    Inox launches multiplex in Glomax Mall

    MUMBAI: Inox Leisure has made its entry into Kharghar (Navi Mumbai) with the launch of its multiplex at Glomax Mall.

    Inox is now open to guests with four screens and 1190 seats. All four screens of the multiplex are equipped with the latest “state-of-art” 2k digital projectors to ensure unmatched picture and sound quality.

    Inox Leisure CEO Alok Tandon said, “The launch of Inox in Kharghar will ensure that movie lovers enjoy the top-of-the-line experience. With Inox‘s convenient location, easy accessibility, modern comforts, and high-end technology, we aim to revolutionise the movie watching experience in Navi Mumbai.”

    The movies showcased at Inox – Glomax Mall in the opening week are Talaash (Hindi), Khiladi 786 (Hindi), Hotel Transylvania (English), Life of Pi (3D) (English) and Mokla Shwas (Marathi).

    14th Mumbai film fest from 18 to 25 October

    MUMBAI: The eagerly awaited 14th Mumbai Film Festival, Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) and Reliance Entertainment initiative will be held from 18 to 25 October.

    The festival will be held in the south of Mumbai, heart of the City with NCPA and INOX as the festival venue. This development comes with growing demand from cinema enthusiasts to accommodate them in larger number, thereby expand the cinematic and cultural threshold and enrich their film festival experience.

    To celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema, Mumbai Film Festival has introduced a Competition section called “India Gold 2012” for Indian films with a cumulative cash reward of Rs 15 Lakh.

    The Festival will pay tribute to Italian Cinema through a special selection of films in the Celebration of Italian Cinema, organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in India and Mr. Italo Spinelli.

    The package will include films from all major directors. Restored Italian classics ‘Maciste‘ (1915) and ‘Inferno‘ (1911) will form part of the package of restored world classics that will be screened during the Mumbai Film Festival.

    Nine silent movies will be screened with live music at the 14th Mumbai Film Festival in order to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema and to bring back the era of silent cinema. This will give the audience an idea of what early Indian cinema was like.

    In addition to screening the best of World cinema to foster a climate of good cinema, the 14th Mumbai Film Festival aims to scale up its Film Market, the Mumbai Film Mart this year.

  • Next MAMI Fest in South Mumbai; NCPA and Inox are venues

    MUMBAI: The Board of Trustees of the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) has revealed what transpired at a meeting yesterday. The trustees met and discussed the upcoming 14th Mumbai Film Festival, a Reliance Entertainment initiative.

    Film dignitaries present at the meeting included MAMI chairman Shyam Benegal, trustees – Ramesh Sippy, Sudhir Mishra, Ashutosh Gowariker, Amol Palekar, Amit Khanna, Reliance Entertainment CEO Sanjeev Lamba and festival director Srinivasan Narayanan.

    New additions to the board are filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Sudhir Mishra.

    After a growing demand from cinema enthusiasts to accommodate them in larger number, it was decided to move the festival to South Mumbai, with NCPA and Inox as the festival venues.

    To celebrate 100 years of Indian Cinema, the Mumbai Film Festival has decided to introduce a ‘Competition‘ section for Indian films with a cumulative cash reward of Rs 1.5 million (USD 31,000 approx).

    Other special events are also being chalked out to celebrate the 100 years of Indian Cinema during the course of the Festival.

    Through a special selection of films in the Celebration of Italian Cinema, the Festival will pay tribute to Italian Cinema by way of a special selection of films. The package will include films from all major directors and also restored films like ‘Maciste‘ (1915) and ‘Inferno‘ (1911). The section is to be organised in collaboration with the Embassy of Italy in India and Mr. Italo Spinelli.

    Following last year‘s roaring response for the French films, the new edition of “Rendezvous with French Cinema” will be hosted by the 14th Mumbai Film Festival in collaboration with the Embassy of France in India and Unifrance.

    The Mumbai Film Festival will be held from 18 to 25 October.

    Inox Q2 records 58% net profit at Rs 69.6 million

    MUMBAI: Inox Leisure Ltd has reported 42 per cent year on year (YoY) growth in revenues at Rs 399.6 million for the second quarter ended 30 September 2006 versus Rs 282.4 million in the same quarter of the previous year.

    According to an official release, for the half year, the growth registered at 58 per cent from Rs 508 million crores to Rs 804.9 million.

    The profit after tax for the quarter amounted to Rs 69.6 million, as compared to Rs 56.4 million in the corresponding quarter of the previous year – an increase of 23 per cent.

    For the half year, profit after tax grew from Rs 97.2 million to Rs 153.3 million – an impressive 58 per cent.

