    Hyundai drives hope in India’s fight against cancer

    MUMBAI: Turning compassion into action, Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) is steering India toward a healthier tomorrow through its flagship initiative, Hyundai Hope for Cancer, launched in collaboration with IIT Madras. On National Cancer Awareness Day, HMIF announced significant progress, with over 11,000 screenings, 1,104 cancer tissue samples collected, and the creation of India’s first open-access cancer genome database, the Bharat Cancer Genome Atlas (BCGA).

    Launched in September 2025, the initiative represents a landmark in paediatric cancer research and prevention. The Hyundai Centre for cancer genomics at IIT Madras serves as the nerve centre of this effort, housing India’s first community-based Cancer Tissue Biobank and advancing breakthroughs in personalised oncology.

    “With Hyundai Hope for Cancer, we aim to build a future where every citizen has access to timely and dignified cancer care,” said HMIL AVP and vertical head – corporate affairs, corporate communication & social Puneet Anand. “With a social impact investment of Rs 56 crore, including a dedicated Rs 3 crore cancer care fund, Hyundai is driving equitable access to early detection, treatment, and research, already touching over 11,000 lives.”

    So far, 109 screening camps have been held across Tamil Nadu, reaching 11,095 individuals and identifying 448 positive cases referred for advanced care. The initiative also conducted HPV vaccinations for 525 girls in partnership with Karkinos Healthcare and CRRT, and completed whole genome sequencing for 528 paediatric leukaemia cases.

    Beyond research, Hyundai’s mission is hands-on, a mobile cancer screening vehicle has already covered 17 districts in Tamil Nadu, with expansion to Maharashtra and Haryana planned next year. Over the next four years, the initiative aims to conduct 225 plus awareness and screening camps, reaching 1.27 lakh individuals and vaccinating 5,000 plus girls against HPV.

    Mumbai: Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL) in partnership with NDTV launched ‘Samarth’ initiative for the awareness and enabling of people with disabilities in India. The initiative is aligned with Hyundai’s vision of ‘Progress for Humanity’ that aims to enable an inclusive, progressive world through the power of mobility. Through this initiative, Hyundai and NDTV aim to help create a more aware and sensitised society towards people with disabilities.

    With up to 26.8 million differently abled people in India, Hyundai understood the need for creating awareness in the society towards disabilities. With the launch of ‘Samarth’, Hyundai Motor India is India’s first automobile company to launch an inclusive mobility project at a mass scale. With technology, partnerships, product innovations, and storytelling, ‘Samarth’ aims to turn the world into a level-playing field for all.

    Hyundai Motor India Foundation has partnered with GoSports Foundation to support Para-athletes & with Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled to provide all-rounded support to people with disabilities

    Special thanks to the Wheeling Happiness Foundation who will facilitate six para-athletes to be supported by Hyundai in all their training and nourishment needs. The six select para-athletes are – Sheetal Devi, a para-archer, who is the reigning World Champion in Women’s Para-archery, Prachi Yadav, an award winning Para Canoer who won a gold and silver in women’s canoeing in the Women’s VL2 category at the Asian Para Games 2023, Abhishek Chamoli, A gold medalist in Para-Athletics Javelin & Shotput, Yogesh Kathuniya, Discus Throw champion from the 2020 Summer Paralympics, Simran Sharma, a national medal winning Para-shooter, and Lakshmi Jadala, an intellectually challenged lawn tennis player selected for the upcoming Australian Open.

    Commenting on the initiative, HMIL COO Tarun Garg said, “Aligning with Hyundai’s global commitment to ‘Progress for Humanity,’ we proudly unveil ‘Samarth’ in partnership with NDTV. This initiative focuses on empowering individuals with disabilities while drawing inspiration from Para-athletes. Through integration of technology, strategic partnerships, innovative product developments and compelling storytelling, ‘Samarth by Hyundai’ seeks to create an inclusive space for all. This endeavor is not just about individual empowerment alone; it is a collective step toward igniting a broader societal transformation, fostering inclusivity and creating equal opportunities for everyone.”

    Speaking at the launch of the new initiative, NDTV Ltd director and AMG Media Network CEO & editor-in-chief Sanjay Pugalia said, “NDTV is proud to partner with this initiative dedicated to fostering inclusivity, reshaping perceptions, and improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities. We commit to building a more aware and inclusive society for the differently abled, emphasising abilities over disabilities.”

