PUMA India launches campaign with Delhi Capitals squad

Mumbai: Amidst the thrilling action of the ongoing country’s action-packed cricket league, sports brand PUMA India has released an entertaining campaign with partner Delhi Capitals’ star players – Rishabh Pant, Ishant Sharma and Yash Dhull – to engage with the team’s strong fanbase.

PUMA’s campaign film for Delhi Capitals – called Delhi, Save the fight for the game – encourages fans to bring their aggressive spirit to the game with #DelhiSaveTheFight. Delhi’s characteristic aggression is often viewed critically but as a brand, PUMA believes that the capital’s shared passion will positively uplift the game.

Commenting on the occasion, cricketer Yash Dhull said, “This cricket season is pure sports entertainment and PUMA has a unique ability to engage with fans. PUMA’s films made for Delhi Capitals this year do a hilarious take on the city’s innate nature to be headstrong. I am from Delhi and well-versed with our love for aggression. So, teaming up with Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma, and shooting for this film with routine Delhi scenarios was lot of fun and laughter. Having said that, the film’s message is strong, and saving and bringing this aggression to the game is the right spirit.”

Commenting on the campaign, PUMA India head of marketing Shreya Sachdev said, “To celebrate our partnership with Delhi Capitals, we wanted to pay homage to the never-back-down spirit of the city. We are confident that this campaign will strike a chord with the team’s fanbase, as we continue to strengthen our commitment towards spreading the excitement of cricket culture in the country.”

PUMA is the official kit partner of Delhi Capitals and has signed a multi-year deal with the team’s parent companies JSW and GMR, furthering its footprint in the cricketing landscape. As a kit partner, PUMA’s logo is present on the leading arm of the jersey of both the men’s and women’s teams of Delhi Capitals. Inspired by the pulse of the country’s capital, the jersey incorporates the route map of the Delhi Metro Rail – the iconic representation of the city’s enterprising spirit. The players’ kit comprises athleisure, training wear, accessories and travel gear.

PUMA’s association with Royal Challengers Bengaluru has proven to be a big success in the league.

PUMA has been actively contributing to the rise of sports culture in the country by associating with 250-plus athletes across cricket, boxing, football, and para sports. The brand boasts a star-studded lineup of brand ambassadors featuring batting icon Virat Kohli, champion sprinter Usain Bolt, football stars Neymar Jr and Sunil Chhetri, celebrated boxer MC Mary Kom, and cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur and Mohammed Shami.

  • Bowlers can spell doom for batters in Australia, says Ishant Sharma

Bowlers can spell doom for batters in Australia, says Ishant Sharma

Veteran bowler Ishant Sharma talks about India’s chances of winning and how the current player line-up is perfect. In the interview, Sharma expressed his thoughts about the former captain’s batting performance being crucial for the win and believes Kohli will be there for his team. He also discussed other talents on Rohit Sharma’s team and how they have a great chance of winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 after the prolonged wait since 2007.

While the Indian fast bowler is excited about the tournament, he thinks it will be a great one as multiple teams have fantastic players. For Sharma, it’s more exciting, especially after the first match victory for India.

Explaining the key points to bring home the silver cup, Sharma thinks the bowlers will be ‘crucial’ in the tournament. The chances of bounce are pretty high. Bowlers will have a lot of opportunities since Australian grounds are big. He also states that scoring runs are comparatively easy in T20 tournaments these days. He says bowlers are the ones ‘who can make the difference.’

Explaining India’s odds against winning without star bowler Jasprit Bumrah, Sharma said, “There is plenty of depth in India’s fast bowling and somebody is going to have to step up and win the World Cup for their team.”

When he was asked whether the Indian team has the perfect balance of experienced and youth players, Sharma was affirmative. He expressed how the team has a good ‘experienced core’ with players like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik, and KL Rahul. He also said the Indian team has multiple players accustomed to winning T20 games.

He also stated that the Indian team is in good shape and they have prepared well. Sharma said, “The Indian team has played a lot of T20 cricket in the build-up and I think they’ve rotated the team well enough so that every player is mentally fresh. That’s so important.”

Praising India’s star player Kohli, Sharma showcased full support and faith for the former skipper. Sharma said, “I have played so much cricket with him since childhood and I know that he will perform exactly how the team needs him to perform. If they require quick innings from him, he will deliver. If they need somebody to bat through the innings, he can do that, too,” while explaining how Kohli is all about his team.

During the interview, Ishant Sharma also talked about other players at length, like how Rishabh Pant has the power to win a game ‘single-handedly.’ He also explained how Suryakumar Yadav is a ‘difficult player to bowl to.’

While concluding, the interviewer asked Sharma to name challenging teams for the upcoming T20 World Cup, and he pointed to England and Australia. With star players like Jos Buttler and David Warner on these teams, Sharma thinks ‘they can put bowlers under pressure from any situation and are a big part of why he thinks their teams can challenge India for the title.

