This Navratri, Ishara brings a story invoking hope and faith – Mata ki Mahima

Mumbai: IN10 Media Network’s general entertainment channel, Ishara, has announced the launch of its latest offering, ‘Mata ki Mahima’. This captivating show aims to rekindle purity in thoughts and actions, encouraging viewers to choose the path of righteousness and spirituality on the auspicious day of Gudi Padwa and the first day of Navratri.

In a world often overshadowed by revenge and violence, ‘Mata ki Mahima’ stands out by presenting the divine power of Maa Sheranwali, who not only saves her devotees but also transforms her enemies. Through compelling storytelling, the show reinforces the importance of bhakti (devotion) in overcoming life’s challenges and finding inner peace.

Set against the backdrop of Haridwar, Uttarakhand, ‘Mata ki Mahima’ draws inspiration from the timeless tale of Bhakt Prahlad and his father Hiranyakashyap. The show follows the journey of Mahima, portrayed by the talented child actor Pari Sharma, who finds herself pitted against her step-grandmother, Indrayni, played by the versatile Monalisa. As Mahima navigates through adversities and familial conflicts, she finds solace and guidance in Maa Sheranwali, portrayed by the esteemed television actress Reema Vohra.

Monalisa, stepping into her first antagonist role on a daily soap, said, “I consider it a stroke of luck to join the cast of ‘Mata Ki Mahima’. While the show predominantly revolves around the devout bhakti of young Mahima towards Maa Sherawali, my character serves as the antagonist, challenging the belief in the goddess. Despite portraying a negative role, I am gratified that my character’s scepticism enhances the devotion to Mata Rani, especially through the portrayal of Mahima. Being part of a show that rekindles faith in Mata Raani within our viewers is truly fulfilling.”

“We believe that ‘bhakti mein hai shakti’, and through ‘Mata ki Mahima’, we aim to showcase the transformative power of faith and spirituality,” said Jay and Kinnari Mehta of Jay Production. “Our narrative is not just about entertainment; it’s about inspiring self-realization and instilling hope in the hearts of our viewers.”

‘Mata ki Mahima’ promises to be a captivating journey filled with drama, emotion, and spiritual enlightenment. Join us as we embark on this divine quest to rediscover the essence of bhakti and celebrate the triumph of good over evil.

IN10 Media Network celebrates the eighth anniversary

Mumbai: On 19 November 2014, an EPIC idea was born: a television channel that recast the yardsticks of the entertainment industry, and the barometers for content underwent a paradigm shift.

The vision that gave birth to the idea and continues to fuel its drive is to build premium, disruptive, content-driven businesses that span geographies and demographics while retaining an Indian ethos at their core.

In the eight years since, IN10 Media Network has strategically invested across the relevant business verticals, with interests spanning broadcast and digital entertainment, technology, digital and production, and gaming, embracing the rapidly transforming, technology-enabled, increasingly digital macro-environment.

Speaking on the channel’s anniversary, IN10 Media Network managing director Aditya Pittie said, “We live in very exciting times, where opportunities abound and provide for immense flexibility and variety in choices, allowing for decision-making that can be custom tailored for the scale and size the business model demands. That also brings with it the challenge of great ambiguity and volatility, and the accompanying risks, in an extremely connected and co-dependent marketplace, as has been evident through the pandemic times. To stay rooted in the present while making giant strides into the future, taking along with us all our stakeholders, remains the cornerstone of this extremely fulfilling journey.”

As the network nurtures and expands its broadcast offerings—Ishara (general entertainment channel); EPIC (infotainment channel); ShowBox (Hindi music channel); Gubbare & Filamchi Bhojpuri, (kids and regional movie genres)—it is strategically scaling its digital platforms, EPIC ON and DocuBay.

Simultaneously, Juggernaut Productions is consistently creating landmarks in the fast-growing digital OTT landscape, as the network strengthens its content offerings with the incubation of a vertical producing movies for theatrical and digital release. Its first venture in sports-tech and live streaming is to explore new territory and rapidly scale new heights.

In a world growing more hungry each day for entertainment and having the means to satiate this hunger, IN10 Media Network has laid firm foundations as it galvanises its resources to forge ever forward, pioneering and persevering.

  • Today, audiences are slot loyal and not TV loyal: JD Majethia

Today, audiences are slot loyal and not TV loyal: JD Majethia

MUMBAI: Jamnadas Majethia, better known as JD, started his career as a theatre artist and has been active in the Gujarati theatre scene for over two decades. The actor/producer teamed up with his close friend Aatish Kapadia and launched the joint venture Hats Off Productions in year 2001-2002. Their first co-production Khichdi was followed by Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai and a host of hit comedy shows on television. Now, the studio is back with a new avatar of the beloved legacy show Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi, Naye Kissey, which is airing on Sony Sab.

Comedy and family values have always been at the core of the works they’ve created, shared Majethia. Feel good shows are the strength of Hats Off Productions, as he believes this kind of content can be watched together as a family.

