  • ABP slips in three categories, NDTV, Zee, India TV & India News climb a slot each

    MUMBAI: Times Now continued to dominate the English news genre though the players in the space witnessed an overall fall in viewership this week. NDTV 24×7 climbed a spot to the third position whereas CNN News 18 fell from the third to the fourth position, according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India data. 

    CNBC TV18, with a slight fall in the ratings, has retained the leadership in English Business news.

    Aaj Tak retained its Hindi news dominance in the current week, leading in all three genres, witnessing a slight decline in the ratings. ABP news slipped in all the three genres by two slots.

    English News

    Times Now with a minor drop in ratings continued to dominate the genre with 645 Impressions (000s) sum this week against 767 Impressions(000s) sum last week followed by India Today with 368 Impressions (000s) sum. NDTV 24×7 climbed to third spot replacing CNN News18 with 290 Impressions (000s) sum. CNN News18 and BBC World News respectively took the fourth and fifth positions with 207 Impressions(000s) sum and 128 Impressions (000s) sum.

    English Business news

    CNBC TV18, also with a decline in ratings, retained the number one position with 535 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 696 Impressions (000s) sum. ET Now with 372 Impressions (000s) sum sat pretty at the second spot this week. All others held the same slots as last week.

    Hindi News (U+R)

    Aaj Tak, with a decrease in ratings, retained its numero uno position with 99112 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 104644 Impressions (000s) sum in week 18. India TV and Zee News climbed a spot each to the second and third position with 83481 Impressions (000s) sum and 81535 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. 

    ABP News slipped by two slots to the fourth position with 72605 Impressions (000s) sum followed by News18 India with 65420 Impressions (000s) sum at fifth spot.

    Hindi News – Rural

    Aaj Tak, with a drop in its ratings, emerged as the number one channel in the rural market with 42999 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 44287 Impressions (000s) sum last week followed by India TV with 35429 Impressions (000s) sum. 

    Zee News and India News climbed a spot each reaching the third and fourth positions with 32364 Impressions (000s) sum and 30602 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. 

    ABP News dropped by two slots which brings it to fifth position with 30525 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi News – Urban

    Aaj Tak, with a slight fall in its viewership, maintained its leadership position with 56113 Impressions (000s) sum in BARC week 18. 

    Zee News and India TV climbed a slot each to the second and third positions with 49170 Impressions (000s) sum and 48052 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. ABP News dropped by two slots reaching the fourth position with 42080 Impressions (000s) sum followed by News18 India with 38017 Impressions (000s) sum. 

  • India TV’s ‘Samvaad’ to take stock of Modi’s three years of governance

  • ABP climbs, India TV & NDTV slip as entrenched leaders see ratings hike

    MUMBAI: Times Now continued to be the leader of the English news genre with a decent hike in BARC India ratings week 17 and India Today Television climbed up to the second spot from the third position last week. 

    In the English business news genre, CNBC TV maintained the top slot witnessing a good hike in ratings. In Hindi news (U+R), Aaj Tak continued to lead the genre across the market. ABP News jumped two spots in both Hindi news as well as Hindi news – Urban. CNBC Awaaz continued to dominate the genre with a hike in the rating.

    English News

    Times now continued to lead the genre with 767 Impressions (000s) sum followed by India Today Television and CNN News18. Both climbed up a spot each at second and third positions with 362 Impressions (000s) sum and 257 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. NDTV 24×7 slipped to fourth position from its second slot in the previous week with 244 Impressions (000s) sum and BBC world news grabbed the fifth spot with a slight increase in the rating.

    English Business news

    CNBC TV retained the number one position with 696 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 492 Impressions (000s) sum whereas ET Now with a fall in the ratings of 261 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 414 Impressions (000s) sum grabbed the second position. 

    NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime were at third position with 77 Impressions (000s) sum. BTVi was on the fourth spot with 19 Impressions (000s) sum and CNBC TV18 Prime HD stood at the fifth place with three  Impressions (000s) sum which was the same last week.

