Mumbai: Emmy Award-winning late-night talk show host and producer Jimmy Kimmel will return to host the 95th Oscars. This is Hollywood’s most prestigious awards show. The announcements were made by executive producers and showrunners Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner. Kimmel hosted back-to-back broadcasts in 2017 (the 89th Awards) and 2018 (the 90th Awards). Molly McNearney will serve as an executive producer. The 95th Oscars will air live on ABC in the US and in broadcast outlets in over 200 territories worldwide on Sunday, 12 March, 2023. “Having Jimmy Kimmel return to host ‘The Oscars’ is a dream come true. As we see every night on his own show, Jimmy can handle anything with both heart and humor, and we know that he will deliver the laughs and celebratory moments that define the Oscars. We love being the home of Hollywood’s biggest night and can’t wait to toast the success of this year’s cinema and storytelling,” said ABC Entertainment, Hulu, and Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals president Craig Erwich.

“Being invited to host the Oscars for a third time is either a great honour or a trap. Either way, I am grateful to the Academy for asking me so quickly after everyone good said ‘no,’” said Kimmel.

Kimmel serves as host and executive producer of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! and recently signed a three-year contract extension, making him one of the longest-running talk show hosts in American television history.

  • Poor showing by Bollywood, Hollywood drags PVR to a Q2 loss of Rs 71.23 crore

Poor showing by Bollywood, Hollywood drags PVR to a Q2 loss of Rs 71.23 crore

Mumbai: The July-September quarter two 2023 fiscal for PVR was affected mainly because of the poor performance of Hindi movies. Making matters worse was the fact that Hollywood was also disappointed. As a result, it slipped back into a loss of Rs 71.23 crore compared with a consolidated net profit of Rs 53.38 crore in the first quarter of the fiscal ending June 2022. However, the loss was 53 per cent less than the Rs 153.13 crore for the second quarter of the previous fiscal, which had been affected by covid. Admissions and the average ticket price during the second 2023 fiscal quarter were impacted by the weak performance of Bollywood and Hollywood movies.

Its revenue from operations has fallen from Rs 981.40 crore in the first quarter of the fiscal to Rs 686.72 crore in the second quarter. But it is a big improvement from the revenue of Rs 120.32 crore in the second quarter of the previous covid-impacted fiscal.

The quarter, PVR noted, was marked by the continued underperformance of Bollywood movies. With the exception of ‘Brahmastra Part One : Shiva, most of the other big budget Bollywood movies performed below expectations, like Laal Singh Chaddha, Raksha Bandhan, and Liger. Brahmastra Part One : Shiva performed exceedingly well at the box office and emerged as the highest grossing Hindi film post-pandemic for PVR, with a net box office contribution of 19 per cent. The underperformance of Hindi films could be attributed to a number of factors, including films released prior to and during the pandemic that did not resonate well with current consumer tastes; content quality driving performance as opposed to star presence; and negative social media sentiments against certain Bollywood movies and stars.

In Hollywood, the quarter ending September 2022 was the weakest globally in almost two decades, both in terms of the number of movies released and their box office collections. Box office collections for Hollywood movies for PVR dropped by a huge 47 per cent in Q2 FY’23 as compared to Q2 FY’20. Thor: Love and Thunder was the only big tentpole that performed well at the box office as compared to successful tentpoles like The Lion King, Spiderman : Far Away From Home, and Fast and Furious: Hobbs & Shaw in Q2 FY’20.

If there was a silver lining, it was regional. For PVR, the box office contribution of regional movies increased nicely from 28 per cent in Q2 FY’20 to 44 per cent in Q2 FY’23. Movies like Sita Ramam, Kartikeya 2, Thiruchitrambalam, Rocketry, and Vikrant Rona performed well during the quarter ended September 2022.

The multiplex exhibition industry on 23 September celebrated “National Cinema Day.” This was envisaged as an industry-wide initiative to welcome moviegoers back to theatres. More than 11 multiplex chains with 4,000+ screens across India participated in this initiative. Customers were offered movie tickets at Rs 75 and discounts on F&B products. PVR welcomed 6.5 lakh guests on this day, which proved to be the busiest day for it in 2022 and the second highest attended day till date with an occupancy of 80 per cent. PVR added that it is also implementing other initiatives to drive admissions back to cinemas.

