‘Ek Villan’ and ‘Holiday’ cash-in at BO

MUMBAI: Bobby Jasoos was much publicised and Vidya Balan was expected to repeat the trick with another film after Dirty Picture and Kahaani. But, the moviegoers did not seem to share the enthusiasm of the makers. The film had a very weak opening day and managing to improve only symbolically as most films do on Saturday and Sunday. The film managed to put together Rs 7.5 crore for the opening weekend.

Lekar Hum Deewana Dil has been rejected outright eking out a poor Rs 1.5 crore for its first weekend.

Ek Villain continues its good run after a strong opening weekend. Appreciated for the story, the performances as well as the musical score, the film takes in a healthy Rs 70.2 crore for its first week and also holding on well through its second weekend.

Humshakals collected Rs 4.3 crore in its second week to take its two week total to Rs 55.9 crore.

Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty has managed a decent Rs 2.5 crore in its fourth week to take its four week total to Rs 110.2 crore.

‘Ek Villain’, ‘Holiday’ shine at BO

MUMBAI: Ek Villan, a reasonably priced film with a limited face value where Riteish Deshmukh plays a negative role and gets a challenging one at that for the first time in his career, springs the biggest surprise with an outstanding opening weekend befitting a big star cast, big budget film. The film was expected to do well and the exhibitors were looking forward to it after a disappointing week with Humshakals. And, Ek Villain more than lives up to the expectations.

The film was expected to do around a decent Rs 11 plus crore or so on its opening day but exceeded all estimates by going over Rs 16 crore and went on to maintain at the same level. The onset of Ramadan three days from the release also helped the weekend to be strong as the holy fasting month of Ramadan sets in on Monday and films are taboo for those observing it. The film has ended its first weekend with a grand figure of Rs 48.5 crore.

Humshakals is poor, especially so considering its huge price tag. Having managed to collect Rs 51.6 crore for its first week and facing a poor second week, the film will be one of the major losers of the year.

Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty has maintained wonderfully in its third week, thanks to poor oppositions and also thanks to its merits to a degree. The film has added Rs 10.65 crore in its third week to take its three week tally to Rs 107.7 crore.

Fugly has added Rs 70 lakh to its total in its second week to take its total to Rs 9.95 crore.

Filmistan has collected Rs 50 lakh in its third week to take its three week total to Rs 5.8 crore.

MUMBAI: Humshakals has been adjudged as one of the worst films of recent times. The critics came down heavily on it especially on social media.

However, thanks to the buzz created on social media people did go out to watch the film out of curiosity and to get a first-hand experience. This has reflected on the film’s collections.

The film has been sold at an unbelievable price considering its face value. All said, it has collected Rs 35.2 crore for its first weekend maintaining even figures all three days despite no opposition.

The film could have gained at least by a crore had the local Delhi-UP distributor not missed out on about 40 single screen cinemas; the condition of the exhibitors signing agreement for October release Bang Bang along with Humshakals was not agreeable to the exhibitors which resulted in these cinemas not screening the Humshakals.

Fugly has not been appreciated and has ended its first week with collections of Rs 9.25 crore.

Chal Bhaag is so poor in its first week as to the very act of releasing the film theatrically has added to the investors’ liability.

Machhli Jal Ki Rani Hai has managed to put together Rs 1.25 crore in its first week.

Holiday – A Soldier Is Never Off Duty makes the most of open run with no oppositions as it rakes up as much as Rs 30.8 crore in its second week to take it close to 100 crore mark. Its unusual high price needs a better third week which seems likely, again. Its two week total is Rs 97.05.

Heropanti has managed a figure of Rs 40 lakh in its fourth week taking its four week total to Rs 52.85 crore.