    The event was graced by the distinguished presence of notable personalities including Smriti Irani (Union Minister for Women and Child Development), Hardeep Singh Puri (Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs), Virendra Kumar (Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment), Nitin Gadkari (Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways), Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu (Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh), and Hemant Soren (Chief Minister of Jharkhand).

    Futhermore, the gathering was enriched by the presence of eminent individuals such as Padma Shri Dr Deepa Malik, President Paralympic Committee of India; Dr. Satendra Singh, Professor in the Department of Physiology at UCMS, GTB Hospital Delhi, and Co-chair of the International Council for Disability Inclusion in MedEd; Virali Modi, a Disability Rights Advocate and the Founder of #MyTrainToo, India’s pioneering wheelchair-using model; Tiffany Brar, another distinguished Disability Rights Advocate and Founder of the Jyothirgamaya Foundation; and Arman Ali, the esteemed Executive Director of the National Centre for Promotion of Employment for Disabled People (NCPEDP).

    For the next one year, HMIL and NDTV will advocate for inclusivity, reshape perceptions, and elevate the overall quality of life for individuals with disabilities.

    Mumbai: Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF), the CSR arm of Hyundai Motor India Ltd.,today announced a relief support amounting to Rs three crores to support communities affected by Michaung cyclone in Tamil Nadu. The Company’s onsite teams are working along with state government authorities to deliver emergency relief, including food, water, shelter, medical assistance and other essential commodities to affected communities.

    Commenting on HMIF’s support to the residents of Tamil Nadu, Hyundai Motor India Ltd. MD & CEO Un Soo Kim said, “Hyundai Motor India stands in solidarity with people of Tamil Nadu in these testing times. As a reflection of our global vision – Progress for Humanity – we are committed to alleviate the challenges faced by communities during times such as these. We have contributed INR 3 crores towards the relief fund,which will deliver immediate help and bring significant impact to the affected regions & communities. HMIL has also set up a dedicated ‘Relief Task Force’ which will work closely with the District Administrations to offer support to the needy. For our beloved customers, we have ramped up our service support to flood affected customers in Tamil Nadu. We have also deployed a dedicated Emergency Roadside Assistance ServiceTeam to support our customers.”

    HMIF will provide relief kits such as dry rations, tarpaulin, bedsheets and mats. Medical camps will also be set up and HMIF will help clean villages in its efforts to address the after effects.

    For Hyundai Motor India customers, the Company has put-in-place an emergency road assistance team and will offer 50% discount on depreciation amount on insurance claims of cyclone affected vehicles. Also, the company’s service network has been put on a high state of preparedness to attend to an expected higher influx of vehicles.

    Hyundai Motor’s healing touch for 16 Indian villages

    Mumbai: Hyundai Motor India Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Hyundai Motor India Ltd on Saturday released a film on its social outreach initiative Sparsh Sanjeevani. The film captures the journey of its Mobile Medical Van as it travels through rural India to augment the accessibility of healthcare services for people in these regions.   

    “At Hyundai, we believe in driving meaningful change for society through every initiative. The film has suitably chronicled the journey of driving a greater accessibility to quality medical support and healthcare services. We have received a very moving response and hope to continue these efforts as we try to bring greater health and wellbeing to people of rural India,” said Hyundai Motor India Ltd. MD & CEO S S Kim. 

    Despite an extremely challenging environment, the film was shot in Laxmangarh Block of Alwar district in Rajasthan. All characters are local residents of the village and were happy to be part of this film, the company said. A lifesaving Indian medicinal plant popularly known as Sanjeevani is the protagonist of the film. Talking about its legacy of saving lives, the film goes on to chronicle its journey as a Mobile Medical Unit (Sparsh Sanjeevani) that reaches out to the hinterlands and relentlessly serves people and communities at large.

    The medical unit of ‘Mobile Chikitsa’ is managed by Hyundai Motor India Foundation (HMIF) and its partner NGO Wockhardt to cater two villages per day, targeting 25,000 people, with an initial goal of reaching 16 villages.  A qualified MBBS doctor on board is providing free consultation and medicines through the attached pharmacy and the van is equipped with testing facilities for spot diagnostic tests covering blood sugar, BP, Malaria, Dengue etc. Patients are provided with a health card to record their case history and individuals diagnosed with serious ailments will be referred to the nearest government or private hospital.