    Hindi News

    Aaj Tak, with a slight hike in the ratings, retained its number one position with 104644 Impressions (000s) sum in BARC week 17. ABP News regained its second position with a week’s gap with 88038 Impressions (000s) sum from fourth in the last week. 

    India TV and Zee News dropped a slot each with 87544 Impressions (000s) sum and 86124 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. News18 India is at fifth position with 65101 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi Rural news

    Aaj Tak, with a fall in its ratings, emerged the number one channel in the rural market with 44287 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 45151 Impressions (000s) sum last week. India TV sat at the second spot with 37811 Impressions (000s) sum as ABP News was at the third slot with 36092 Impressions (000s) sum. Zee News and India TV, interchanged their slots in BARC week 17 respectively taking the fourth and fifth place with 34908 and 31301 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi Urban news

    Aaj Tak, with a great hike in its viewership, emerged as the leader in the urban market with 60357 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 53456 Impressions (000s) sum last week. ABP News climed to the second slot with 51945 Impressions (000s) sum from its fourth position last week with 42849 Impressions (000s) sum. Zee News and India TV slipped a slot each with 51215 Impressions (000s) sum and 49732 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. News18 India took the fifth position with 38232 Impressions (000s).

  • News: India TV climbs & ABP slips in two categories

    MUMBAI: Despite a general fall in ratings across the news genre, Times Now continued to be the leader in the English news genre and CNBC TV maintained the top slot in the English business news genre.

    In Hindi news (U+R), Aaj Tak witnessed a dip in ratings but continued to lead the genre across the market. India TV climbed a spot each in Hindi news as well as Hindi news -rural, and Zee News upgraded to a higher spot in Hindi news. CNBC Awaaz, too, continued to dominate the genre with a hike in the ratings, according to BARC India week 16 ratings.

    English News

    Times now continued to lead the genre although it witnessed a dip in the rating this week. The channel registered 552 Impressions (000s) followed by NDTV on the second spot with 345 Impressions (000s) and India Today Television on the third spot with 301 Impressions (000s). CNN News18 with 237 Impressions (000s) stood at number four and BBC world news grabbed the fifth spot with a slight increase in the rating.

    English Business news

    Even after witnessing a dip in rating this week, CNBC TV retained the number one position with 492 Impressions (000s) as compared to last week’s 510 Impressions (000s) whereas ET Now with a great hike in the ratings of 414 Impressions (000s) as compared to last week’s 232 Impressions (000s) grabbed the second position. NDTV profit and NDTV Prime were at third position with 44 Impressions (000s). 

    BTVi was on the fourth spot with 20 Impressions (000s). CNBC TV18 Prime HD took the fifth place with three Impressions (000s) as compared to last week’s 32 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News

    Aaj Tak, with decreased ratings, retained its number one position with 98608 Impressions (000s) in BARC week 16. India TV and Zee News climbed up one position each with 85342 Impressions (000s) and 78099 Impressions (000s), respectively. ABP news dropped to fourth position from second last week with 77731 Impressions (000s). News18 India is at fifth position with 65610 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi Rural news

    Aaj Tak, with a fall in its ratings, emerged as the number one channel in the rural market with 45151 Impressions (000s) as compared to 50951 Impressions (000s) last week. India TV climbed one spot with 35448 Impressions (000s) as ABP News slipped by one slot with 34882 Impressions (000s). India News and Zee news, respectively, took the forth and fifth place with 33580 and 31486 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi Urban news

    Aaj Tak, with a decrease in its viewership, emerged as the leader in the urban market with 53456 Impressions (000s) as compared to 58914 Impressions (000s) last week. India TV bagged the second slot with 49894 Impressions (000s) and Zee News took the third position with 46613 Impressions (000s). ABP news was at the fourth position with 42849 and News18 India took the fifth position with 39006 Impressions (000s).

  • Hindi News, Urban & Rural, observe increased ratings

    MUMBAI: The English News genre witnessed a substantial increase in ratings this week. Led by Times Now, the players have seen a steep rise in their viewership. BBC World News exited the Top 5 list making way for the entry of News X.

    In the English Business News space, players observed mixed ratings. The genre was dominated by ET Now.

