    Mumbai: Like every year, the Business Today MindRush and Best CEO Awards, a much-awaited event for India, recently concluded with much pomp and fervour, with the who’s who of India Inc. in attendance. Hosted by the India Today Group, the event serves as a pivotal platform for industry stalwarts, entrepreneurs, and thought leaders to converge, exchange ideas, and recognise outstanding achievements in business leadership.

    The annual event, known for its robust discussions on emerging trends and challenges in the business landscape, witnessed the captains of India Inc. across sectors coming together to share insights and experiences. This year’s BT MindRush was no exception. There were several thought-provoking sessions at the event. Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Housing & Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas, said that the time had come for the Indian private sector to shed some of its inhibitions and to accept global challenges, which were “low-hanging fruit for them”.

    In another session, India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said that the country could not only grow on the back of services. “It has to grow in manufacturing, services, sustainable urbanisation, and also agricultural productivity,” he said. Apollo Hospitals Enterprise executive vice chairperson Preetha Reddy said there was an urgent need to transform healthcare into a fundamental right, aligning it with education, while Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, in a message for young Indian entrepreneurs, said that India was a country of possibilities and opportunities. Federal Bank MD & CEO Shyam Srinivasan said that India was witnessing a Cinderella moment in terms of banking and economy, while ITC Ltd chairman & MD Sanjiv Puri, highlighted the resilience of India, adding that consumer demand should be back in a couple of quarters.

    The highlight of the event was the felicitation of this year’s awardees of the prestigious BT-PwC India’s Best CEOs ranking, where a distinguished panel of industry experts picked the winners awards after a rigorous process.

    This year, telecom tycoon Bharti Enterprises chairman Sunil Bharti Mittal, was honoured as the “Business Icon of the Year”, symbolising resilience and visionary leadership in the face of challenges. The jury also picked India’s G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant as the “Impact Leader of the Year”, a special award underscoring his significant contributions to the country’s economic growth and global stature. Another distinguished awardee was healthcare pioneer Dr Prathap C Reddy. The visionary founder chairman of Apollo Hospitals was honoured with the “Lifetime Achievement Award” for his unparalleled dedication to healthcare and innovation.

    Winners were recognised across diverse sectors of Indian business, including infrastructure, healthcare, consumer goods, IT, energy, and more. The awardees included Kushal N Desai, CMD of APAR Industries, Satyanarayana Chava, founder & CEO of Laurus Labs, and Sunil Vachani, executive chairman of Dixon Technologies (India), among others. Meanwhile, Satish Pai, MD of Hindalco Industries, won in the category of super large companies; Sanjiv Puri, CMD of ITC Ltd for large companies; and Abhyuday Jindal, MD of Jindal Stainless, in the mid-sized category.

    The event also celebrated emerging companies and leaders who are shaping the future of the Indian business landscape. Naresh Jalan, MD of Ramkrishna Forgings, and Pradeep Gaur, CMD of RVNL, were among the distinguished awardees. Business leaders were also recognised for demonstrating exceptional leadership qualities and resilience. Patanjali G. Keswani, CMD of Lemon Tree Hotels, won the “Resilient CEO” award, while K.P. Ramasamy, Chairman of KPR Mill, received the award for “Glocal CEO”.

    Exemplary achievements in deal-making and disruptive innovation were recognised, with LTIMindtree CEO & MD Debashis Chatterjee, receiving the “Best Deal” award, while OfBusiness co-founder & CEO Asish Mohapatra won in the “Unicorn” category.

    India Today group chairman and editor-in-chief Aroon Purie also spoke on the occasion, outlining that while India had made progress on many fronts, there was more work to be done in moving from a regulatory mindset to that of facilitation. He lauded the efforts of the winners in creating enterprises that India can be proud of.

    The special issue of Business Today on India’s Best CEOs was also unveiled at the event.

    Mumbai: OTT platforms are growing significantly in various regional languages across India. Ministry of information and broadcasting, government of India secretary Sanjay Jaju indicated this in his keynote address at India Digital Summit (IDS) 2024, in Mumbai. He pointed out that there were over 60 OTT platforms in India out which 30 per cent OTT Originals were operating in regional languages. The number is expected to go up to 50 per cent this year.

    Jaju also said that the media and entertainment sector was a huge sector and played a pivotal role in the Indian economy. “It’s been growing phenomenally at a rate of 20 per cent and is approximately Rs 2 Lakh Crore. In that, the digital media segment is the second largest sub-segment, and has been showing a growth of approximately 30 per cent — around Rs. 60,000 Crores — and the film segment has a 25 per cent growth rate,” he said. Sharing data, he added that over 200 films were released on the digital platforms in the last year, including 75 films which were released directly on the digital platform without a theatrical release.

    Regarding the growth of the digital gaming industry, Jaju said, “The online gaming industry has been growing by 34 per cent and animation and VFX have close to around 30 percent growth rate, expected to become a $2 billion industry by 2025.”  

