    MUMBAI: Times Network’s English and business news channel Times Now and ET Now respectively dominated their respective genres in week 14. India TV garnered the number one position in Hindi News. According to week 14 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India ratings, the leadership has been maintained in this week’s Hindi business news genre with CNBC Awaaz.

    English News

    Times Now continued to rule the English news genre with 306 (‘000s) followed by India Today Television at the second place with 147 (‘000s). CNN IBN took the third position with 120 (‘000s), while News 9 was in fourth place with 93 (‘000s).  NDTV 24×7 secured the fifth position with 92 (‘000s).

    English Business News

    ET Now dominated the English business news genre with 88 (‘000s) followed by CNBC TV18 with 87 (‘000s) in the second place. NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime stayed at the third position with 28 (‘000s) while Bloomberg TV maintained its fourth slot with 15 (‘000s).

    Hindi News

    India TV grabbed the first berth with 78174 (‘000s) followed by Aaj Tak garnering the second position with 73704 (‘000s). India News stood at number three with 57731 (‘000s). ABP News moved up the the fourth position with 48857 (‘000s) followed by News Nation with 47637 (‘000s) grabbing the fifth slot.

    Hindi Business News

    CNBC Awaaz dominated the genre with 660 (‘000s) followed by Zee Business with 513 (‘000s) at number two.

    Times Now, Aaj Tak & ET Now lead news genre: BARC ratings week 51

    MUMBAI: Following the age old saying ‘All’s well that ends well,’ Times Now ends the year on top of the chart with 507 (000s Sum). The channel led by Arnab Goswami slipped from the top spot just once in the entire calendar year.

    On the other hand, NDTV 24×7 with 229 (000s Sum) secured the second position over India Today Television, which garnered 207 (000s Sum).

    Times Now is not the only success story for Times Network, the business news channel under the umbrella ET Now with 151 (000s Sum) finished the year in pole position. While NDTV Profit climbed up to the second slot with 93 (000s Sum), CNBC with 82 (000s Sum) booked the third berth.

    Aaj Tak with 73183 (000s Sum) led the Hindi News genre followed by India TV with 57156 (000s Sum). ABP News garnered 51239 (000s Sum) to secure the third slot.

    Chrome week 49: Hindi News & Sports genres top the charts

    MUMBAI: The Hindi News and Sports genres were the only two gainers in Chrome’s opportunity to see (OTS) analysis on an All India basis in week 49.

     

    The Hindi News genre witnessed the hike of 0.1 per cent and India TV bagged the first spot in the genre with 94.1 per cent OTS.

     

    The Sports segment emerged as the second gainer in the list and gained 0.1 per cent with DD sports topping the chart with 74 per cent OTS.

     

    English Movies, English Entertainment, Hindi Movies and Infotainment genres were among the losers of week 49.

     

    English Movies in six metros dropped by three per cent. Movies Now was the most affected channel in the genre with 56 per cent OTS followed by English Entertainment with a downfall of 1.7 per cent and Comedy Central led the tally in the space with 48.6 OTS.

     

    The Hindi Movies genre across Hindi Speaking Market (HSM) saw a drop of 0.7 per cent with Max on the top with 92.6 per cent OTS.

     

    Infotainment on All India basis dropped by 0.6 per cent and History TV18 emerged as the number one channel in the section with 79.3 per cent OTS.

    MUMBAI:  Sports genre  emerged as the top gainer across India with the growth of 4.1 per cent, making DD Sports the number one channel with 74.1 per cent Opportunity To See (OTS) in week 47, according to the Chrome Data Analytics & Media.

     

    Kids genre grabbed the second place with 1.0 per cent of growth. Nickelodeon claimed the position of the top gainer in section with 77. 6 per cent of OTS throughout India.

     

    Third on the list is Music genre in Hindi Speaking Market (HSM) witnessing a growth of 0.5 per cent. Within the section, 9XM grabbed the first place with 84.8 per cent of OTS.

     

    In infotainment section, which is fourth place in the list with a rise of 0.4 per cent, the week saw History TV 18 emerging as the top channel with 79.4 per cent of OTS.  

     

    English Entertainment, Business News, English Movies and Hindi news failed to garner enough eyeballs this week, making them the losers.

     

    English entertainment witnessed a drop of 2.2 per cent in six metros while Zee Café lead the genre with 51.4 per cent of OTS in week 47.

     

    On the other hand Business news genre dropped by 2.0 per cent in six metros. CNBC Awaaz emerged as the top loser with 76.6 per cent of OTS.

     

    On the other hand, English news took the third place after a drop of  1.2 per cent in six metros. Within the genre, Loksabha TV got 92.8 of OTS, while Hindi news genre dropped by 0.9 per cent.  India TV led the genre with 94.7 per cent of OTS.

    MUMBAI: According to analysis conducted by S-Group, an Analytical arm of TAM Media Research, week 46 began with the Bihar Assembly Elections, followed by Diwali celebrations, Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UK and ended on a sad note with the serial blasts in Paris, France.

    TAM data says that Hindi news genre in Hindi Speaking market saw a gain of 28.28 GRPs. In Hindi news section Aaj Tak led the genre with 35.54 GRPs followed by ABP News with 28.45 GRPs and Z News with 24.49 GRPs. India TV bagged fourth place with 23.44 GRPs and News Nation grabbed fifth spot with 18.76 GRPs.   

