ThoughtBuzz introduces a new analytics platform, Omnio G

MUMBAI: The analytics arm of To The New, ThoughtBuzz, has launched a new analytics platform – Omnio G.

The platform is an advanced, feature rich social media analytics medium that will help organisations listen, discover, measure and engage with today’s social and mobile first consumers. Unlike previous analytics platform by ThoughtBuzz, Omnio G will also support facebook and instagram along with all the existing social media platforms including LinkedIn, YouTube, blogs and forums, review sites like Amazon and CNET, QnA sites like yahoo Q&A and twitter.

Companies today use social media as a way to connect with their customers, partners and employees. Consequently social media monitoring or listening is now more important than ever. Gartner predicts that by 2018, 75 per cent of transactions would start on social media and end on the mobile. With the growing use of social media by customers of all age groups, extensive tools are required to collect, analyse and respond to customers.

The addition of facebook and instagram will enable existing clients to connect their facebook and instagram accounts and get an in-depth view of analytics for the pages they manage. Marketers would also be able to compare fan/follower activity on facebook and instagram with data outside their own assets. This will enable them to measure effectiveness of their campaigns across wide range of social platforms. Users would also be able to add multiple pages and view analytics for each of their pages on facebook and instagram accounts. The tool also has a premium layer, geared towards agencies that allow one to track multiple accounts enabling them to compare fan growth rates, engagement rates and demographics across all their pages.

ThoughtBuzz founder and CEO Anshul Jain commented, “Instagram allows brands to engage with users visually,” He further stated, “Addition of instagram and facebook along with the existing support for social platforms like Twitter will empower marketers with data to analyze which content connects best with their consumers and benchmark how are they performing against competitors”.

Omnio G builds on the previous ThoughtBuzz platform, introduced in 2013. It was built from the ground up on cutting-edge technologies such as Mongo DB and the Grails framework. The platform runs on Amazon Web Services platform to ensure maximum uptime and scalability. Existing customers will be moved to Omnio G gradually and new customers can start using Omnio G from today.

Walt Disney came in second place, largely due to a one-million-follower increase on Sina Weibo, a Chinese microblogging site.

National Geographic grabbed the bronze after its top-rated YouTube channel got 160 million views this past year.

Nike was viewed over 50 million times this year, while Google came next by earning over three million fans on Facebook taking its total following to more than 15 million.

  • Facebook says 48% of daily active users and 49% of ad revenue come from mobile

Facebook says 48% of daily active users and 49% of ad revenue come from mobile

NEW DELHI: Facebook has claimed that mobile ad revenues and usage will soon outperform desktop ad revenues and usage.

In its third quarterly earnings press meet, Facebook co-founder and CEO Zuckerberg said 48 per cent of its daily active users only use mobile devices while 49 per cent of its total ad revenues come from mobile ads.

Zuckerberg said Facebook ads raked in nearly $890 million in revenues during the third quarter through the company’s app install ads, mobile engagement ads, and so on.

The announcement means the company is heading in the right direction to meet its Q2 prediction that mobile ad revenues will surpass desktop ad revenues by year-end.

Facebook mobile MAUs gained 45 per cent more than last past year, from 604 million MAUs in Q2 2012 to 874 million MAUs in Q3 2013.

Facebook mobile MAUs include Facebook users who only use mobile devices and mobile users who occasionally use desktop devices to access Facebook services.

The 45 per cent statistic for mobile MAUs had more than twice as much growth as overall MAUs, up 18 per cent from $1.007 million in Q2 2013 to $1.189 million in Q3 2013.

Facebook remarked that its statistical figures exclude usage from Instagram-only users, but Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg delivered figures on the length of time consumers spend on Facebook’s mobile platform if combined with the photo-based social network.

Sandberg said Facebook and Instagram accounts for a combined 20 per cent of total time spent on mobile devices and 12.5 per cent of total time spent on desktop devices every month in the US.

Sandberg noted that Facebook accounts for more mobile minutes in the US than the combined minutes of YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Snapchat, Pandora, Yahoo, Tumblr, and AOL, even though comScore research results suggest it may have included Instagram data.

Facebook noted that MAUs only access the company’s services through mobile devices is at 254 million

With a total of 1.19 billion Facebook MAUs, the company grew 2.3 per cent of MAUs that only use mobile devices to access it, from 19 per cent in Q2 2013 to 21.3 per cent in Q3 2013.

According to the latest figures, Facebook mobile DAUs across the world are up by 38 million from Q2 2013, whereas MAUs are up by 55 million from the same period.

  • Instagram photo, video ads on their way

Instagram photo, video ads on their way

MUMBAI: Instagram will soon be inserting photo and video ads into the stream for its US members, the three-year-old Facebook-owned service announced Thursday. People will notice the “occasional ad” in the “next couple months,” Instagram said.

Seeing photos and videos from brands you don’t follow will be new, so we’ll start slow,” Instagram said in a blog post on the change. “We’ll focus on delivering a small number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community.”

The ads have yet to make their appearance in Instagram’s mobile apps, but the service is prepping people in advance of their release so as to stave off a potential backlash from the community.

The change, though expected, will be a radical one for the more than 150 million people who use Instagram’s iOS and Android applications on a monthly basis. Though a boon for parent-company Facebook’s bottom line, the ads bring with them the potential to alienate active users and could stir up a controversy like the one that bubbled up when Instagram temporarily changed its terms of service at the end of last year.

Instagram, for its part, is promising magazine-quality ads that “feel as natural to Instagram as the photos and videos many of you already enjoy from your favorite brands.” The service also said that users can, just as on Facebook, click to hide the ads they don’t like.