    Jaju also announced some new initiatives that the government is taking to provide a boost to the media and entertainment sector in India. These include the setting up of a National Centre of Excellence in Maharashtra to create world class media talent and an incentive scheme to attract international projects. He pointed out that, this would help the industry undertake a lot of co-production treaties with multiple countries and create a number of audiovisual co-productions.

    Kalli Purie is the new executive editor-in-chief of India Today Group

    Mumbai: Existing vice president Kalli Purie of India Today Group was assigned additional charge as executive editor-in-chief of the group. She has been serving as vice president of the group since 2017. She is the daughter of Aroon Purie. In the internal communication in the company he wrote, ‘  I am designating her additional responsibility as executive editor in chief to being vice president chairperson of India Today Group.’

    In brief mail, Aroon Purie stated ‘ As you all know KP has been successfully heading the business and editing domains for a while. In line with her role, I would like to announce an additional designation for her as editor in chief of the India Today Group. This will not require any operational change for now.’

    She has been part of the group since 1996 heading from magazine, she also successfully served as Chief Operating Officer of the India Today Group Digital.

    Mumbai: India Today Group CMO Vivek Malhotra has been elected the new chairperson of the Digital Advertising Council (DAC), which functions under the aegis of Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI). Jagran New Media CEO Bharat Gupta and Meta director and head – ad business Arun Srinivas have been appointed co-chairs of the DAC.

    The Digital Advertising Council (DAC) under IAMAI is a strong voice in the advertising ecosystem. With over 110 active members including agencies, publishers, affiliates, adtech and martech companies, DAC engages with more than 500 brands, 250 agencies and 100 publishers through various conferences, roundtables, and offsites.

    DAC is working with digital advertising stakeholders towards the goal of the growth of the digital advertising sector and is committed to delivering value. In the last 18 years of its existence, it has helped the industry grow from a one per cent of the total advertising spends in the country to approximately between 30-34 per cent today. Of the many things it engages in, one of the most prominent processes it has set up, is the Billing and Payment Recovery process (BNPP), which helps IAMAI publishers and agencies alike to be paid on time.

    The new leadership team will play a pivotal role in guiding DAC and its digital advertising stakeholders to work towards the goal of the growth of the digital advertising sector. Along with this they will also be overseeing and supporting the three Task Force Groups viz. Unified Standard Measurement, Cookieless Future and Affiliate Best Practices. Additionally, they will continue to interact regularly with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, ensuring that the interests and concerns of the digital advertising community are effectively represented in regulatory discussions and decision-making processes.

    Mumbai:  The ruling BJP may emerge as the single largest party and may just touch the half-way mark of 115 seats in the Madhya Pradesh assembly election to be held next month on November 17, says India TV-CNX opinion poll survey. Results of the survey were telecast today on the news channel.

    The opinion poll projections show, BJP may win 115 seats, compared to 109 seats it had won five years ago in the 230-member assembly. The main opposition party Congress may win 110 seats, compared to 114 seats it had won five years ago, says the survey. ‘Others’ including independents hold the key, and they are likely to win five seats. In the last elections, seven seats were won by independents and local parties.

    Vote share projections show, BJP may get 44.38 per cent, Congress may get 42.51 per cent, and ‘Others’ may get 13.11 pc. In the 2018 elections, BJP had got 41.02 pc, Congress had got 40.89 pc, and ‘Others’ had got 18.09 pc votes.

    REGION-WISE SEAT PROJECTIONS

    Region-wise, India TV-CNX poll projections show:  

    In Baghelkhand having 51 seats, BJP may win 31, Congress may win 19 and Others may win one seat.

    In Bhopal having 24 seats, BJP may win 16 seats leaving the remaining eight seats to Congress.

    In Chambal having 34 seats, Congress may win 22 seats, leaving 12 seats to BJP.

    In Mahakaushal having 47 seats, Congress may win 26 seats, BJP may win 19 seats, and Others may win two seats.

    In Malwa having 46 seats, BJP may win 25 seats, Congress may win 20 seats, and the remaining one seat may go to Others.

    In Nimar having 28 seats, Congress may win 15 seats, BJP may win 12 seats, and the remaining one seat may go to Others.

    PREFERENCE FOR CHIEF MINISTER

    The survey findings show Shivraj Singh Chauhan leading with 44.32 per cent respondents wishing him to continue as chief minister. Chauhan is closely followed by State Congress chief Kamal Nath with 38.58 per cent respondents showing their preference for him as the next CM. BJP leader and union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia stands in third position with only 9.00 per cent, Congress leader Digvijay Singh with 1.52 pc, and ‘Others’ being preferred by 6.58 pc respondents.

