NEXION Sponsors the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts for artists residency

Mumba: Nexion, the Indo-Italian one of the production company  of high-quality sintered stone, entered into a sponsorship agreement with the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts in Ahmedabad, India. This collaboration was proposed by Mallika Sarabhai, an influential figure in the city of Ahmedabad. She completed her MBA from IIM Ahmedabad and her Ph.D. from Gujarat University. Mallika established herself as an international activist, actress, and dancer in Indian classical dance.

Mallika is the daughter of Dr Vikram Sarabhai, a prominent figure in the field of science and development in India, considered the father of the country’s space program, and Mrinalini Sarabhai, dancer of Indian classical dance and the founder of the Darpana Academy of Performing Arts. Today, Mallika leads the Darpana Academy, preserving and promoting the rich artistic heritage of India.

This year, Mallika Sarabhai and Nexion decided to form a three-year partnership to sponsor an artist residency at the Darpana Academy. Thanks to Nexion, India hosted Massimiliano Troiani, an Italian director and son of a master in cinematographic photography, known worldwide for his work in documentary and theatre, and Laura Fasciolo, a renowned Italian set designer with years of experience in theatrical and museum exhibitions related to iconography and bibliography.

Massimiliano staged a reinterpretation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, incorporating both Italian and Indian cultural elements. The show, which featured Mallika in a leading role, premiered at the 44th Vikram Sarabhai International Arts Festival of Natarani, Darpana Academy of Performing Arts, and will be going on tour.

Darpana Academy of Performing Arts founder Mallika Sarabhai expressed her joy in the collaboration stating, “Working on Macbeth with Massimiliano was a delightful experience. This journey emphasizes the lasting connection between India and Italy over the years, based on cultural connections that go beyond mere economic or political factors. Italy has contributed to scholars like Giuseppe Tucci and Weaver, enriching the understanding of Indian culture. Money9 Survey unveils India’s dreams persist amidst economic struggles

Mumbai: Startling revelations from the Money9 Mega Annual Personal Finance Pulse survey shed light on the financial landscape of India. More than 22 per cent of Indians have been forced to deplete their lifetime savings due to unexpected medical emergencies. Despite signs of economic recovery, a daunting 56 per cent of Indian households live in constant fear of job loss.

However amidst these challenges, India continues to dream. The survey indicates that 3 per cent of families plan to purchase a two-wheeler or car in the next six months, while over 10 per cent have their sights set on acquiring a smartphone within the same period.

This groundbreaking data comes from Money9’s annual Personal Finance Pulse survey, the most extensive and comprehensive examination of Indian households’ income, expenditures, standard of living, savings, investments, and future aspirations. Money9, India’s multi-media and multi-language Personal Finance platform, is also a super app, and it is part of the TV9 Network, India’s premier news network.

The 2023 edition of the survey has covered more than 35,000 households across 20 states, spanning 1,170 locations and 115 districts in India. It represents a diverse cross-section of age groups, income levels, and geographical locations, encompassing both urban and rural populations. Special attention has been given to urban and suburban households.

This survey was conducted in collaboration with Research Triangle Institute (RTI) International. RTI International has a proven track record of conducting research studies for various clients, including esteemed organizations such as the World Bank, International Finance Corporation, and the World Health Organization.

TV9 Network MD CEO, Barun Das said, “Amidst the financial challenges revealed by the Money9 Mega Annual Personal Finance Pulse survey, the resilient spirit of India shines through. The data puts a spotlight on both the struggles and dreams of our people. As the MD and CEO of TV9 Network, India’s No.1 News Network, I see a nation unyielding in its aspirations, adapting to change, and crafting unmeasurable layers that define the complexity and richness of India’s financial landscape.”