    This quarter has seen Inox launch its Nagpur property taking its tally up to 44 screens in 12 multiplexes across 11 cities. Inox has another 21 properties in different stages of implementation, which it expects to operationalise by March 2009. This will help Inox take its total count to 33 properties across 21 cities, 130 screens and 37000 seats by March 2009, informs the release.
    In addition to the above, in September, INOX also entered into a definitive agreement for an all share swap deal with Calcutta Cinema Private Limited (CCPL) for acquiring CCPL & its brand of multiplexes – ‘89 Cinemas’ and merging the latter’s operations with Inox Leisure Limited. CCPL operates 2 properties as at present and has another 7 properties under different stages of implementation.

    Inox Leisure Ltd Deepal Asher said, “We have been able to maintain our industry leadership position in revenues and profitability, due to better footfalls and pricing at our existing multiplexes as well as the addition of new properties to our portfolio. We expect to maintain the momentum of growth going forward, with another seven properties expected to open by March 2007, in cities like Chennai, Mumbai, Bharuch, Vijaywada, Lucknow, Faridabad and Jaipur. We have also been helped with a good spate of releases, and expect this trend of a continuous flow of big budget and good quality content to continue.”

    Inox to acquire Calcutta Cine Pvt Ltd

    MUMBAI: Leading multiplex operator Inox Leisure Limited is acquiring Calcutta Cinema Private Limited (CCPL) in an all-share-swap deal. This will allow Inox to get a firm foothold in West Bengal, adding up to its presence in Kolkata.

    CCPL, which runs its business under the brand 89 Cinemas, plans to commence its second three-screen multiplex at Durgapur in West Bengal within 15 days. The company also runs a four-screen multiplex at Swabhumi in Kolkata.

    The two companies are in the process of appointing an independent valuer. “We have agreed that the valuation will be on the basis of a discounted cash flow model over five years. CCPL is merging its operations with Inox,” says Inox Leisure Limited director Deepak Asher.

    CCPL will have 8-10 properties over the next two years. “We will be able to enhance our pan-India presence in movie exhibition by gaining a strong foothold in West Bengal,” says Asher. Inox presently operates two multiplexes in Kolkatta (Elgin Road and Salt Lake) and one in Darjeeling (Laden La Road).

    Inox also plans to open new multiplexes in Diamond City, Jessore Road with five screens and at Kharagpur with four screens. The agreement with CCPL will take Inox’s tally of multiplexes in West Bengal and Assam up to 13.In addition, CCPL has tied up properties for building and operating six other multiplexes in West Bengal and Assam. CCPL also has an understanding with Bengal Ambuja Housing Development Limited (Bengal Ambuja) – a leading real estate developer in East India – which gives CCPL preferential access as the preferred multiplex operator to all properties being developed by Bengal Ambuja.

    According to the press release, Inox also plans to expand its network with new multiplexes in Hyderabad, Chennai, Jodhpur, Lucknow, Raipur, Kolkata and Bangalore. In addition, Inox also has a strategic alliance with the Pantaloon Group of Companies which provides it with preferential access, as a multiplex operator, to all real estate developments which the Pantaloon Group of Companies and funds managed by it, are developing or otherwise associated with.

    “89 Cinemas is an emerging multiplex chain with a strong regional focus in Eastern India. The proposed merger will enable Inox to build a very strong presence in the region and the inorganic growth opportunity will create great value for Inox shareholders,” Asher says.

    CCPL CEO Debashis Ghosal commented, “We believe that the proposed merger with Inox – India’s most profitable multiplex chain – will create tremendous value for CCPL shareholders, enabling them to partake in the value creation by Inox, as well as enable Inox to build a formidable presence in Eastern India”.

    The proposed merger is subject to due diligence, final approval by Shareholders, Creditors and the High Court. Enam Financial Consultants Pvt.     Inox acquires six new films for distribution

    MUMBAI: The multiplex player Inox Leisure Ltd., has acquired six new films for distribution in the Bengal, Mysore, Rajasthan and Mumbai territories for the next one month.

    The films – Gangster, 36 Chinatown, Ankahee, Tom, Dick & Harry, Killer and Jaaneman will be released in the above territories.

    Inox Leisure Ltd head distribution Aroon Sharma says, “Inox entered the distribution business in September 2005 and since then we have steadily associated ourselves with quality banners in bringing popular content to the theatres. Thanks to our professional approach most film makers prefer to deal with Inox for their distribution requirements. We hope to strengthen our distribution foray in the coming months.”

    The company had earlier acquired exclusive distribution rights to heavyweight titles such as Garam Masala, Rang De Basanti, Apharan, Ek Khiladi, Ek Hasina, Hamko Deewana Kar Gaye, informs an official statement.
