    IBN7’s new programming gamble

MUMBAI: Just after 50 days of joining IBN7 as the consulting editor, Prabal Pratap Singh has high hopes from the channel’s two new shows. The two shows, namely Aar Paar and Super Crime Time, were already in discussion with Network 18 chief executive officer, news, and group editor-in-chief Rahul Joshi and his team before Singh rejoined. “After I stepped in as the consulting editor of the channel, we finalised everything on both these shows,” said Singh.

Disrupting the routine timings of debate shows on news channels, debate show Aar Paar will air every Monday-Friday from 7 to 8 pm. Motive: to utilise the 7 pm time slot for a debates on a news channel. It aims at catering to the Hindi markets at large. Anchored by Amish Devgan, the show will pick topics that have a deeper connect with the common man. It will follow the normal style of debates with multiple guests on-screen discussing the subject and will ask tough questions to those in positions of power and hold them accountable.

The channel has developed different teams for various roles like scripting, production, etc. Telecasted live, the show will not shy away from taking positions on issues that the viewers relate to strongly. Amish will engage directly with viewers through various social platforms to add an element of interactivity to the show.

“Amish’s personality is unique and I would appreciate if he can retain his style. Having him on board is an achievement for us. He will conduct the debates in his own manner. I don’t think an anchor has to shout for attracting viewers,” asserted Singh.

Debate shows on news channel are pretty common these days. But what if news channels not only report crime news but also recreate the crime scene? – asks the channel as it reinvents the category with Super Crime Time.

Crime as a topic has proved to be an important genre for the general entertainment space. Re-constructing crime incidents to spread awareness about the incident flagged off through the news channels with shows like Sansani on ABP News and Vardaat on Aaj Tak. The news channels have dramatic anchors for these shows to boost ratings.

In a move to revive this space, IBN7’s other show called Super Crime Time will be a heady mix of crime, drama, mystery and investigation. The show will not only report crime news from various parts of the country but also feature one major incident of the day by recreating the crime scene, piece by piece, trying to uncover its mystery. Airing 7 days a week between, the first half (10-10:30pm) will reports crime stories while the second half (10:30-11pm) will dramatise the details of crime place. On Saturdays, the programming will showcase some of the most infamous love stories which involve misconduct and bloodshed. The show will also have plenty visual effects.

Digvijay will spread out the message of ‘Apna Khayal Rakhna’ through this show. With 24 scenes already in place, the channel has a huge database of crime stories in bank. “The prime time for Hindi markets has now extended to 11 pm. We will recreate few concepts due to lack of visual support. We hope these shows will boost our viewership,” points out Singh.

The show has been directed by the editor of the channel Manoj Kumar Singh. The channel has associated students, theater artists, etc to enact the various scenes.

IBN7 would keep its eyes strained on its ratings in the couple of weeks to see how the new programming gamble is fairing.

  • IBN7 launches entertainment show titled ‘Bhabhi Tera Devar Deewana’

IBN7 launches entertainment show titled ‘Bhabhi Tera Devar Deewana’

MUMBAI: Entertainment news is an important content area for news television. There are several shows in the Hindi News genre that garner high ratings and have a loyal viewership especially amongst female audiences.

The show starts from today and airs every Monday to Friday at 2 pm.

With a view to disrupt this space, IBN7 will launch a new show Bhabhi Tera Devar Deewana. Typically, most shows in this space are anchored and driven by female anchors who bring their perspective on the latest happenings from the world of television. In order to break away from this format, IBN7 will introduce a unique character – the devar who will look at the twists and turns of the most popular TV shows from a distinctly male perspective. Delving into the lives of the television celebrities, the devar will also aim to become an inseparable part of viewers’ lives. From characters’ on and off screen persona, and various events, to on-location shoots and highlights of TV serials, the desh ka devar will take the viewers on a captivating journey bringing them closer to understand their favourite characters better.

The show will, over time, introduce interesting segments like Khabri Bhabhi bringing the latest gossips from the world of TV; Aaj Ka Gyaan, a do good, feel good message from a TV star; Isko Dekha Kya – latest social media posts from stars; Trade Report- interviews of CEOs and programming heads and many more elements that will give the show a unique flavour.

  • IBN7 to enter entertainment space with ‘Bhabhi Tera Devar Deewana’ from 23 May

IBN7 to enter entertainment space with ‘Bhabhi Tera Devar Deewana’ from 23 May

MUMBAI: The role of a news channel in today’s era is not just limited to reporting events accurately as they happen. Many channels have now started to break free from this ideology and have entered the entertainment space with various programmes. One such player invading into this space is IBN7. The channel is all geared up to air a unique entertainment show titled Bhabhi Tera Devar Deewana in their afternoon slot every weekday. The show will attract viewers through aspirational stories and will have different segments.

BTDD has been created internally and at the helm of everything from the idea to planning to execution to conceiving is the feature editor of the channel Manoj Kumar Singh.

Starting from 23 May at 2 pm, the 60 minute long show will be narrated from the unique perspective of a male character unlike the other majority of the shows which have female anchors.  Differentiating from others, the channel will have a male host who will be referred as ‘desh ka devar’. With a vision to supply new appetite to the viewers, the channel is aimed at replacing TV news with an entertaining ‘tadkedaar’ content.

“Every viewer is important for us. News content consumption slows down during noon and this is the ideal time to show different aspects of TV industry. The show has been planned and executed after a period of 5 months. We cannot reveal the name of the anchor as our USP is the Desh ka Devar. We are extremely confident about this show”, says IBN7 deputy managing editor Sumit Awasthi.

“BTDD is the brainchild of Manoj. He and the team has worked hard behind this show which the audience will surely enjoy as it hits the tv sets”, adds Awasthi.

The channel has not locked any deals with advertisers yet and is in talks with various brands “There are several on-going conversations with potential advertisers from across various sectors. We can clearly discern significant interest in the show amongst advertisers, amongst the trade etc., given that what we are trying to do is disrupt how entertainment news is typically shown”, he further adds.

Targeting the female audience at large, the channel has planned an extensive marketing plan to push the show. Apart from the various promos, the channel also circulates 20-25 teasers every day which stars A-list TV actors who also are their brand ambassadors. The actors negate the ‘desh ka devar’ character creating buzz amongst the audiences.

The show will also be promoted on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc., and will also be pushed on the News18 website.

“We will effectively utilize and leverage our Network which we believe will help us establish the show. Additionally we will use an effective mix of digital, OOH and other media to maximize the reach of the show”, concludes Awasthi.