The Money 9 Mega Annual Personal Finance Pulse survey unravels the stories of challenges and aspirations, painting a vivid picture of our economic landscape. Through these revelations, we empower individuals with knowledge, fostering a community that dreams, adapts, and charts its course towards financial well-being,”

    Post Covid recovery and risks:

The survey reveals that the return of migrant labourers post-Covid has contributed to an increase in the income of India’s urban households in 2023. The average monthly income has surged by over 12 per cent to reach Rs 25,910, up from Rs 23,000 the previous year. However, a staggering 77 per cent of Indians still earn less than Rs 35,000 per month. The Money 9 personal finance survey’s financial security index categorizes 65 per cent of Indian households as financially vulnerable. Alarmingly, only 30 per cent of households reported an improvement in their financial situation in the last five years, while over 70 per cent experienced a decline or stagnation during the same period.

    Big upset in state’s ranking:

In a surprising turn of events, Karnataka has surpassed Maharashtra to claim the top spot in terms of average monthly household income. Karnataka now boasts an impressive figure of Rs 35,411, dethroning Maharashtra, which held the title in the 2022 survey.

    Insurance penetration grows:

Despite the changing financial landscape, the affinity of Indians for gold and traditional bank deposits remains unwavering. Approximately 77 per cent of Indians prefer to safeguard their hard-earned money through bank deposits, while 21 per cent choose to invest in gold. Encouragingly, the survey indicates a positive trend in insurance penetration, with over 27 per cent of households holding life insurance policies in 2023, up from 19 per cent in the 2022 survey. However, a concerning 53 per cent of households still lack health insurance coverage.

    Stocks and Mutual Funds shine:

India’s burgeoning stock market is gradually making its way into the pockets of investors, with the percentage of stock market investors surging from a mere 3 per cent to 9 per cent compared to the previous year. Additionally, 10 per cent of Indian families have now embraced mutual fund investments, up from 6 per cent in 2022.

Not Just India, it is about your city:

The biggest upside, 65 per cent urban Indians polled believe artificial intelligence will lead to many new jobs being created in the country. And 57 per cent urban Indians plan to use social media less in 2024.

    Environment

Climate change has been wreaking havoc around the globe.

In 2024, 65 per cent urban Indians expect more extreme weather events in the country than seen in 2023. 60 per cent Indians also fear a natural disaster hitting a major city. And 70 per cent urban Indians expect the average global temperature to increase.

At the same time 67 per cent urban Indians polled expect the govt to introduce more demanding targets for reducing carbon emissions quickly in 2024. While 63 per cent urban Indians expect more restrictions to be introduced to reduce the amount people drive in their cars in the country.

    Society

Predictions for 2024 are optimistic. 71 per cent urban Indians expect women to be paid the same as men for the same work. 71 per cent expect India to win more medals in the 2024 Summer Olympics than the last one. 66 per cent Indians believe people in the country will become more tolerant of each other.

69 per cent urban Indians predict office workers spending more time in the office than at home, in 2024. 86 per cent Indonesians held this view, 78 per cent Malaysians and 76 per cent Chinese.

63 per cent Indians expect the level of immigration into the country to increase in 2024. Markets predicting the most influx included Portugal (87 per cent), Turkey (82 per cent), Singapore (82 per cent) and Italy (79 per cent).

And 1 in 2 Indians (53 per cent) expect the total size of the population of the country to fall in 2024. For a country that has become the world’s most populous nation.

Ipsos India CEO Amit Adarkar said, “Majority of our citizens have a positive outlook for 2024, predicting it to be a better year for them. Though they are bracing themselves up for a tougher year in terms of inflation, rising prices, higher interest rates and higher unemployment. Year 2023 was a bad year is the majority verdict. The year saw many upheavals due to inflation, rise in prices of essential commodities, yo-yo of fuel prices, drought and floods and violence in certain parts of the country. The predictions for 2024 hinge a lot on optimism, of office workers going more often physically to work, govt taking stringent measures to reduce the carbon footprint, pay parity of women with men doing the same work, citizens becoming more tolerant of one another and India bagging more medals in its kitty in the summer Olympics. AI is expected to stave off some jobs and create new ones, so this will put a lot of emphasis on reskilling. Cautious optimism is the approach for 2024, as there is also fear of a new more severe pandemic and natural disasters.”