Said he: “We have always received a great amount of respect, adulation and love from audiences. Hats Off Productions is a team of passionate people who believe in giving progressive content to their audiences. Relationships, warmth, creating memories and emotions are the elements that work well in India and so we always try to work around these factors. Our shows Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi are two decades old but they still resonate today and are loved by audiences. Audiences have kept this show alive that is what we strive for.”

Apart from the iconic and memorable Khichdi and Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, he has experimented with formats outside his forte of comedy, such as family dramas (Baa Bahu Aur Baby, Jasuben Jayantilaal Joshi Ki Joint Family, Sukh By Chance, Behenein), romance (Chintu Chinki Aur Ek Badi Si Love Story, Ek Doosre Se Karte Hain Pyaar Hum) and supernatural/fantasy (Bakula Bua Ka Bhoot, Badi Dooooor Se Aaye Hai).

Explaining how majority of his shows based on family values have worked well among the different genres that he has produced to date, Majethia said, “Viewers only have half an hour to enjoy our show, in that specific time period we need to catch their attention and  provide them wholesome entertainment. In today’s time content is the king, it is important to come up with fresh ideas which are also engaging.”

Majethia believes that today audiences have a myriad of options, from TV loyalty the focus has been shifted to slot loyalty. He opined that earlier one channel used to dominate all the slots. But now things are changing, audiences are programme loyal. More than the brand, the content is working, which works in the favour of production houses. Be it comedy, horror, crime, thriller, daily soaps, historical or mythology, each of these genres works well among viewers, he explained.

    On Wagle Ki Duniya reboot

The opportunity to bring back popular sitcom Wagle Ki Duniya, which aired on DD National from 1988 to 1990, landed before him almost like an act of providence, quipped Majethia.

“We were working on a show with middle class and higher middle class backdrop. It was almost finalised when Sony Sab business head Neeraj Vyas called Majethia to re-adapt Wagle Ki Duniya. Interestingly, on the same night he received a call from RK Lakshman’s daughter in law Usha Lakshman. Considering this as the universe’s calling, I went ahead with the story. Earlier the show had only 19 episodes and Usha Lakshman wanted to utilise those episodes. But it has very little scope when it came to creation. That is when the makers decided to create a programme all together with a new format,” he detailed.

Along with his co-partner Kapadia, he created a bank of pilot episodes which got an instant thumbs-up from the Sony Sab team. However, the biggest challenge is to create fresh episodes every single day. Unlike other daily soaps, there is no scope for stretching the content or utilising previous shots and the existing library.

Explaining on how this version is going to be different, Majethia remarked, “In those days what RK Lakshman created was the story of a common man, we have taken that same story a notch higher. The issues are more pertinent to today’s time. He is addressing the real challenge of feeding his family, raising kids, taking care of parents in the pandemic. He wants his family to have a happy lifestyle, but his income is not sufficient and he is also not a risk taker. So, the story is about how he manages everything simultaneously. Our motto is to make people understand that ultimately life is all about being happy and creating new memories.”

With a change in generation, the protagonist in the new series will face a newer set of dilemmas and challenges. The show will also showcase the progression in the lives of the middle-class in the country. While Aanjjan Srivastav and Bharti Achrekar will reprise their roles of Srinivas and Radhika Wagle, Sumeet Raghvan and Pariva Pranati will play the new lead couple along with child artist Sheehan Kapahi and Chinmayi Salvi.

Earlier, Wagle Ki Duniya was filmed in a small house but now, in step with contemporary norms, the team has shot the show in a two-bedroom flat. The entire set is in Mumbai’s Mira Road where they have created a house, society garden and an office. They have also created multi-utility rooms with all the technical assistance to make the work much more efficient. Behind Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi, Naye Kissey there is a strong team of ten writers including Majethia and Kapadia and headed by Jayesh Patil. The show is directed by Sameer Kulkarni.

Hats Off Production is also working on its latest drama Janani for In10 Media’s new Hindi GEC Ishara. Supriya Pilgaonkar is essaying the lead role. In the near future, Majethia said he wishes to work on non-fiction shows.

  • Monetising Ishara is the primary focus in next few quarters: Aditya Pittie

Monetising Ishara is the primary focus in next few quarters: Aditya Pittie

MUMBAI: In September 2016, Anand Mahindra-owned television channel Epic roped in Pittie Group CEO Aditya Pittie as its managing director. Since then, the Anand Mahindra-and Pittie-promoted IN10 Media has expanded – from television (Epic), to OTT platforms (Epic On and Docubay), and even a production house (Juggernaut) in its kitty.

After establishing its linear broadcast channels in their respective genres, Epic, Filamchi, Gubbare and ShowBox, the In10 Media Network is all set to foray into the Hindi GEC market with Ishara. Five original shows debuting as part of the channel’s inaugural line-up include mythological masterpiece Paapnaashini Ganga; crime-thriller Faraar Kab Tak; and three fiction shows Agni-Vayu, Humkadam, and Janani. Besides that, it was recently announced that Juggernaut Productions and Mango People Media will also produce a show based on the life of Maharani Gayatri Devi, to air on Ishara.