PVR added that the current third quarter has started off on a great note with strong responses received to new releases like Ponniyin Selvan – Part 1, Vikram Vedha and Kantara. The content pipeline over the next three months looks extremely promising. It has Bollywood movies that are up for release, like Ram Setu, Cirkus, Thank God, Drishyam 2, Bhediya, Kisi ka Bhai Kisi ki Jaan, Pathan, etc. From Hollywood, it is hoped for a better performance given the tentpoles like Black Adam, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, and Avatar: The Way of Water. From the regional genre, there are Shaakuntalam, Vaathi, Kushi, Honeymoon, Padavettu, etc. lined up for release.

PVR has opened 14 screens across three cinemas in the last quarter (24 screens across five cinemas in H1 FY’23) and is fast ramping up its capex plan to open a total of 110-125 new screens by the end of the current fiscal year.

The announced merger with Inox Leisure, it said, is progressing well. Both the companies have received their respective shareholders and secured creditors’ approval for the proposed scheme of amalgamation. We expect that the NCLT process will be completed in 3–4 months.

PVR chairman & MD Ajay Bijli said, “We remain focused on driving admissions back to our cinemas. India’s love for movies was well demonstrated by the massive success of the ‘National Cinema Day’. I am confident of a full recovery in the business, driven by the robust content lineup for this year and the various initiatives that we are implementing to rekindle the cinema-going habit amongst our loyal patrons. As we celebrate the silver jubilee for PVR this year, we are extremely optimistic that we will continue to set and exceed even greater benchmarks in the years to come.”

PVR’s total income rose to Rs 703.13 crore, compared with Rs 275.21 crore in the same quarter of the previous fiscal. The Ebitda for the quarter was Rs 170 crore, almost double the Rs 86.8 crore for the same quarter in the 2022 fiscal. Its total expenses rose to Rs 813.33 crore, compared with Rs 460.68 crore in the same quarter in the previous fiscal.

PVR gets shareholders approval for Inox merger

Mumbai: Multiplex operator PVR has received shareholders’ approval for its proposed merger with Inox Leisure. 99.9986 per cent voted in favour of the merger. It was defeated by a margin of 0.0014 per cent.

Inox, in a filing, said that a meeting with equity shareholders took place. The company sought approval for the proposed merger. The results of the vote are expected to be announced in the coming days.

The Inox said, “A meeting of the equity shareholders of the company was held on 12 October 2022 at 12 p.m. through video conferencing (VC)/other audio visual means (OA VM) as per the directions issued by the National Company Law Tribunal, Mumbai Bench, vide its order dated 22 August, 2022 and in compliance with the applicable provisions of the Companies Act, 2013 read with rules made thereunder, circular(s) issued by the ministry of corporate affairs and the Securities and Exchange Board of India, for transacting the business mentioned in the notice dated 10 September 2022 convening the said meeting (NCLT Convened Meeting). “

In March, the two companies announced plans for a merger. Inox had said the merger would bring together two of India’s best cinema brands to deliver an unparalleled consumer experience with a network of more than 1,500 screens.

Following the merger, Inox promoters will join the existing PVR promoters as co-promoters of the merged entity. According to the regulatory filing on 27, once the scheme is implemented, the board of directors of the merged company will be reconstituted with a total board strength of 10 members and equal representation on the board for both promoter families with two board seats each.

The company will be called PVR Inox, with the branding of existing screens to continue as PVR and Inox, respectively. Ajay Bijli will be the managing director and Sanjeev Kumar Bijli will be the executive director. Pavan Kumar Jain will be the non-executive chairman of the board.

Shareholders of Inox will get PVR shares in a pre-approved “swap” ratio of 3:10. Three equity shares of PVR can be swapped for 10 of Inox. Inox will have a 16.66 per cent stake and PVR will have a 10.62 per cent stake in PVR Inox.

  • PVR’s Q1 consolidated revenue up to Rs 1,002 crore

PVR’s Q1 consolidated revenue up to Rs 1,002 crore

Mumbai: Multiplex operator PVR has announced its unaudited standalone and consolidated financial results for the first quarter ended 30 June 2022.