  • RuPay kicks-off IPL innings with new campaign featuring Ishant Sharma

RuPay kicks-off IPL innings with new campaign featuring Ishant Sharma

Mumbai: National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has floated its first Indian Premier League (IPL) campaign ‘RuPay. Be On-The-Go.’ Featuring Indian fast-bowler Ishant Sharma, the campaign highlights the many benefits of RuPay On-The-Go on cards and other convenient form factors such as smartwatches, keychains, mobile stickers, and wristbands.

As part of the high decibel campaign, five advertisement films are released on television, OTT, digital, and social media platforms. The brand has also roped in popular cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle and former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag to endorse the campaign on Twitter.

The film revolves around the banter between three characters- an umpire struggling with payments, a batsman who knows how incredible RuPay is, and who takes it upon himself to educate our umpire on it, and fierce pacer Ishant Sharma. The umpire gets so distracted by the amazing and innovative RuPay offerings that the batsman is sharing with him, he doesn’t even notice that Ishant Sharma has bowled, rapped the opener on the pads, and is now screaming ‘Howzzaaaatt!,’ waiting for an ‘Out’ from him. What follows is a ‘match freeze’ where the entire match pauses, as we see Ishant now doing his best to catch the Umpire’s attention by shouting ‘Howzzatt’ in hilarious ways. With RuPay on Umpire’s mind and his conversation with the non-striker still on, he registers Ishant’s appeal and starts to raise his finger finally shouting ‘Out-standing’ for RuPay.

Conceptualised by DDB Mudra, the new campaign has beautifully and humorously captured Ishant’s dynamic action of ‘Howzat’ to weave together the films. The campaign also features four short films which reinforce the concept in various situations involving payments for international use, for the convenience of paying using RuPay On-The-Go enabled watch(at a grocery store) and keychain (at a drive-thru), and for bus/metro travel. The films not only create awareness about RuPay On-The-Go but also show how payments can be quick, safe, easy, and hassle-free for customers.

The films underscore the availability and accessibility of the RuPay cards. The advertisements highlight that every bank in India is issuing RuPay Debit cards and a large number of banks and prepaid/credit card players are also issuing RuPay prepaid and credit cards.

Furthermore, the films also create awareness amongst customers to ensure activating their cards for contactless, e-commerce, and international transactions per the regulatory requirements in India.

  • England and India seek improvement in Test Rankings

England and India seek improvement in Test Rankings

MUMBAI: The five-Test series between England and India gets underway in Nottingham on Wednesday 9 July, with both sides aiming to improve their rankings in the Reliance ICC Test Team Rankings Table.

As things stand at present, India occupies fourth position with 102 ratings points, while England is one spot behind with 100 ratings points. Depending upon the outcome of the Test series, both teams can go as high as number three or drop to as low as number seven.

For India, the equation is straightforward: a series win will be sufficient to help it leapfrog Pakistan into third position.

However, a vault up the rankings is a bit trickier for England, which needs to win the series by a difference of no less than two Tests to take on third place. Victory by just one Test will help it swap places with India.

Meanwhile, both teams can potentially drop to number seven. If India wins all five Tests, then Alastair Cook’s side will plummet to seventh position, while a 4-1 series result will see England slip to sixth. Conversely, if England wins the series by 4-0 or better, then India will drop to seventh spot.

To find out exactly how the forthcoming series will affect the Rankings Table, please click here. The ODI and T20I Rankings tables, unlike the Test Rankings Table, are updated after every match.

Movement is also expected on the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Batsmen.

India’s Cheteshwar Pujara, static in seventh place, will have the opportunity to break into the top five, while Virat Kohli, who currently occupies tenth position, will have the chance to consolidate his place in the top 10.

Pujara trails fifth-ranked Shivnarine Chanderpaul by 35 ratings points, while Kohli needs 16 ratings points to both move ahead of Ross Taylor of New Zealand and also break the 800-point barrier.

Ian Bell, in 18th place, is the only batsman from England to find a place amongst the top 20.

Outside the top 20, batsmen likely to be seen in action from both the sides are Alistair Cook (21st), Joe Root (26th), MS Dhoni (29th), Matt Prior (32nd), Rohit Sharma (33rd), Murali Vijay (42nd), Ajinikya Rahane (45th) and Shikhar Dhawan (50th).

Gary Ballance and Sam Robson, who did well for England against Sri Lanka, are in 83rd and 94th places, respectively.

India’s Ravichandran Ashwin in seventh position is the highest-ranked bowler from either side in the Reliance ICC Player Rankings for Test Bowlers. James Anderson (12th) and Stuart Broad (14th) are the other bowlers to feature inside the top 20.

Other bowlers to watch out for are Ishant Sharma (23rd), Ravindra Jadeja (26th), Mohammed Shami (33rd), Ben Stokes (46th), Liam Plunkett (50th), Bhuvneshwar Kumar (73rd) and Chris Woakes (118th).

In the All-rounders’ table, Ashwin (second) and Stuart Broad (fifth) feature in the top five.

    Series schedule:

    9-13 July – 1st Test, Nottingham

    17-21 July – 2nd Test, Lord’s

    27-31 July – 3rd Test, Southampton

    7-11 August – 4th Test, Manchester

    15-19 August – 5th Test, The Oval
