starts on Saturday, April 07, 2018 with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on Chennai Super Kings.

Savdhaan India launches it’s new season of Savdhaan India

MUMBAI: Life OK’s flagship series Savdhaan India has received tremendous love and respect from the viewers in the last 4 years. In this journey, it has not only alerted citizens against crime and but has also given them the strength and motivation to face crime. In addition to showcasing real life incidents, the show has also advanced to acknowledging brave hearts who chose to fight against crime through Samman Awards.

Savdhaan India is all set to start its new season with a hard-hitting avatar. The new season’s philosophy – ‘darrkarnahi, dattkar’ urges the citizens to break their prevailing attitude of letting things be, of letting the powerful get away with crime, of not speaking up out of fear and face crime head on. As a brand that has always believed in walking the talk, Savdhaan India took the campaign on ground across the country and interacted with the citizens of Delhi, Lucknow and Ahmedabad

The campaign began at the capital city Delhi where the ‘darrkarnahi, dattkar’ anthem along with the pledge movement was unveiled for the very first time. In the next leg of the campaign, the anchors visited notorious crime locations and interacted with the citizens there. SarkhejGandhinagar Highway in Ahmedabad and PatrakarpuramChauraha in Lucknow were visited as hit and run cases and eve-teasing incidents are very prevalent in these locations respectively.

Savdhaan India has always acknowledged the youth to be change agents. Hence, following the visit to the crime locations, the team of Savdhaan India visited schools and colleges. The hosts invited the students to become partners in this attitudinal revolution. The students using a palm scanner digitally pledged their support. The hosts discussed youth related issues like eve teasing, ragging, bullying and cybercrime. At HK College in Ahmedabad many students shared harrowing experiences of being bullied and eve-teased and how they fought it. While in CMS, Gomtinagar – the students and the hosts had a very relevant discussion on how to protect oneself on social media.

A picture lasts forever and with that thought – the team of Savdhaan India created a huge pledge wall in these 3 cities. All those who were a part of this initiative clicked a picture of themselves against the wall to remind themselves of the pledge they took. More than 1000 pictures were collected. Lastly, the hosts felicitated the bravehearts who narrated their own stories of facing crime fearlessly thereby taking the of initiative ‘darrkarnahi, dattkar’ to life.
