    Deadline extended for Pmvision2art creative contest

    MUMBAI: Brush up your creativity. The government of Maharashtra’s department of cultural afairs, in collaboration with the Advertising Agencies Association of India, has extended the deadline for the Turn Vision into Art: Pmvision2art campaign to 15th October 2025.

    The nationwide initiative invites designers, agencies, and creators to craft iconic posters celebrating India’s transformative programmes over the past decade, from Make in India and Digital India to Swachh Bharat AbhiyanAtmanirbhar Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Skill India, and the International Day of Yoga.

    Seventy-five winning entries will be showcased at major art galleries, featured in a commemorative coffee-table book, and highlighted on national platforms to inspire millions. Poster submissions should be A2 size and entries can be made via www.pmvision2art.com.

    Minister of cultural affairs Ashish Shelar said, “Creativity has the power to shape how we remember history and imagine the future. Turn Vision into Art is our invitation to the nation’s creative minds to capture the essence of India’s progress through art.”

    With this extension, the campaign offers artists a golden opportunity to make their mark while celebrating a decade of India’s visionary initiatives.

    MUMBAI: To ‘Embrace a Healthier Lifestyle’, and promote the age old practice of Yoga, which is being endorsed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Siti Cable Network, an Essel Group Company celebrated the International Day of Yoga on 21 June by organising Yoga sessions concurrently at 70+ cities across India. The yoga sessions at various locations saw participation from more than 50,000 people, 9000 Business Partners and 1500 SITI Employees.

     

    Each event that happened at various locations was unique in its own way. To name a few; In Varanasi 500 people performed yoga amid the river Ganga on 25 House boats & 15 steamers, in Hisar, Siti in collaboration with Patanjali organized a yoga session for more than 3,000 people, likewise in Hyderabad & Bangalore the sessions took place under the guidance of renowned Yoga Gurus. In Delhi, Siti’s yoga initiative found huge support from the RSS with more than 800 of its Shakha members taking part in the Siti Yoga drive.

     

    Siti Cable executive director and CEO VD Wadhwa said, “The Yoga sessions, which took place on account of the International Day of Yoga were well received across India and I would like to extend my vote of thanks to the participants for making this initiative a grand success. I hope this drive endures and does not fade with time.

    DD to deploy 23 cameras, have LCD screens for live Yoga Day coverage

    NEW DELHI: With India aiming to get into the Guinness Book of World Records with the largest number of people performing Yoga at a single venue on the International Day of Yoga, Doordarshan will telecast the event live from Rajpath on the morning of 21 June.

     

    The Delhi Kendra of Doordarshan has deployed around 23 cameras by linking together three OB vans with microwave and OFC cables to cover this mega event.

     

    The live coverage of the event is touted to be totally different from that of the Republic Day Parade that Doordarshan brings annually to India and the world as this would encompass a panoramic view of the happenings at Rajpath.

     

    The logistics involved in the live telecast of upcoming International Day of Yoga are complex, as the area involved stretches for almost 1.5 kms from Rafi Marg to India Gate and will encompass the entire lawns to the north and south of Rajpath. 

     

    The 23 Doordarshan cameras being used for the coverage have been placed in strategic positions to cover all the 40,000 participants, and guests led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

     

    Doordarshan will use 13 raisers of five feet and ten feet height, which have been covered aesthetically with yoga motifs to place the cameras. Three Jimmy jip cameras, which can provide an aerial view from a height of 40 meters will also be used to add to the visual impact of the coverage. 

     

    One of the cameras has been additionally placed at the halfway point on a hydraulic lift, which can go up to about 50 feet high. This camera is at the junction between Rajpath and Janpath and can give the viewer an aerial perspective, covering participants at both ends of the venue. In addition, two cameras will be placed on top of India gate and will give panoramic shots of the central vista.  

     

    The coverage will also include the production of a small stage; instructional yoga by experts will be shown by using three cameras and by deploying a fourth OB Van. The output of this OB van will be provided by Doordarshan to the organisers for display on giant LCD screens, adding to the visual impact of the event.

     

    The event will start at 6.20 am with a nine-minute introductory film, welcoming all to the world of yoga and will go on up to 7.45 am or till the end.

     

    Producer Shanti Swaroop Bhakoo from Doordarshan Kendra Delhi, who is heading the team has extensive experience in live OBs like the Republic Day Parade and the Independence Day celebrations. 

     

    Over a hundred staff from the programme, engineering, scenic and administrative side are working round the clock to ensure a coverage befitting international standards. All technical operations are being supervised by S.N. Singh, DDG (Engineering). 

     

    Doordarshan additional director general Dr Mahesh Joshi will hold overall charge of this historic mega live coverage.

    Al Jazeera English named ‘Best Digital Team’; wins award for Yoga show

    NEW DELHI: After the announcement by the United Nations about marking of 21 June as the International Day of Yoga, this ancient practice appears to have picked up on the media as well.

     

    While the event on 21 June in Delhi will be telecast live, a series is being produced by an international channel into the history of Yoga.

     

    And now Al Jazeera English online has won an award for the Best Use of Photography for its Portrait of a Yogi, which was a photographic exploration of the power of yoga to unite people across cultural and physical divides. The photo gallery was commended for its innovative and dynamic approach to photography, which had dramatically added to a user’s experience when visiting the site.

     

    The award was one of three awards won by the channel at the prestigious Online Media Awards in London. The other awards were for Best Technical Innovation and Outstanding Digital Team.

     

    The Best Technical Innovation and Outstanding Digital Team of the Year went to the Palestine Remix Project, which was a network wide initiative that allowed users to access some of Al Jazeera’s best documentaries on Palestine. The project also had interactive maps and timelines, which allow users to truly understand the Palestinian issue and to contextualize it.

     

    Palestine Remix was awarded for demonstrating how technology was applied in a way that is creative and mould-breaking.

     

    The awards were judged by an independent panel from the British Journalism Review for the outstanding digital team award, Al Jazeera English online beat Vice News, Channel 4 News online, the Huffington Post, the Guardian and BBC News Online. The Online Media Awards, now in its fourth year, identify the cleverest, boldest and most original purveyors of news and views from around the world.

     

    Al Jazeera English head of online Imad Musa said the awards were the culmination of years of hard work from members of the entire newsroom. “This recognition by our peers is a testament to Al Jazeera’s efforts to find new ways of storytelling, and to explain complex issues to a global audience. Our team is small but incredibly passionate about what they create, and it’s great that our peers agree that they are the best digital team in the world. We will continue to push the boundaries of original journalism and innovative design,” Musa said.

     

    Senior producer and Palestine Remix Technical project lead Mohammed El-Haddad added, “Winning two awards for the best digital team and best technical innovation is a huge privilege for Al Jazeera. Palestine Remix weaves the latest HTML5 video technology with informative videos to truly involve our audience in the storytelling process. The interactive team alongside our journalists constantly tries and uses new ways to tell a story. Winning these awards has shown Al Jazeera is ahead of the pack for original journalism and using innovative tools.”