Consolidated revenue, Ebitda and PAT were Rs 1,002 crore, Rs 362 crore and Rs 53 crore, respectively, as compared to Rs 93 crore, Rs 58 crore and Rs 220 crore for the corresponding quarter in FY ’22. After adjusting for the impact of IND-AS 116-Leases, the consolidated revenue, Ebitda, and PAT of the company were Rs 1,000 crore, Rs 208 crore, and Rs 68 crore, respectively, as compared to Rs 71 crore, Rs 110 crore, and Rs 142 crore for Q1 FY’22.

This quarter was the best ever quarter in PVR’s history in terms of revenue, Ebitda, and PAT. The company recorded the highest ever ATP of Rs 250 for the quarter on the back of global and local tent poles that resonated with the Indian audience. The quarter was marked by the release of some of the biggest domestic hits like “KGF: Chapter 2,” “RRR,” “Vikram,” “Bhool Bhulaiya 2” and Hollywood tentpoles like “Doctor Strange” and “Top Gun: Maverick,” which PVR said performed exceedingly well at the box office. “KGF 2” went on to become the second largest blockbuster in the Indian market. It was the highest grosser ever for PVR, with a net box office of Rs 121 crore across its cinema circuit.

PVR added that its team’s consistent work on F&B resulted in the highest ever average F&B spend per head (SPH) of Rs 134 being reported during the quarter, reflecting a growth of 32 per cent over pre-pandemic levels. The company has recorded the highest monthly average F&B revenue of Rs.100+ crore during the quarter.

But the growth in ad revenue continues to lag. The company has reported advertising income of Rs 63 crore, which is 32 per cent lower than the pre-pandemic figures. Or in other words, it reflects a 68 per cent recovery in ad income vis-à-vis pre-pandemic levels.

On the back of significant growth in ATP and SPH and a significant recovery in admissions, the Ebitda margins for the quarter were 20.8 per cent.

The company said that the content pipeline for 2022 in the months ahead looks extremely robust. Over the next few months, it has several big-budget Bollywood movies lined up for release, like “Shamshera,” “Laal Singh Chaddha,” “Brahmastra,” “Vikram Vedha,” “Ram Setu,” “Phone Bhoot,” “Yodha,” “Drishyam 2,” “Cirkus,” “Kabhi Eid Kabhi Diwali,” etc.. “Bullet Train,” “Paws of Fury,” “DC League of Super Pets,” “Black Adam,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (Marvel),” and “Avatar: The Way of Water” are among the films from Hollywood. From the regional genre, we have “Vikrant Rona,” “Liger,” “Godfather,” “Ponniyin Selvan.”

The company has revived its capex plans in a significant manner and is on track to open a total of 125 new screens during FY’23. It has opened 14 screens across 3 properties till date. About one-third of the new screen additions in this fiscal year will be in tier 2 and 3 cities. The company plans to enter nine new cities during the year.

The announced merger with Inox Leisure is progressing well. Both the companies have received “No Objection Certificates” from the two stock exchanges (BSE and NSE) on the proposed scheme of merger. We are on track to submit our application for the approval of the scheme of merger before the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in the next couple of weeks.

PVR chairman and MD Ajay Bijli said, “This quarter’s results are a reflection of the strength of the domestic film industry we have in India and the consumer’s unsatiated appetite to watch films on the big screen. The Indian exhibition industry has been one of the fastest to recover as compared to other international markets. The content line-up for the year ahead looks very promising, and we hope this will be a very strong box office year for the Indian exhibitors. As we celebrate the silver jubilee for PVR this year, we are extremely confident that we will continue to set and exceed even greater benchmarks in the years to come.”

  • Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness creating magic at box office

Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness creating magic at box office

Mumbai: The summer movie season soared to a magical start thanks to “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness.” The superhero action extravaganza grossed an estimated $185 million in ticket sales in its first weekend in US and Canadian theaters, the Walt Disney Co. said on Sunday.

Not only did it more than double the opening of the first “Doctor Strange”, which opened to $85 million in 2016, but it’s also the biggest opener of the year, ahead of “The Batman’s” $134 million; the second biggest of the pandemic, behind “Spider-Man: Far From Home’s” $260.1 million; and the sixth biggest of all time globally.

