    Nick launches its first global mobile app

    MUMBAI: Kids broadcaster Nickelodeon has launched its first worldwide mobile app Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rooftop Run in more than 150 countries and eight languages.

    Available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices, the app features 3D characters and environments based on the CG-animated series.

    This is a runner ninja combat game, where players run, jump and fight their way across the rooftops of New York in an attempt to save the city from the invading Kraang and ultimate destruction.

    The app will be translated into eight languages, English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish (Latin America) and Spanish (Spain).

    MUMBAI: Disney Junior is boosting its presence on the digital front in the US. The Disney Junior Appisodes app for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch has been announced following the ‘Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally Appisode‘.

    Now the broadcaster has said that the Disney Junior Appisodes app is the first TV appisode app for kids that combine viewing and interaction with the TV characters and stories they love. It can be found now in the App Store at: appstore.com/disneyjuniorappisodes.

    Developed by Disney/ABC Television Group‘s Digital Media team, the new app offers true interactive viewing, allowing fans 2-7 to touch, tap, swipe, tilt, shake and talk their way through various fun-filled activities embedded into episodes of some of their favorite Disney Junior shows.

    The all-new “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse – Mickey and Donald Have a Farm Appisode” and the “Jake and the Never Land Pirates Appisode,” which features “Hide the Hideout” and “Captain Hook‘s Hooks,” are available for $4.99. A free download of the original “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally Appisode” is included. In the coming months, episodes of shows ‘Doc Mc Stuffins,‘‘Sofia the First‘and more ‘Jake and the Never Land Pirates‘will also be available for download as appisodes.

Over 70 per cent of households with kids have app-enabled devices in their homes. Touching, tapping and swiping are second nature to them.

    CBS launches streaming app for iPad, iPhone

    MUMBAI: US broadcaster CBS has announced the launch of the new CBS App for iPhone and iPad users, offering full-episode streaming of CBS programming from primetime, daytime and late night.

    The new app further extends the reach of the shows‘ audience, providing more flexibility and opportunity for catch-up viewing and opens yet another monetisation window for the company‘s industry-leading content.
     
    The CBS App is available for immediate download from the App Store, and offers original and second-screen features for CBS‘ shows such as ‘NCIS‘, ‘The Good Wife‘, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation‘, ‘How I Met Your Mother‘ and ‘The Young And The Restless‘.

    Daytime and late night programming will be available within 24 hours after initial airing, while most primetime programmes will be available on the eighth day after broadcast.CBS also announced it would introduce similar full-episode streaming apps for all major mobile and tablet platforms later this year, including Android and Windows 8.

    CBS president, CEO Leslie Moonves, said “We have been methodically and strategically finding new ways to satiate the appetite for our content on new platforms, while tapping into the tremendous revenue provided by doing so. Our announcement today achieves both of these objectives, while protecting our very healthy current ecosystem.     The new CBS App will integrate the existing CBS Connect App experience by the start of the Fall TV season. At that time, the CBS App will offer integrated social feeds; live events that allow fans to engage directly with talent; and second-screen experiences synched to the broadcast with additional content for select shows like ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation‘, ‘Criminal Minds‘ and ‘Hawaii Five-O‘.

    Buick is the official launch partner for the new CBS App, bringing users CBS programming with reduced commercial interruption for the first several weeks after launch.

    MUMBAI: Tvinci, the Israeli pay-OTT platform provider, has been selected by MediaCorp, Singapore‘s leading media company, to power its new cross-device lifestyle service, Toggle.

    The deployment is Tvinci‘s first in the Asia-Pacific market as it looks towards expansion in the region.

    Toggle will be available on PC, iPhone, iPad and connected TV, available to consumers as a subscription service or as a pay per view service, offering linear and video on-demand (VOD) content and access to a library of over 1000 hours of programming.

    "Consumers are increasingly using connected devices as both companion devices and second screens, so we made a strategic decision to make Toggle not only a direct way for them to watch MediaCorp content anytime, anywhere, but also a gateway to a new TV experience," said MediaCorp Convergent Media Division MD Philip Koh.