    IBN 7 with 13.54 GRPs bagged sixth berth. News 24 and TEZ garnered seventh and eighth spot with 11.78 GRPs and 11.18 GRPs respectively. India News stood at ninth place with 10.26 GRPS followed by NDTV India with 9.13 GRPs on tenth spot and DD News with 4.24 GRPs on eleventh spot. Live India and Samay stood on the twelfth and thirteenth spot with 3.68 GRPs and 0.83 GRPs respectively.  

    The English News genre witnessed a total gain of 3.91 GRPs.  Times Now  led the tally with 4.32 GRPs followed by NDTV 24×7 in second place with 2.38 GRPs and India Today with 1.94 GRPs. CNN-IBN  bagged fourth place with 1.40 GRPs and News 9  with 0.73 GRPs garnered the fifth spot in the genre.  News X stood at sixth spot with 0.72 GRPs against 0.75 GRPs in week 45. BBC World News and CNN bagged the seventh and eighth spots with 0.29 GRPs each.

    The News genre saw a rise in viewership this week. The rise was contributed due to the rise in both Reach and Time Spent. Hindi and English News genres saw a 17 per cent and 44 per cent rise with respect to (wrt) the previous week, respectively.

    The major stories this week were the Bihar Assembly Elections, Attacks in Paris and Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the UK etc. These three stories together were given 54 per cent coverage in the Hindi news genre and 63 per cent coverage in the English News genre. Report on Diwali celebrations was also given decent coverage and received average viewership.

    In the contribution of top stories to the news genre, 39 percent of viewership was devoted to results of Bihar Assembly Election, whereas PM Narendra Modi’s visit to UK got 17 percent of viewership. The serial blasts in in Paris received 6 per cent of viewership while others garnered 38 percent of the share in Hindi News genre.

    In the English news genre, 47 percent of viewership was due to the results of Bihar Assembly Election and PM Narendra Modi’s visit to UK got 22 percent of viewership. The serial blasts in Paris received 8 per cent while others garnered 23 percent of viewership.

    Amongst the three top stories, The serial blasts in Paris received higher viewership contribution from higher SECs- A/B, whereas Modi’s visit to the UK had a higher skew from SEC D/E. Also, it was the news on Paris that had the maximum skew from male viewers.

    There was a gradual drop in coverage of the Bihar Assembly Result news throughout the week.   Modi’s visit to UK witnessed the heavy coverage in mid-week. Post the serial blasts in Paris on Friday night, that news was covered heavily on Saturday.

    MUMBAI: In week 44, While Times Now maintained its number one position in the English news channels genre in the All India (U+R) market according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India data, Aaj Tak slipped to second slot, while India TV secured the leadership position in the Hindi news channels section. 
     
    In the English business and Hindi business news genre, ET Now and CNBC Awaaz maintained their position as leaders in their respective genres. 

    HINDI NEWS
     
    India TV secured the first place in Hindi news genre with 71129 (000Sums) followed by Aaj Tak which fell one place down to second spot with 68284 (000Sums). ABP News secured the third berth with 61433 (000Sums), whereas News Nation with 51833 (000Sums) and Zee News with 50460 (000Sums) grabbed the fourth and fifth spot respectively. 
     
     
    ENGLISH NEWS
     
    Times Now garnered maximum ratings in the genre and continued to be in the pole position with 671 (000Sums) followed by CNN IBN at second position with 320 (000Sums). NDTV 24×7 garnered third position with 278 (000Sums) and India Today Television saw an increase in ratings, it continued to hold the fourth place with 235 (000Sums) against 152(000Sums) in the previous week. News 9 continued to maintain fifth slot with a score of 175 (000Sums) against 124 (000Sums) in week 43.

    In the English business news channels, ET Now continues to dominate the genre with 467 (000Sums) followed by CNBC TV18 with 277 (000Sums) in the second spot. NDTV Profit & Prime in the third slot scored 109 (000Sums), whereas Bloomberg TV secured fourth place with 23 (000Sums) in week 44.

    India TV ropes in Paritosh Joshi as CEO

    MUMBAI: India TV has appointed Paritosh Joshi as its new CEO. Joshi has been a ‘strategist’ for the news channel since 2012 and was tasked with optimising and leading the revenue function of the company’s existing businesses and also develop business for its forthcoming ventures.

     

    Joshi’s last assignment was as Star CJ Network CEO.

     

    At India TV, the CEO post was until now held by India TV managing director Ritu Dhawan, who was given the additional portfolio in 2009 post a restructuring exercise.

     

    Dhawan said, “Paritosh has been part of India TV family for well over three years. Its is a pleasure to welcome him home.”

     

    Joshi added,”I have been privileged to work alongside the terrific team here for several years and when Ritu asked me to take up this responsibility, it seemed like a natural next step.”

     

    Joshi joined Star TV in August 2005 as president, advertising sales and distribution. In 2009, he was made CEO of Star CJ Network India, which was a joint venture of Star Television and South Korea’s CJ O Shopping. He quit Star CJ Network in April 2012 and has since been working on a number of industry initiatives including the Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India.

     

    Apart from being a strategist at India TV, Joshi was also strategic advisor to the Shailesh Kapoor helmed Ormax Media.

     

    Joshi, who was until recently Media Research Users Council (MRUC) chairman of the Technical Committee, now serves as mentor for the council.