International markets are holding fast and setting new records. Friday added five more hubs to take the total to 49. India debuted the Sam Raimi-directed pic at $4.3 million for No. 1 and the fourth-highest Hollywood launch day of all time. Spain’s No. 1 start of $2.5 million is the best opening day of the pandemic and Turkey’s $700K set a benchmark for the top opening Friday in history. In total, “Doctor Strange and Multiverse of Madness” have already made a commanding $450 million.

Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the sequel to “Doctor Strange” (2016) and the 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The film was directed by Sam Raimi, written by Michael Waldron, and stars Benedict Cumberbatch as Stephen Strange, alongside Elizabeth Olsen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Benedict Wong, Xochitl Gomez, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Rachel McAdams. In the film, Strange protects America Chavez (Gomez), a teenager capable of travelling the multiverse, from the villainous, Wanda Maximoff (Olsen).

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on 2 May, and was released in the United States on 6 May, as part of phase four of the MCU. The film received generally positive reviews from critics, who praised Raimi’s direction, the visual effects, musical score, and performances of the cast (particularly Cumberbatch, Olsen, and Gomez), although the pacing received some criticism. The film currently sits at 75 percent of fresh critics’ reviews on Rotten Tomatoes.

Spider-Man is at least partially to thank for the massive debut of “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness”: Benedict Cumberbatch’s powerful sorcerer appeared prominently in “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, which has become the third biggest movie of all time since opening in December. Additionally, Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff is seen as a plus in regards to attracting a potentially younger female demo than usual for an MCU title.

Fanbase favourite, Sam Raimi stepped up to direct “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness”, which reportedly cost around $200 million to make — though that number doesn’t account for the many more millions spent on marketing and promotion.

The film also has a gigantic footprint. It’s playing in 4,534 theaters in the US and Canada alone, which according to Disney is the seventh widest opening ever. Premium format screens, including IMAX and 3D, accounted for 36 percent of the overall box office.

“This is a total win for the industry for whom the last two summers almost didn’t exist in terms of box office,” said Paul Dergarabedian, the senior media analyst for Comscore. “Marvel has been kicking off summers for over a decade. This is a return to normalcy.”

The success of “Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness” only helps build momentum for the big summer movies on the way, like “Top Gun: Maverick” on 27 May. “We’ve got a real summer movie season on our hands, something we couldn’t have imagined two years ago,” Dergarabedian said. “It’s been a long time coming.”

There was little left for other movies playing in theaters. Part of that is due to the fact that many multiplexes chose to pack their theaters with wall-to-wall “Doctor Strange” screenings.

Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s “The Bad Guys” fell to second place in its third weekend with an estimated $9.8 million, while “Sonic the Hedgehog 2”, from Paramount, landed in third with $6.2 million.

“Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore” took fourth with $3.9 million, bringing its domestic total to $86 million. And in fifth place was another multiverse-themed film, “Everything Everywhere All At Once.” It had a slight dip in its seventh weekend but is still speeding along with an additional $3.3 million from 1,542 screens in its seventh weekend in theaters. The A24 film has grossed $41.6 million in total.

  • Omicron surge: Uncertainty prevails at theatrical box office worldwide

Omicron surge: Uncertainty prevails at theatrical box office worldwide

Los Angeles: With the boom in box office grosses from ‘Spiderman: No Way Home’ beginning to subside and the Omicron surge taking its toll, movie theatres worldwide are facing a sobering reality that the first two months of the 2022 box office could turn out to be a gloomy dry spell.

In the past week, according to TheWrap.com, Sony moved its next Marvel movie, the Jared Leto-led, ‘Morbius’ from late January to 1 April. Then, on Friday, Disney pulled the early-March Pixar film, ‘Turning Red’ from theaters entirely, instead of making it the third straight feature film from the animation studio to get an exclusive release on Disney+.

That means that the US theaters will soon be lacking all three of the major ingredients for box office riches at this time of year — holiday holdovers, Oscar contenders, and major new releases — with only the prospect of Sony’s Tom Holland action film ‘Uncharted’ on 18 February and Warner Bros.’ ‘The Batman’ on 4 March is on the horizon to lure audiences in large numbers.