    Toggle provides rights protected content across iOS, Android and Windows devices using Tvinci‘s multi-DRM capabilities: supporting Microsoft PlayReady and Google‘s Widevine DRM simultaneously. Tvinci also allows Toggle users to rate, share and interact around TV shows, with Twitter and Facebook integrated from the backend level to the interface.

    "We are excited to have launched Toggle with MediaCorp as our first project in the pan-Asian region, and are looking forward to deploying our platform in other territories in 2013," Tvinci CEO Ofer Shayo.

    PBS launches preschool second screen app for WordWorld

    MUMBAI: WordWorld, the three-time Emmy award-winning educational television series broadcast on the US PBS Kids, is launching a second screen integration for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch with a new early learning app: Fun with WordFriends, rapidtvnews.com reports.

    The new WordWorld app features interactive games that help young children learn to recognise letters and form words to provide the fundamental building blocks for learning to read.

    Utilising the same foundations established by the Department of Education-funded study which demonstrated that the WordWorld television programme improves children‘s literacy skills, the WordWorld: Fun with WordFriends app is the first in a series of interactive WordWorld learning tools for preschoolers.
    The app allows preschoolers to build words that come to life as the objects they represent.

    MUMBAI: Online retail major Amazon.com has introduced the Amazon Instant Video App, enabling customers to stream or download Amazon Instant Video movies and TV episodes from their video library directly on their iPhone or iPod touch.

    The app also makes more than 30,000 titles from Prime Instant Video available to Prime members such as TV shows like ‘American Horror Story‘, ‘Downton Abbey‘ and ‘Fringe‘, as well as movies such as ‘Hugo‘, ‘Thor‘ and ‘Goodfellas‘, to stream instantly on their iPhone or iPod touch at no additional cost.

    Amazon announced the Amazon Instant Video app for iPad earlier this year. With this launch, Amazon Instant Video is now available across iOS mobile devices.

    Amazon.com VP for video Anthony Bay said, "Our customers tell us they want the convenience of being able to watch all of their movies and TV episodes, wherever they are.     To watch movies or TV episodes from Amazon Instant Video on iPhone and iPod touch, customers can simply search for the content they‘ve already rented or purchased from Amazon Instant Video-including the latest hit movies like The Dark Knight Rises, Brave and The Amazing Spiderman and the latest episodes from TV series like The Walking Dead, Sons of Anarchy and The Vampire Diaries.

    MUMBAI: Now TV, the internet TV service powered by UK pay TV service provider Sky, is now available on Roku streaming players.

    Now TV offers instant access to Sky Movies with no contract, set-up costs or installation. New customers can take advantage of a free 30 day trial of the service, plus also benefit from a three-month introductory offer of ?8.99 a month.

    Roku users will be able to find Now TV within the Roku Channel Store and once registered for Now TV online will be able to access the movies they choose instantly. Once they have connected their Roku box to their TV and home WiFi network, Now TV customers will be able to watch their favourite movies on their main TV, as well as continue to watch them out through their smartphone, tablet or laptop.

    Now TV is already available on PC, Mac, iPhone, iPad, selected Android smartphones, and other connected devices.
    Now TV customers can enjoy blockbuster releases around six months after they have ended their run in cinemas. Each month, customers can enjoy access to up to 20 new premieres – at least 12 months before they become available on Netflix or LoveFilm Instant. Sky Movies is also offering exclusive access to the most successful movie franchise ever, with customers able to enjoy all the eight Harry Potter films on-demand throughout the Christmas holidays. Other top titles which customers can enjoy in the next few weeks include ‘In Time’, ‘Young Adult’, ‘Jack and Jill’ and ‘Contagion’.

    More Sky content will also be added to Now TV, with Sky Sports due to be introduced in the next few months. This will enable Now TV customers to enjoy live action from the Barclays Premier League, Uefa Champions League, England Test cricket, Heineken Cup rugby, ATP tennis, F1, Masters Golf and more. The introduction of Sky Sports will be followed on Now TV by must-see shows from Sky 1, Sky Atlantic, Sky Arts and Sky Living, including home-grown drama, original comedy and US shows.

