  • Snickers brings together Rekha and Urmila Matondkar in its new TVC

MUMBAI: Mars International India‘s chocolate brand Snickers has launched its new television campaign (TVC) featuring Rekha and Urmila Matondkar.

Directed by Bollywood director Imtiaz Ali, the new TVC is an adaptation of the global campaign ‘You‘re Not You When You Are Hungry‘.

It is currently on air across 56 television channels and nine languages.

Developed by BBDO India, the TVC is based on the concept, which was developed behind universal insights that hunger makes a person weak and behaves differently, ultimately affecting the people around us and our performances. Rekha portrays the hunger state ‘meanness‘ and joins a list of international celebrities including Betty White, Joe Pesci, Aretha Franklin, Liza Minnelli and Joan Collins.

This concept YNYWYH has run in 56 countries with local celebrities.

Mars International India MD Chocolate Business MV Natarajan said, “What the commercial is saying is that when you‘re hungry you‘re not on your game and that Snickers is the bar of substance that sorts you out to be yourself. The campaign has enjoyed huge success internationally and we are optimistic that we will get positive response in India too.”

The opening of the TVC shows four boys who are going in a car to play cricket. They are speaking in their colloquial language and out of those four, one of them is Rekha. The other boys are talking to her as if she is a boy. The fact is that the boy is hungry and thus, starts behaving like a Diva‘. ‘Kyunki hunger Acche Acchon Ko Badal Deta Hai‘. So, he rips into the Snickers bar on his friend‘s suggestion and comes back to being himself.

Later, when they reach the cricket ground, the driver is hungry and hence, starts throwing tantrums. This role is played by Urmila. So the boys take out one more Snickers for him.

Therefore, the theme of the ad is that you are not yourself when you are hungry. One should eat Snickers when hungry to refuel in-between meals.

  • Rekha to endorse Snickers

MUMBAI: Snickers, a brand of Mars International India, is launching a new ad campaign featuring Bollywood actor Rekha.

Snickers‘ upcoming television commercial is a global campaign ‘You‘re Not You When You Are Hungry‘.

The company said in an official statement, “The TVC idea is conceptualised from the insight that hunger has physical, emotional and psychological side effects on us – it not only makes us physically weak, dizzy, tired and lifeless, but also makes us irritable, angry, whiny, grumpy, loopy, scatty and unable to concentrate. In a nutshell, we are not quite ourselves when we‘re hungry. The TVC packs all the humour and refreshing candor of the Snickers brand and at the same time keeps very much to the Indian idiom and ethos.”

Titled ‘Captain Rekha‘, the campaign will be created by RK Swamy BBDO brand while it will be directed by Imtiaz Ali.

Headquartered in Mount Olive, New Jersey, U.S., Mars Chocolate has thirty-four brands including M&M‘S, Snickers, Dove/Galaxy, Mars/Milky Way and Twix.

Imtiaz Ali to present Dekh Indian Circus

MUMBAI: Director Imtiaz Ali is set to present Mangesh Hadawale‘s upcoming film, Dekh Indian Circus. This is the first time that the Jab We Met director is presenting a film he isn‘t directly involved in.

The film has already won the ‘Best Picture‘ award at the Busan Film Festival and the noted director hopes that it will find favour with viewers in India.

Dekh Indian Circus is the heartwarming tale of a mother taking her children to the circus. “After watching the film, I realised that it should reach the maximum audience. It‘s the most colorful way of showing the goings on an Indian village. It is meaningful as well as an entertaining film,” said Ali.

“When you look at Indian films these days, most of them are very urban. It‘s ironic because the maximum population lives in villages. This film is set in a small village in the outskirts of Jaisalmer, representing the life there through extraordinary performances and stunning visuals,” he added.

The film is Hadawale‘s second after his debut directorial Tingya that won the National Film Award in the ‘Best Child Artist‘ category.

  • UTV Motion Pictures ties up with Imtiaz Ali for Korean film remake

UTV Motion Pictures ties up with Imtiaz Ali for Korean film remake

MUMBAI: UTV Motion Pictures has decided to associate itself with director Imtiaz Ali (Rockstar fame) as co-producer for the official Hindi remake of the 2009 South Korean romantic action comedy, My Girlfriend is an Agent (MGIAA).

The film tells an endearing story of two spies, once in love but now at each other’s throats, on a mission to stop a Russian crime group from stealing an advanced chemical weapon.

The project also marks mark Ali’s wife, Preety Ali‘s foray into film production with her recently set up production house, PI Films. Another first of the film is that Bosco from the famous Bosco-Caesar duo debuts as the director of the film.

UTV Motion Pictures CEO Siddharth Roy Kapur said, "It’s great to be collaborating with Imtiaz, Preety and Bosco on this really exciting project. From the day our team at UTV saw MGIAA, we knew it was a film we just had to remake in Hindi. The characters of the two main leads are so endearing and the situations they find themselves in so hilarious, that it’s the perfect recipe for an action rom-com! We showed the film to Imtiaz and he felt just the same. Getting Bosco on board to helm the project puts it in the perfect zone creatively and the whole team is now raring to go."

Commented Ali, “It is very exciting. It seems like full on fun – both the film and the making. A crazy, high energy no holds barred roller coaster with this highly huggable hero and highly hyper heroine. Most exciting for me is that Bosco is directing it. I don’t think many people know how to put fun on screen like Bosco. And I’m there to add to the chaos and trouble PI Films and UTV at every step of the making!”

Incidentally, My Girlfriend is an Agent has set new box office records in South Korea, opening at number one at the box office and staying in the top ten for nine consecutive weeks.