    In the Hindi News, Urban and Rural genres, players have observed a hike in their viewership this week. The Hind News genre continued to be dominated by Aaj Tak.

    According to week 11 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), in the Hindi News Rural space, India News departed the Top 5 list this week paving way for the entry of News24. Players in the Hindi Business News space also witnessed increased viewership this week.

    Times Now with a whopping spike in its ratings continued to dominate the genre with 2282 Impressions (000s) this week as against 777 Impressions (000s) last week. CNN News18 was at the second slot with 1006 Impressions (000s) while India Today Television took the third position with 805 Impressions (000s). NDTV 24×7 with 656 Impressions (000s) and News X with 148 Impressions (000s) took the fourth and fifth position respectively.

    English Business News

    ET Now continued to dominate the genre with 676 Impressions (000s) followed by CNBC TV18 with 668 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime were at the third position with 80 Impressions (000s). BTVi was on the fourth spot with 28 Impressions (000s). CNBC TV 18 Prime HD took the fifth place with 18 Impressions (000s).

    Aaj Tak with increased ratings continued at its number one position with 178049 Impressions (000s) as compared to 133173 Impressions (000s) in week 10. ABP News came at the second position with 160270 Impressions (000s). Zee News sustained its third position with 138135 Impressions (000s) followed by India TV at the fourth position with 133276 Impressions (000s). India News sustained at the fifth position with 100725 Impressions (000s).

    Aaj Tak with an increase in ratings was at the number one position in the rural market with 81498 Impressions (000s) as compared to 62098 Impressions (000s) last week. ABP News was at the second place with 77089 Impressions (000s). Zee News grabbed the third position with 59874 Impressions (000s). India TV took the fourth place with 56024 Impressions (000s) followed by News 24 with 55739 Impressions (000s) at the fifth position.

    Aaj Tak with increase in ratings continued at the number one spot in the urban market with 96550 Impressions (000s). ABP News was at the second position with 83180 Impressions (000s). Zee News took the third position with 78260 Impressions (000s) followed by India TV at the fourth position with 77251 Impressions (000s). News18 India took the fifth position with 56347 Impressions (000s).

    CNBC Awaaz continued to dominate the genre with increase in ratings from 1997 Impressions (000s) last week to 2348 Impressions (000s) this week. The second spot was taken by Zee Business with 1605 Impressions (000s).

  • Hindi & English News see boost in ratings

    MUMBAI: The Hindi News genre witnessed a substantial increase in ratings this week. Led by Aaj Tak, the players have seen a steep rise in their viewership. Even in the Hindi News Rural genre, the channel observed an increase in ratings except ABP. The genre continued to be dominated by Aaj Tak.

    According to week 10 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the Hindi News Urban space also saw increased ratings. The English News channels witnessed an increase in ratings, except for BBC World News. The genre was dominated by Times Now.

    In the English Business News space, players observed mixed ratings. Players in the Hindi Business News space witnessed mixed viewership this week.

    Times Now with an increase in its ratings continued to dominate the genre with 777 Impressions (000s) this week as against 727 Impressions (000s) last week. India Today Television was at the second slot with 461 Impressions (000s) while NDTV 24×7 took the third position with 437 Impressions (000s). CNN News18 with 435 Impressions (000s) and BBC World News with 139 Impressions (000s) took the fourth and fifth position respectively.

  • BARC: English & Hindi News genres show decline in ratings

    MUMBAI: Perhaps the approach of the end of the state elections had something to do with it, but English News channels witnessed a decrease in ratings except for CNN-News18. The genre was dominated by Times Now. In the English Business News space, players observed a substantial increase in its viewership except BTVi.

    Even as the Hindi news channels also saw a downslide, Aaj Tak continued to lead and the genre saw the entry of India News in the top 5 channels list while News Nation dropped out.

    According to week 9 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC), the exit of News Nation made way for the entry of News18 India in the Hindi News Urban genre. The players witnessed a decrease in the ratings. In the Hindi News Urban space, players witnessed mixed ratings.

    Players in the Hindi Business News space witnessed a substantial increase in their viewership this week.