    KEY FINDINGS

    •  A whopping 65.32 per cent respondents said, there should be a caste-based census in MP, while 20.63 pc were not in favour. 14.05 pc said, Can’t say.
    •  27.4 per cent respondents said, unemployment was the biggest issue in MP, while 21.05 pc said, Development is the biggest issue. 19.11 per cent said, Inflation was the biggest issue. 14.42 pc said, Hindutva was the biggest issue, while 7.23 pc said, Corruption was the biggest issue. 
    •  46.83 pc respondents rated Shivraj Singh Chouhan’s performance on a scale between 8 and 10, while 40.67 per cent rated him on a scale between 0 and 4.  12.5 per cent rated his performance on a scale between 5 and 7. 
    •  37 per cent respondents said, they were fully satisfied with the work done by their MLA in the last five years, while 32.12 per cent said they were fully dissatisfied. 
    •  Asked which government performed better in MP, 42.43 pc said BJP government, while 37.02 per cent said Congress government.
    •  On a question asked from women voters only, 47.3 per cent women said, Chouhan’s Ladli Behna Yojana will have an impact on the election, while 36.5 per cent said ‘No’.
    •  Asked which party’s welfare scheme (guarantees) was good, 43.62 per cent opted for BJP while 42.15 pc opted for Congress. 
    •  44.75 per cent voters said they were dissatisfied with the state government’s handling of Covid pandemic crisis, while 35.61 per cent voters said, they were satisfied. 
    •  A whopping 53.25 per cent respondents said, BJP’s decision to field central ministers and MPs in election will give advantage to the party, while 37.18 per cent said, No.

    The opinion poll survey was carried out by CNX among 11,500 respondents (5,758 males and 5,742 females) across 115 randomly selected constituencies. The respondents were selected randomly for a sample population encompassing diverse professions, including cobblers, tailors, barbers, daily wage labourers, petty shopkeepers, migrant labourers, registered medical practitioners, auto and taxi drivers, real estate dealers, among others. The age group ranged from 18 to 60 years old.

    Mumbai: With 27 weeks of uninterrupted domination, CNN-News18 India has solidified its position as the industry leader. As per the recent Barc data for week 39 to week 42, CNN-News18 now accounts for more market share than Times Now and India Today combined.

    According to Barc data (market share, TG: 2+, India, Wk 42, All Day 24 hrs), CNN-News18 accounts for 33.7 per cent , while Republic TV, Times Now, and India Today account for 29.4 per cent, 26.9 per cent , and 5.8 per cent , respectively.

    CNN-News18 has also performed exceptionally well in the highly competitive prime time slot of 6 p.m. to 11 p.m.

    According to Barc data (market share per cent, 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., TG:15+AB, India Wk 39 to 42, Monday to Friday), CNN-News18 received 32.2 per cent, with Republic TV and Times Now fighting for second place with 28.9 per cent and 25.9 per cent market share, respectively.

    Meanwhile, India Today remained at the number four position with an 8.9 per cent market share in the category.

    Even on the digital front, the News18 brands have gained traction, with views steadily increasing across YouTube and other social media platforms. 

    News18 has made significant investments in technology and editorial resources to ensure that its content and presentation remain unique to the audience and far ahead of the competition.

    Devendra Nagle joins edtech platform RISE as VP of marketing

    Mumbai: RISE, the edtech platform, has announced the appointment of Devendra Nagle as the company’s vice president of marketing, in a major boost to its leadership group. Incidentally, this is the first leadership hire outside of the founding team.

    Prior to joining RISE, Nagle was associate vice president at the Internet and Mobile Association of India, where he spearheaded digital advertising and venture capital committees.

    Earlier, he had conceptualised and created award-winning IPs in the startup space. He brings 10+ years of extensive experience in marketing across various sectors like media, education, and startups. Nagle had earlier worked at Google, India Today, and Hindustan Times, where he was responsible for leading various marketing initiatives. He holds a B.Tech degree in computer science and an MBA from IIM Bangalore.

    In his role at RISE, Devendra will be responsible for scaling the brand’s industry-led and localised programmes, alongside supporting RISE’s vision to help colleges and universities expand their offerings by focusing on creating new digital credentials and degree programmes with industry-led training. His mandate would be to lead all marketing initiatives for RISE.

    Commenting on the appointment, Nagle said, “With technology as an enabler, there is tremendous scope in the edtech sector across the world. RISE is leading the way in the ed-tech space through a tech-facing strategy that embraces innovation and is focusing on growing its operations rapidly. I am excited to be onboard this rocket ship and look forward to working with Gaurav Bhatia and the team.”

    RISE offers various postgraduate and professional certification courses. Each course is affordable and, crucially, is curated and taught by industry experts, thus increasing the chances of employability. The platform also aims to help colleges and universities expand and add digital content to their offerings, and benefit from the hybrid mode of imparting education.

    RISE CEO Gaurav Bhatia believes Devendra’s varied and vast experience will add to the company’s knowhow.
