Riding on the reach and success of Side Hero, Eros Now set to bring Season 2 of the comedy series

MUMBAI: Eros Now, the cutting-edge digital over-the-top (OTT) South Asian entertainment platform owned by Eros International Plc (NYSE: EROS) (“Eros”), a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment, recently released their first original series Side Hero directed by Rohan Sippy on September 24th. The eight-episode series received an overwhelming response from audiences prompting the OTT platform to announce the second season of Side Hero.

Enjoying tremendous popularity with a rating of 8.6 on IMDB as well as the number one position on Top Hindi Movies and Shows section within a week of its release on IMDB over other recently released movies during the same period such as Sui Dhaaga, the self-deprecatory comedy based on the life of actor Kunaal Roy Kapur stood firm ground against competition. The trailer of the series itself, clocked more than 10 million online views within a period of a week, making it one of the most watched trailers of any Indian Original Series. Most of its assets prior to the series’ launch on Eros Now including the poster and trailer, saw the highest level of engagement as well as trended on social media.

Interestingly, Side Hero lent to a greater contribution of viewership from larger screens with twice the amount viewership from premium subscription users as compared to basic users. The build up to the series tracked very well with viewers in 75 countries across the world sampling Side Hero episodes in the first week of launch itself. Further elaborating on the consumption pattern, Eros Now revealed the series enjoys 85% viewership in the age bracket of 18-24 (male & female) lending to an endemic viewership growth in the core target audience for the show.

Recently, Eros Now was awarded the ‘Best Web-Series’ for Side Hero along with Kunaal Roy Kapur bagging the award for Best Actor at the Streaming Awards hosted by Digital Hash in October 2018, adding another feather to the success of Side Hero series.

Side Hero Season 2 will reprise the same cast and will be directed by Rohan Sippy. Season 2 is slated for release in 2019. The series stars Kunaal Roy Kapur, Gauhar Khan, Arjun Kanungo and Gopal Dutt. All episodes are streaming and available for binge viewing for INR 49 and INR 99 per month on Eros Now.

ZEE5’s original web series, Zero KMS, gains traction

MUMBAI: Zero KMS, the original offering from India’s most diversified OTT platform for language ZEE5, has already become the talk of the town since its launch six days ago. Marking the debut of actor Naseeruddin Shah in the digital space, this hard-hitting action packed thriller series has garnered a rating of a staggering 9.6 on IMDB (Internet Movie Database).

Directed by Q (Qaushiq Mukherjee), the web series forces the viewers to take notice of issues that are plaguing the society. Missing people, flesh trade and drug abuse some of the subjects tackled in the series.

Naseeruddin Shah (Guru) and Tanmay Dhanania (Arjun) are the central characters of this web series. Set in Goa, Zero KMS, in a nutshell, is about Arjun fighting to find justice against heinous crimes.

Commenting on the show, the director stated, “I am very excited that the audience likes Zero KMS. It’s encouraging to see that people are connecting with a different kind of narrative.”

This thriller series can be binge watched in six languages- Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Malayalam, and Telugu and Tamil. With a slate of 20 originals to be launched in 2018, the platform will have more than 90 shows by the end of March 2019.

AXN, Home to Billions, Brings Back S1&2 of the powerhouse drama series on popular demand

Google brings user-generated movie and TV show reviews on app, mobile and web to India

MUMBAI: Google recently added a feature which now allows contribution of users’ movie and television reviews within Google search results – a move towards the potential implementation of IMDB-like reviews service or something similar to its own ‘Rotten Tomatoes’. Google said, for the time being, it was only available on mobile, web and the Google app in India in the English language.

Last year, the search giant had brought in like and dislike buttons on TV shows and movie results cards, Techcrunch reported.

The users’ reviews are automatically filtered for any inappropriate content through Google’s system. After the user submits it, the reviews themselves will then appear in the Knowledge Panel in search results on Google.in.

This is an example of Google starting Google Search results to include user-generated content. Google had earlier brought in a feature called “Posts on Google” that permitted local businesses the ability to publish their products, events and services on Google Search. Celebrities, movie studios, sports leagues and museums could also use this feature.

Google says the new reviews feature is not using technology similar to ‘Posts on Google.’ Google did not confirm plans to expand its reviews product in other markets.

MUMBAI: Tom Cruise’s intense performance in the movie ‘Edge ofTomorrow’ as a soldier, who fights aliens, will air on MOVIES NOW and MOVIES NOW HD on Sunday, July 17, 2016 at 9PM. Tom Cruise, who plays Major William Cage, is forced to fight a war against an alien race.