Pittie finds his passion in creating value and wealth and building scale. “That’s why I am interested in multiple businesses, not just any particular business. I am passionate about business, and building businesses that have scale, that gives employment to many people. That is what drives me,” says Pittie in a conversation with indiantelevision.com’s Shikha Singh, during which he spoke at length about new kid on the GEC block – Ishara, its programming line-up, marketing strategies and much more.

    Edited excerpts:

On launching Ishara amid the pandemic.

As a media broadcast channel, we have the ambition to have another market share and after adding Showbox in our portfolio and launching Filamchi, it was always in our plan to venture into the Hindi GEC genre, hence we launched Ishara. The planning was in place before the pandemic took place. Now as the market is bouncing back, and the GDP is coming back on track, we feel the demand for content is comparatively more and most importantly, we felt that the timing is right to offer something which is slightly differentiated and fresh to the audiences.

    On the channel’s standout USP.

We are positioning the channel as a celebration of life, while the stories are about real India, we are trying to bring the element of freshness and progressiveness. The idea is to provide something that is deeply rooted in values but also progressive in nature. Our idea is already resonating with people on social media and other consumer engagement sites. I think our USP is communicated fairly well, and that is how we are going to differentiate from other competition existing in this space.

On the initial sampling of the channel.

The way we have chosen our line-up is unique. Sampling is a factor of availability, very rarely do you see a channel in the pay and HSM (Hindi speaking market), so availability plays a very important role. We tried to create a lot of awareness including using an extensive marketing plan. Then obviously, how interested audiences are after seeing the trailers and the promos that you communicated, and what kind of conversion you are trying to get out of sampling. The fact that we have chosen Paapnaashini Ganga as our mythological show and Janani is a very powerful concept which everybody can relate to. We feel that with the combination of all of these factors there definitely will be a strong sampling for our channel. We have a mix of fiction and non-fiction shows which are in the pipeline.

On conducting research and deriving consumer insight pre-launch.

We have engaged with certain focus groups and agencies; we collected some data and qualitative analyses to understand consumer preferences. The fact that we are launching a channel with a 7-9 pm programming slot and again 9-11 pm, it’s very rare that a channel repeats its prime-time programming in the same primetime slot. Our channel is our own competition. The decision has been taken after the deep consumer research including both quantitative and qualitative.

    On its target audience.

The genre is targeting both urban and rural audiences. However, as our country is growing so fast, consumers are evolving it would be difficult to find where our audiences live, but we have a slightly more urban slew. Similar to any other GEC, our major target audiences are females.

    On advertisers’ response.

The responses are quite encouraging, the feedback is very strong. They feel our content is very fresh and there is potential to get market share. They are willing to partner with us at the early stages.

    On content and distribution strategy.

At present, we have launched all our channels as part of the  Epic value pack which is a Rs 2 bouquet. From 1 April onwards we are increasing our price to Rs 7, where you will get all the five channels in the same amount.

On their media mix and how much digital will occupy.

For Ishara, we have allocated maximum resources to television slots. That is the fundamental strategy, we feel the convergence is higher from television to another TV channel. We have also taken lots of EPG spots with cable and DTH players. Apart from that, we have partnered with all radio networks across India. We are also leveraging digital, print and OOH mediums.

On linear feed availability on the network’s OTT platform Epic On.

We are still considering when to make Ishara available on our OTT platform, the linear feed won’t be coming soon to Epic On. We’re still deciding on when to make livestreaming available, and catch-up will be available subsequently. Currently, maximum sampling of our channel is going to happen on broadcast before we start moving some of the audiences to digital. But eventually, it is going to be the combination of both linear TV and OTT. We are living in a world where both are complimentary so definitely the content will be available on Epic On at some point in time.

    On getting into sports broadcasting.

We are very clear about our strategies, and we are definitely not getting into sports broadcast. It is not part of our agenda.

On the secret ingredient that has kept the In10 brand going for years.

I think being a challenger brand or a product is something that as an entrepreneur I enjoy building. The whole mentality of starting up when the odds are against you is what encourages and drives the organisation to grow our business. I have an inherent love for creating content, whether it is creating compelling infotainment which is India centric or loved by so many people, we are the only music channel which has 40 per cent non-Bollywood music. The love for offering and creating content is actually the main driver for our ambition. This is the only reason we call ourselves content engines.

On content consumption trends, and what themes will rule 2021.

With India’s disposable income rising and internet connectivity improving, there will be more consumption of premium content. People’s ability to pay for premium content will increase, hence we are witnessing a growth in OTT content consumption. However, I think television content will still continue to be a priority for Indian viewers. Both television and OTT will be complimentary to each other, while content will become the main driving force in consumption. People will switch between watching content on disconnected services like mobile phones or broadcast set-top boxes. In terms of genre, feel-good, spiritual content, and comedy content will resonate more with viewers. Apart from that, horrors and supernatural shows will also be there.

    On his vision for 2021.

We have created a good product with Ishara, we hope viewers will appreciate it. Obviously, monetising Ishara will be our focus for the next few quarters. In the coming six to eight months, we will make sure our entire bouquet of channels continues to grow.