    Roku streaming players are known for their low prices, ease of use and quality selection of entertainment. Now TV is available on compatible Roku LT and Roku 2 XS boxes. Both are available in the UK for suggested retail prices of ?49.99 and ?99.99 respectively.

    Both models feature more than 300 channels of streaming entertainment including on-demand films and programmes; live and on-demand sports from MLB.TV and Ultimate Fighting Championship organisation; music from Rdio; photos and videos from Facebook and Flickr; news and entertainment on WSJ Live from the Wall Street Journal; FoxNews.com and others from around the world – as well as casual games like Angry Birds.

    StarHub in multi-platform deal with ESS

    MUMBAI: Singapore telecom operator StarHub has signed a multi-platform deal with ESPN Star Sports (ESS) to carry its portfolio of multi-media assets including television, broadband, and mobile services on a non-exclusive basis.

    StarHub is a full-fledged telecommunications company providing a range of services over mobile, internet and fixed platforms in Singapore.

    The deal comprises six ESPN Star Sports channels, which brings the number of dedicated sports channels on StarHub TV to 22; the broadband video player ESPN Player; and the live streaming mobile service, Mobile ESPN.

    The channels and ESPN Player will be launched on StarHub TV on 14 December while Mobile ESPN will be introduced on StarHub’s Mobile platform later in December.

    Sports fans can look forward to a comprehensive line-up of sports coverage on ESPN, Star Sports, the high-definition 24-hour sports channel ESPN HD, the 24-7 sports news channel ESPNews and premium cricket channels in Star Cricket and Star Cricket HD.

    Customers will also be able to access ESPN Player via StarHub’s Internet TV service, TV Anywhere. Mobile ESPN apps for iPad, iPhone and Android devices will be launched soon, allowing Singapore sports fans Anywhere, Anytime access to their favourite sports.

    ESS features sports content that includes exciting football properties (the Spanish La Liga BBVA, Asian Football Confederation events); motor-racing (Formula One, SBK, MotoGP, Nascar, Dakar Rally); Grand Slam tennis (Wimbledon, Australian Open); events from the WTA Tour and ATP World and the Hopman Cup, the Golf Majors (The Masters, US Open and The Open Championship) as well as the PGA Grand Slam of Golf; popular American sports (Major League Baseball, NCAA College Football and Basketball), premier Asian sports (Asean Basketball League, OneAsia golf tournaments, HSBC Asian Five Nations); and top cricket properties (ICC events, Champions League Twenty20, international and domestic cricket from the BCCI, Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board).

    “We‘re very happy to be able to offer the full range of our programming to the widest possible audience in Singapore and to return back to StarHub after two-and-a-half years away with a new long term agreement,” said ESS MD Peter Hutton.

    ESPNEWS will be a complimentary channel available to all StarHub TV customers at no additional cost. With the addition of ESPN, Star Sports and ESPN HD to the Sports Group, the subscription to the Sports Group will be revised to $19.26 per month (with GST), effective from 15 January.

    The Sports Group subscription includes access to ESPN Player and other sports channels such as Racquet Channel, Football Channel, SuperSports, SuperSports Arena and Setanta Sports via TV Anywhere. Currently available on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, Mobile ESPN will be added to StarHub’s Gee! portal later this month. Star Cricket and Star Cricket HD will be available on the Cricket Group, which is unchanged at $32.10 per month (with GST).

    Seventynine’s analytics is available on Android and HTML5. It will help track and analyse consumer behaviour.

    According to the company, the Analytics service provides “in-depth” engagement analysis that gives marketers detailed information on consumer engagement with their application. It features a real-time dashboard, device analytics with device database in AsiaPac, AJAX-powered widget zed user interface, multiple file export options and supplements support with redundancy and backup of customer data.

    Seventynine will soon be announcing Analytics for iPhone, iPad, Blackberry and Windows Phone.