    Times Now with a decrease in its ratings continued to dominate the genre with 727 Impressions (000s) this week as against 798 Impressions (000s) last week. CNN News18 came to the second slot with 435 Impressions (000s) while India Today Television took the third position with 346 Impressions (000s). NDTV 24×7 with 297 Impressions (000s) and BBC World News with 149 Impressions (000s) took the fourth and fifth position respectively.

  • English news channels witness increased ratings, Times Now, CNBC TV 18 lead respective genres

    MUMBAI: Channels in both, English News and English Business News, genres saw a hike in their ratings this week. While Times Now continued to be the undisputed leader in the English News space, CNBC TV18 dominated the English Business News genre.

    Led by Aaj Tak, the Hindi News genre saw the entry of News Nation in the top 5 channels list while News18 India dropped out of Top 5 this week. The players witnessed mixed ratings.

    News24 too exited the Top 5 list in this week’s data making way for the entry of Zee News in the Hindi News Rural genre. In the Hindi News Urban space, News Nation made a comeback in Top 5, leading to the departure of News18 India.

    According to week 8 of Broadcast Association Research Council (BARC), players in the Hindi Business News space witnessed a substantial increase in their viewership this week.

    Times Now with a substantial increase in its ratings continued to dominate the genre with 798 Impressions (000s) as to 580 Impressions (000s) last week. India Today Television was at the second slot with 498 Impressions (000s) while CNN News18 was at the third position with 404 Impressions. NDTV 24×7 with 376 Impressions (000s) and BBC World News with 184 Impressions (000s) took the fourth and fifth position, respectively.

    CNBC TV18 was at the number one position with 530 Impressions (000s) followed by ET Now with 255 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime was at the third position with 73 Impressions (000s). BTVi was on the fourth spot with 46 Impressions (000s). CNBC TV 18 Prime HD sustained at the fifth place with 16 Impressions (000s).

  • Aaj Tak regains number one position in Hindi News genre

    MUMBAI: Zee News made way for the entry of News24 in the top five channels’ list in the Hindi News Rural genre in this week’s BARC India data. In the Hindi News Urban space, ABP showed up in the top five list pushing out News Nation.

    Aaj Tak regained its number one position in the Hindi News genre. All the players in the Hindi Business News space witnessed substantial decrease in their viewership this week.

    According to BARC week 6, the players in the English News and English Business News genre witnessed mixed ratings.

    Times Now with a decrease in its ratings continued to dominate the genre with 580 Impressions (000s) as to 588 Impressions (000s) last week. India Today Television was at the second slot with 349 Impressions (000s) while CNN News18 was at the third position with 303 Impressions. NDTV 24×7 with 261 Impressions (000s) and BBC World News with 75 Impressions (000s) took the fourth and fifth position, respectively.

    English Business News

    CNBC TV18 retained the number one position with 344 Impressions (000s) followed by ET Now with 157 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime was at the third position with 51 Impressions (000s). BTVi was on the fourth spot with 20 Impressions (000s). CNBC TV 18 Prime HD retained the fifth place with 14 Impressions (000s).

    CNBC Awaaz continued to dominate the genre with decrease in ratings from 1499 Impressions (000s) last week to 1409 Impressions (000s) this week. The second spot was taken by Zee Business with 934 Impressions (000s).

  • Vikas Handu joins India TV as VP digital strategy

    MUMBAI: Vikas Handu has joined India TV as a vice president, Digital Strategy. Prior to this he had been heading product and technology at The Indian Express group. He will report to Ritu Dhawan, MD and CEO, India TV.

    Handu played a pivotal role in taking forward The Indian Express brand on the digital platform, opening up new avenues for traffic growth and revenues.

    On his appointment Handu said, “India TV as a brand has grown immensely and has established itself as one of the foremost media brands in the country. I am excited for this opportunity that shall let me contribute to India TV’s rapidly growing digital footprint.”

    In his new role as business head, Handu shall be responsible for spearheading India TV digital. His portfolio includes indiatvnews.com,khabarindiatv.com and paisa.khabarindia.com, amongst others.
