Housefull 2 is a fair entertainer

MUMBAI: Housefull 2 can be called a crowded comedy in a sense that the screen is filled with multiple characters of various hues. Towards the end, the film creates a mini India on screen with twelve actors in the main roles portraying Marathi, Gujarati, Sindhi, Punjabi etc roles catering to all parts.

Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor are brothers who don‘t see eye-to-eye but both have one common aim – to find the son of some renowned and wealthy man for their respective daughters.

Mithun Chakraborty is a childhood friend of Boman Irani, an ex-police boss, on whose advice Mithun gives up his dark past, spends time in jail and travels to England to not only make his fortune but also be counted among one of the most respected names there. On the occasion of Chakraborty turning a new leaf, Boman Irani had sought a promise from him that they would turn their friendship into family relationship when their children grow up.

Both Randhir and Rishi Kapoor are both told by match maker Chunkey Pandey that Chakraborty‘s son, Reitesh Deshmukh would be an apt suitor for their daughters, Asin and Jacqueline Fernandez. The brothers vie for Deshmukh while making sure the other does not get the whiff on his intent.

Deshmukh loves Zarine Khan, a model, and is not in a position to tell Mithun Chakraborty. He also has to ward off Randhir Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor‘s daughters. As a result, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Shreyash Talpde each end up posing as Reitesh Deshmukh.

Meanwhile Talpade, Deshmukh‘s friend, is in love with Shahzan Khan. He is humiliated by her father Rishi Kapoor and plans revenge. What follows are the comic situations, romance, songs and dances.

Housefull 2 may not have much by way of a story but it does manage to create some really funny situations.

The film often loses pace in the first half, but manages to hold its own in the later part, which is also shorter. There is not much help from songs but the item number Anarkali…. is well choreographed.

The scenes between Chakraborty, Irani and Malaika Arora are stretched.
What works for the film is its multifaceted cast and the fact that yesteryear stars have been cast as fathers. Economic considerations can be seen in the casting of heroines with all four lacking mass following.

The film has been shot extensively on indoor locations, which helps keep the budget down. The film has just one real action scene with all four heroes involved; it is well executed.

While performances by all male artistes is good, if rated the order it would be Mithun Chakraborty, Akshay Kumar, John Abraham, Reitesh Deshmukh and Shreyash Talpade.

Johny Lever is good but having seen the film with the audience in Uttar Pradesh, it looked like his native Marathi lingo was not going down well with the audience. All four female actors are passable.

Housefull 2 is a fair entertainer and due to its star cast and reasonable opening at multiplexes (the single screens opening is not the same) should be able to sail safe.

HC quashes petition against Housefull 2 song

MUMBAI: On a public interest litigation to delete the song Anarkali Disco Chali from the film Housefull 2 filed by the Anti-Corruption Intelligence Committee stating that the song misrepresents historical characters Salim and Anarkali, a division bench of the Bombay High Court dismissed the public interest litigation.

The judges from the division bench Chief Justice Mohit Shah and Justice Nitin Jamdar directed the petitioner to pursue their representation before the Censor Board. In reply, the committee‘s advocate Shabana Sothe said that the Censor Board of Film Certification previewed the film and despite written representation on 22 March, “they are not ready to listen.”

Advocate SK Shah, who appeared for producer Sajid Nadiadwala, director Sajid Khan and lyricist Samir Anjana, said that the petition was a stunt. He also stated that there was no textbook referring to Anarkali as a historical character.

In their petition, the petitioners had stated that while they were not for stalling the release of the film, they wanted the song or the offending words removed.

Thailand taps Indian filmmakers with beautiful locales

MUMBAI: In its bid to pep up the number of Indian filmmakers shooting their films in Thailand, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is making fresh initiatives. As films are the most effective medium to attract tourism, the TAT is looking at tapping the Indian film industry in a big way.

Said Tourism Authority of Thailand governor Suraphon Svetasreni, “Over the years, the number of Indian films shot in our country have been increasing. Indians prefer shooting at locations like Bangkok and Pattaya. Now these are the times that we introduce them and educate the filmmakers on new avenues that would be best captured in films.” He was hinting at places like Rayong, Phuket, Koh Chang and Krabi.

In this connection, people at TAT plan to showcase new destinations to filmmakers. Incidentally, TAT has been inviting filmmakers of big-budget films like Race 2 and Housefull 2 on one hand while on the other, it has been tapping small budget and regional filmmakers. Out of 100 films shot in Thailand last year, over 44 were Telugu films.

According to TAT marketing and public relations officer Sonalee Vaz, Thailand is a value for money destination and, hence, doesn’t look at giving investment perks.

Release of Housefull 2 preponed to IPL time

MUMBAI: Sajid Nadiadwala has preponed the release of his upcoming film, Housefull 2. The film will now be released by Eros International on 5 April instead of 1 June 2012.

The reason of the postponement came in the wake of YRF’s decision to release their Salman Khan-starrer Ek Tha Tiger on 1 June. Nadiadwala didn’t want a clash with the release of a Salman Khan film. So he thought it better to prepone than postpone the release of Housefull 2.

Housefull 2 is a comedy in true Sajid Khan style and stars Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Riteish Deshmukh along with Asin Thottumkal, Jacqueline Fernandez, Randhir Kapoor, Zarine Khan, Shreyas Talpade, Boman Irani and Chunky Pandey.

Nadiadwala’s move can also be seen as further emboldening of Bollywood’s decision to take the IPL head on. The League goes underway on 4 April. Early last week, Vidhu Vinod Chopra made open his plans to release Ferrari Ki Sawari on 27 April next year.