Even prior to the pandemic, box office performances in January and February have been mixed. On one hand, films like ‘Hidden Figures’, ‘Bad Boys for Life’, and Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ found success with audiences in these early-year slots, combined with December releases like ‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ and Oscar contenders like ‘La La Land’ to provide a solid start for the year. However, for the next four to eight weeks, the 2022 box office appears unlikely to see those levels of success play out again.

To complicate matters, Omicron is beginning to play havoc in Hollywood as a surge in cases is causing production delays. As reported in the Los Angeles Times, despite a rebound in film and TV production in late 2021, as the Covid-19 crises began to subside, the recent emergence of the highly contagious Omicron variant now threatens production output as studios push back work once again. “We’re not seeing the typical level of rebound of production,” FilmLA President Paul Audley told The Times. “We’re hearing from people who are asking to cancel or postpone their permits right now.” FilmLA is the nonprofit group that handles film permits for the Hollywood region.

The International Box Office faces similar yet unique challenges as the new Omicron variant causes concern around the globe. The new year begins as did the previous one, with cinema closures in several markets. Europe has been particularly affected, with Netherlands and Denmark in complete lockdown and restrictions in many others. Meanwhile, a slowdown in Hollywood productions due to Omicron could eventually hit the International Box Office’s bottom line.  Although Q1 is looking soft, some studio executives are hopeful that the overseas landscape, particularly in the northern hemisphere, will settle down by spring with moviegoers ready to return in Q2 with some normalcy.

A unique international box office wildcard, as reported by Deadline, is China. With a powerhouse 44 per cent of the 2021 worldwide box office haul, China has been more ornery to navigate than usual, notably not approving a single movie with a Marvel character in 2021, from Disney’s ‘Black Widow’ straight through to Sony’s ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and having a huge influence on the International Box Office in the process.

In general, China appears to be putting the brakes on Hollywood. 2021 already saw fewer than 20 revenue-sharing movies allowed in, versus 30-plus in 2019. There are varying theories as to why this is happening, which include the 100th anniversary of the Communist Party, which put the focus on local so-called “propaganda” movies like the $900 million-plus grosser ‘The Battle at Lake Changjin’. There also appears to be the targeted blackballing of Marvel. Some believe it may be linked to Black Widow’s depiction of communism, while some think the slate of films was a no-go as years-old comments allegedly made by ‘Eternals’ helmer Chloé Zhao surfaced last year.

However, notable Hollywood titles that did release in China in 2021 include ‘A Quiet Place Part II’, ‘F9’, ‘Godzilla vs Kong’, ‘Dune’, and ‘Free Guy’. China also allowed films such as ‘Jungle Cruise’ and ‘Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins’ which had already been out elsewhere for months. In doing so, USC professor and China expert Stanley Rosen told Deadline, “They are showing that they’re not closed off, but they are telling Hollywood, ‘We don’t really need you and we will pick and choose for whatever reasons we want to’.”

Does it matter to China that it left potentially hundreds of millions of dollars on the table by not releasing the Marvel movies? While an oft-heard refrain is that China doesn’t care about money, it’s also said the country does care about cultural power. And, though it may be entirely capable of churning out local films that gross well over $500M at home, without Hollywood products, sources believe it will not be able to feed its ever-growing number of screens (currently 82,248 and eyed at 100K by 2025).

Rosen stated, “They don’t need Hollywood as much as they used to, that’s very clear. But, they want to be the number one film market in the world and want to show themselves as a global power and not close off. That includes film, so they need to have Hollywood products to show that.”

As both the Domestic and International Box Offices eye a hopeful Q2, uncertainty remains as Covid-19 (including the Omicron strain) and China appear to hold blind cards to handing 2022 a winning box office prize.

  • ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ leaps to box office success amid Omicron concerns

‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ leaps to box office success amid Omicron concerns

Los Angeles: No one could be surprised that ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ would be one of this year’s box office biggest heroes but it’s spinning its way to becoming the best December domestic opening with $253 million, the best ever for Sony and the third best-ever among all films beating 2015’s ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ domestic opening of $247.9 million.

The film, released exclusively in theatres, is attracting enthusiastic moviegoers with record-breaking support in the US. This is big news for theaters whose continued existence seems under constant threat due to the sustained Covid-19 pandemic.

