    DEN Networks appoints Rajendra Hingwala as additional independent director

    MUMBAI: As per the recommendations of nomination and remuneration committee, the board of directors of DEN Networks has approved the appointment of Rajendra Dwarkadas Hingwala as an additional independent director of the company.

    According to the company's BSE filing, Hingwala has been named as a director for a period of three consecutive years with effect from 21 December 2019 to 20 December 2022.

    Hingwala is a chartered accountant and fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). He worked as director/ partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers Pvt Ltd (PWC) and retired therefrom after 38 years of service.

    “Hingwala is neither related to any director of the company, nor debarred from holding the office of director by virtue of any Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) order or any other such authority,” the press statement published on the bourses mentioned.

    Hingwala’s area of work included advising. He has an expertise on various provisions of double taxation avoidance agreements, direct and indirect tax implications of acquiring undertakings/ companies, structuring of business transactions, compliance of tax laws including litigation support and structuring of investment by foreign entities in India through various investment routes.

    Pankaj Vasani wins ICAI’s “chief financial officer of the year” award 2018

    MUMBAI: Publicis Groupe’s Executive President & CFO, South Asia, Pankaj Vasani, has been awarded “CA CFO of the Year in the Media & Entertainment Sector” by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) at the 12th ICAI’s Leaders & Business Excellence Awards held in Mumbai on 19 January.

    Pankaj received his award from Shri. Vijay Goel, Hon’ble Union Minister of State for parliamentary Affairs, CA. Naveen Gupta – President ICAI, CA, Dhiraj K. Khandelwal – Chairman Committee for Members in Industry & Business, and other key officer bearers of ICAI.

    The awards instituted by ICAI acknowledges the Chartered Accountants (CAs) in the industry who have demonstrated excellence in the way they conduct their profession, are exemplary role models in the industry, have created value to their company's stakeholders on a sustainable basis and are outstanding contributors to the society.

    On receiving the award, Pankaj said, “I'm truly and honestly thrilled to be here today, and sincerely grateful to the entire jury for the unique distinction. I might have done well at my job, but this recognition accorded by the Institute, which I greatly appreciate and accept with all humility and deep gratitude, comes in consequence of a lot of other people's work. I, therefore, accept this award on behalf of my family and friends for always being there and encouraging me, my mentors for believing in me and all my colleagues who I’ve worked in the past and work with at the Publicis Groupe, who made this moment, happen. This award is a compliment, an inspiration and cognisance that I'm on my journey to become a better professional, and a person of greater social significance.”

    The prestigious ICAI awards are given in various categories (i) CA Business Achiever (Chairman/CEO) (ii) CA Chief Financial Officer and (iii) CA Professional Achiever. The top five nominations in each category are short listed by the Nomination Committee, which then sends it to the Jury for final selection. The Jury consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian Industry, leading businessmen, representative of national trade bodies, regulators, academicians, heads of universities, past presidents of ICAI and other well-known personalities, then decides on the final winner of the awards. This year’s distinguished Jury was chaired by Shri Keki Mistry, Vice Chairman and CEO, HDFC. 

    The winners were chosen from various industries such as manufacturing sector, financial sector, services sector, information technology, media and entertainment sector, telecom sector, healthcare sector, public sector, infrastructure and construction.

    MUMBAI: Mr. Avnindra Mohan, President – Legal & Regulatory Affairs, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd has been selected as the winner of the prestigious award in the category “CA Distinguished Achiever-2017” for exceptional performances and achievements by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. In a glittering award ceremony held on 19th January 2018 at Nehru Centre, Worli, Mumbai, Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry presented the said award to Mr. Mohan in the presence of CA Nilesh Vikamsey – President of ICAI and CA Naveen N.D. Gupta, Vice President of ICAI.

    Speaking on the occasion Shri Suresh Prabhu said that Indian economy is on a fast track growth path and is likely to be of the size 5 trillion dollar in the near future. Dwelling further he pointed out that out of this 5 trillion dollar, approx. 60% i.e. 3 trillion dollar is likely to be the share of service sector and that Chartered Accountants can play a key role in achieving the same. He urged the CA fraternity to be a part of this growth story by  providing its inputs and expertise in policy making and ensuring regulatory compliances, thereby contributing and catalyzing the entire development process. 

    The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is the apex body of Chartered Accountants in India.  Every year the institute awards Chartered Accountants who excel in their respective fields.  The awardee(s) are selected by a high profile independent jury. This year the jury was headed by Mr. Ajay Piramal, the noted industrialist and consisted of various other eminent persons.

    An alumni of IIM-Kozhikode, Mr. Mohan is a Chartered Accountant, Law Graduate (LLB), PGDBM & Chartered Financial Analyst. In a career spanning over 34 years, he has served with various reputed companies and multi-national organizations. He is actively interacting with various Trade bodies, Associations such as FICCI, ASSOCHAM, etc., Regulatory Authorities (TRAI) & Ministries viz. Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Commerce (DIPP) on various industry-related issues such as Content Piracy, Broadcasting Treaties, IPRs, Copyrights, Content Code for Broadcasters, International Taxation, etc. He has been representing Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) in the discussions relating to WIPO & WTO treaties for Broadcasting Sector. He is also a member of Legal Committee of Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF).
