    53rd IFFI: 12 international and 3 India films to compete for Golden Peacock Award

    Mumbai: The 53rd edition of the International Film Festival of India is all set to begin from 20 to 28 November in Goa. During the festival, 15 films will compete for the coveted Golden Peacock at IFFI. The entertainment-packed line-up comprises 12 international and three Indian films that represent emerging trends in the aesthetics and politics of art.

    Since the very first Golden Peacock was awarded in the third edition of IFFI, the prize has been among the most sought-after film awards in Asia.

    The jury tasked with the impossible job of picking a winner this year comprises of Israeli writer and film director Nadav Lapid, American producer Jinko Gotoh, French film editor Pascale Chavance, French documentary filmmaker, film critic, and journalist Javier Angulo Barturen, and India’s very own film director Sudipto Sen.

    The 12 international films include Perfect Number, Red Shoes, A Minor, No End, Mediterranean Fever, When the waves are gone, I have Electric Dreams, Cold as Marble, The Line, Seven Dogs, Maariya: The Ocean Angel, and Nezouh.

    And in the thick of the competition this year, the three Indian movies that are running for this prominent award are The Kashmir Files, The Storyteller, and Kurangu Pedal.

    Bong beauty Paoli Dam set to rule IFFI GOA

    MUMBAI: Paoli Dam, who made a sensational debut with Hate Story, is all set to dominate at IIFI GOA 2013 that kicked off recently. Paoli Dam is the only actress at IIFI, whose two films Baga Beach by the highly acclaimed director Laxmikant Shetgaonkar, and Ajana Batash directed by two times National Award winning director Anjan Das are a part of the festival.

     

    Paoli had met Laxmikant Shetgaokar at the Cannes Film Festival in 2011, and later when she heard Baga Beach’s script, she liked it and thought that it would be a unique experience working in a Konkani film, especially with a highly acclaimed director.

     

    Paoli always researches her character well and has learnt the discipline while acting with stalwarts like Rituparno Ghosh and Gautam Ghose. Paoli feels that when recognition follows hard work, it is a fulfilling experience.

    Coffin Maker to compete at International Competition at IFFI GOA

    MUMBAI: Nasseruddin Shah’s Coffin Maker, produced by Bharat and Ambika Vijan, Shree Narayan Studios, has trumped all competition and is selected to compete in the main section in the International Competition at IIFI GOA.

     

    The film that was earlier selected for the Indian Panaroma section at IFFI will compete with global films in the International competition section like A Place in Heaven by Yassi Madmony (Israel), Beatriz’s War by Bety Reis, Luigi Acquisto (East Timor-Australia), Brothers. The Final Confession by Victoria Trofimenko (Ukraine), Hush…Girls Don’t Scream by Pouran Derakhshandeh (Iran, In Hiding by Jan Kidawa-Blonski (Poland), My Sweet Pepper Land by Hiner Saleem (France-Germany-Iraq) and Like Father, Like Son by Hirokazu Koreeda (Japan) among others.

     

    Coffin Maker is a life changing film that will resonate and connect globally with its theme. The film exemplifies the genius and the exceptional talent of Nasseruddin as Anton Gomes, yet again.

    China expected to be principal guest country at IFFI Goa

    NEW DELHI: Chinese cinema is expected to be given the pride of place at the International Film Festival of India in Goa in November this year.

    This emerged during talks between Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari and Chinese Minister of State Administration for Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Cai Fuchao.

    The two Ministers had delegation level talks covering a wide range of subjects in the Information and Broadcasting sector.

    During the discussions, it was proposed to accord the status of Principal Guest Country to China during IFFI 2014. The International Film Festival of India is scheduled to be held from 20 to 30 November. The Chinese side may consider facilitating participation of prominent Chinese films with film personalities in the ‘Competition’ and ‘Cinemas of the World‘ sections of the festival. Both sides could consider cooperation between Film and Television Institutes of the two countries through exchange programmes of students and faculty”, Tewari added.

    It was also agreed that a roadmap should be outlined to enhance bilateral cooperation in critical sectors of the Films and Broadcasting. It was reiterated that such a roadmap would enable enhancing people to people contact between the two countries.

    During the discussions Tewari and Cai Fuchao were assisted by senior officials belonging to the Information & Broadcasting and SAPPRFT from the Chinese side. Both sides agreed to enhance cooperation and capacity building between personnel of the public broadcasters in both countries, strengthen cultural exchange programmes related to convening of Film Festivals and enhance exchange between the private film industries of both countries.

    One of the key highlights of the discussion was the decision to enhance student exchange programme between Film Institutes of India and the Beijing Films School. Both sides agreed that the hosting of the Chinese Film Festival in Delhi was an important step to enhance the role and relevance of films between the people of both countries. Both sides also agreed to work out the modalities for strengthening capacity building of technical personnel of Broadcasting Sector. Another critical area of discussion pertained to exploring the possibility of Co-production agreements between India and China in the audio visual sector.