American Multi-Cinema (AMC) announced Friday that roughly 1.1 million moviegoers attended the opening night of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ in the US, making it the highest-grossing opening night for a December title in AMC’s history. Cinemark called the film’s debut its “best opening night of all time.” And Regal said the film became its second-highest Thursday box office title in its history and shattered records for IMAX, 4DX, ScreenX, and RPX formats.

Worldwide, the film, starring Tom Holland as Marvel’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, is crushing box office records — with this weekend’s global $587.2 million tally, it ranks as the third-biggest worldwide debut in history behind “Avengers: Endgame” (a historic $1.2 billion) and “Avengers: Infinity War” ($640 million). Notably, the top two films opened in China, which is currently the world’s biggest movie-going market, while ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ has yet to secure a release date there.

In India, the movie continues to keep the Indian box office buzzing. In just three days, the film has managed to cross the Rs 100 crore mark beating other Bollywood films. The much-awaited superhero action film was released on 16 December across 3,264 screens in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu versions.

“This weekend’s historic ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ results, from all over the world and in the face of many challenges, reaffirm the unmatched cultural impact that exclusive theatrical films can have when they are made and marketed with vision and resolve,” said Sony’s Motion Picture Group chairman and CEO Tom Rothman as reported in Variety. “All of us at Sony Pictures, are deeply grateful to the fabulous talent, both in front of and behind the camera, that produced such a landmark film. Thanks to their brilliant work, this Christmas everyone can enjoy the big screen gift of 2021’s mightiest Super Hero — your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.”

Credit should also be given to Marvel itself for amping up the prestige of this sequel and fueling fans’ anticipation for months. Directed by Jon Watts, the third chapter in Holland’s trilogy takes place after Peter Parker’s identity is revealed to the world, upending the lives of his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya), his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon), and his aunt May (Marisa Tomei).

Nitu Chandra Srivastava leads female cast in ‘Never Back Down: Revolt’

Los Angeles: Sony Studios rolled out the red carpet as Nitu Chandra Srivastava made her Hollywood debut in the martial arts thriller “Never Back Down: Revolt.” Chandra Srivastava alongside actress Olivia Popica lead an ensemble cast highlighting the growing emergence of diverse and across-the-board female talent in Hollywood including the film’s director Kellie Madison and writer Audrey Arkins.

The project features Chandra Srivastava as ‘Jaya,’ a fighter who is kidnapped and forced to battle in cut-throat underground fights in order to win her freedom from a subversive gang that runs a fight trafficking ring. The film is the fourth installment in the successful, multi-starrer “Never Back Down” franchise.

Chandra Srivastava, who is a Blackbelt forth Dan in Taekwondo and has represented India in three championships said, “Since my childhood, I’ve been a martial artist and it’s been my dream to do a hardcore action film like this. I could not have asked for a better launch in Hollywood.”

The actress is known for her performance in films like “Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!,” “13B,” “Traffic Signal,” and for producing the National Award-winning “Mithila Makhaan” (Maithili language film).

In more than one way, Chandra Srivastava credits her martial arts training in her ultimate success in bagging the role of Jaya, “These skills have made me mentally and physically strong which, in the end, helped me land this role.”

Of her female cast members, the actress stated, “There are so many fantastic and diverse female actors, I loved working with each one of them and I found sisters in all of them.”

Director Kellie Madison said, “Nitu is filled with light and love and I’m so proud of each one of these women, who I hand-picked and came from every corner of the planet… Columbia, India, Canada, Romania and Indonesia. I’m grateful that the consciousness is changing and evolving for women in Hollywood. In the end, men and women just need to support one another. I’m a storyteller and I just want to be able to tell my stories.”

“This is a movie where women unite to fight against the odds,” Chandra Srivastava said, “Kellie was so wonderful to work with because being a female, she understands the heart of another. I’m also grateful to producer David Zelon, who supported and trusted me with this role. We worked as a team.”

“Never Back Down: Revolt” is being released against the backdrop of reports that women are making slow but steady progress towards equality in Hollywood. Female protagonists in movies are at an all-time high, however, more progress is needed, especially behind the camera, in production roles and executive positions.

The film is produced by Sony Motion Pictures Worldwide and Mandalay Pictures and also features James Faulkner, Brooke Johnston and Michael Bisping. It was released in the US on 16 November on Blu-ray, DVD and streaming platforms and is scheduled to be released in India on 28 January 2022.