  • Google’s North America web traffic bigger than FB, Netflix and Instagram combined

Google’s North America web traffic bigger than FB, Netflix and Instagram combined

MUMBAI: Search engine giant Google on an average day reportedly handles 25 per cent of web traffic running through North American internet service providers (ISPs) which makes it bigger than Facebook, Netflix and Instagram combined.

Founder of Deepfield, the internet monitoring company, Craig Labovitz said that over the past year Google has become pervasive not just in Google data centers, but throughout the North American internet and 62 per cent of smartphones, tablets and other devices that tap into the internet from throughout North America connect to Google at least once a day. According to the report, Google’s lion share of the web traffic comes from YouTube and the growing traffic is the reason why Google is building data centers as fast as possible and has data centers on four continents.

Google has added thousands of servers called Google Global Cache servers to ISPs around the world which store the most popular content from Google’s network and then serve it directly from the ISP’s data center, rather than streaming it all the way from Google’s data center.

Labovitz said that Google and Netflix’s move into so many of the ISP network operation centers is likely to be followed by other internet giants like Apple and Facebook, the report added.

  • Splitsvilla 6 enagages its audience with new apps

Splitsvilla 6 enagages its audience with new apps

MUMBAI: Love just got difficult to get. With 16 youngsters fighting with each other to not only win a show, but to also (ostensibly) find love, Splitsvilla 6 has got all the right ingredients to make the perfect youth sizzler. The latest season promises to be ‘Hotter than Hell‘ with lots of scintillating moments and breathtaking participants which are definitely pleasing to the eyes. Not to miss, are the trademark back-stabbing, hating and fighting elements adding the required spice to the tale. Splitsvilla Seaason 6 promises to have higher doses of all these and much more to sustain and increase its cult following among the young and restless.

The tagline very aptly says ‘Hotter than Hell‘ and to make the show as hot as hell, Viacom18 has launched an interesting campaign introducing newer elements, targeting both digital and Out of Home (OOH) media. The show has been created by an in-house creative team, headed by Bhavya Sharma.

The network has roped in Fiama De Wills, Karbonn Mobiles, Zinga and Kama Sutra as sponsors for this season. Revealing further details, MTV business head Aditya Swamy says: “We have integrated our sponsors in the show. We are giving exclusive coverage to them by having exclusive Fiama and Karbonn tasks. We also have their logo presence during the show.”

So what‘s new? The sexy siren Sherlyn Chopra will be the all new sizzling co-host. (We thought Nikhil Chinappa was sexy enough: editor chuckles). Also, the popular ‘Break up Diary‘ segment wherein the female contestants narrated their break-up stories to introduce themselves will now also feature the male contestants. Well, ofcourse, what is more interesting than a bunch of ‘hot‘, bare-chested men talk about how they faced and ‘survived‘ heartbreak, right?

The channel tells us that extensive research has gone into this season to better understand the pulse of the young generation. The research team, headed by Sumeli Chatterjee tried to spot the current trend. “Changes in Splitsvilla 6 have been created based on the opinion from our research group, whom we refer to as trend spotters,” says Swamy.

After research, it was time for the right kind of promotion and what better way than to target the buzzing college campuses. MTV reached out to around 200 college campuses across India, including Kolkata, Lucknow and Chandigarh, during its pre-launch. They also hired campus ambassadors for ‘word of mouth‘ marketing. “We have promoted the show in a big way, keeping 20-30 per cent of our total advertising budget only for social and digital platforms,” informs Bhattacharya.

It‘s the digital front where Splitsvilla aims to create the maximum buzz. “MTV Splitsvilla is the ideal product to proliferate on digital media,” says a media observer. “It‘s for young people who zoom in like bees on outlets such as Facebook, twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and it‘s about relationships. Hence, it‘s good its building up itself on digital media.”

With a humongous 2.7 million likes and 1.5 million active fans on Facebook, more than 3500 avid Twitter followers, MTVSplitsvilla 6 has managed to carve a decent online following for itself.

But, apart from the usually explored territories of Facebook and Twitter, Splitsvilla ventures into the space of mobile apps and also includes a fan mobilising concept.

“We have learnt a lot from MTV Roadies and have applied those lessons to Splitsvilla 6,” says MTV digital head Eklavya Bhattacharya. “What we have done within the digital space has helped us gain a lot of recognition worldwide as one of the best initiatives.”

What more?! Remember that sweet little angel of a daughter in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai? Yes, she is Sana Saeed who was recently seen in Karan Johar‘s college flick Student of the year as a co- lead (read hot bimbo), Splitvilla 6 gets you a web show featuring ‘Sexy Sana‘ who will be analysing (read: Bitching) about all that the contestants did in the televised episode each weekend.

Swamy adds: “Sexy Sana is an exclusively new property this season, which gives Sana‘s takes and reviews on extended videos, unedited parts and behind the scene clippings of the show.”

Entering in the app world, the channels has added ‘I Dubba‘, which allows its 50 million viewers to not only tweet to the show on air, but also chat with fellow fans. Another interesting app is ‘Tickr 2 fame‘, which helps viewers to tweet and chat on Facebook, these conversations are shown on the show.

The additions have helped Splitsvilla connect with its audience. “We have seen a 100 per cent rise in the response from the audience with the addition of new apps. On each show we get 300- 400 people chatting on I Dubba and 1,000 to 2,000 people tweeting on Tickr to Fame,” informs Bhattacharya.

With five episodes already aired, let‘s wait and watch how impressive these new additions prove to be for brands Splitsvilla.

Recap of previous seasons of Splitsvilla…

Splitsvilla Battleground – has been the highlight of all seasons. Being one of the medium to get selected for the show, by performing a task given ‘on the spot‘, this section of Splitsvilla still engages maximum audiences.

Audiosodes – an application though which one can listen to entire show in the voice of popular video jockey, J. Man.
