    English Movies most benefited genre in Chrome DM week 23

    MUMBAI: With a growth of 1.75 per cent as compared to last week (22), the English Movies genre marked the highest opportunity to see (OTS) among all categories in week 23 of Chrome Data Analytics & Media. 

    In the English Movies genre, Sony Pix gained the highest OTS with 63.9 per cent in six metros.

    OTS is the actual census-based percentage connectivity of a channel spread across 81 million homes, reported by Chrome DM, across analogue cable, digital cable and DTH. 

    The second position in the gainer’s list of OTS was grabbed by the Hindi Movies genre with the growth of 1.08 per cent in HSM (Hindi speaking-market) excluding the less than 1L-market. Rishtey Cineplex was the most benefitted channel in this category with 94.4 per cent.

    The third position in the gainers was garnered by Hindi News genre in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market with 1.01 per cent OTS. India TV gained the highest OTS with 99.1 OTS.

    The Hindi GEC genre was at the fourth position in the list with 0.71 per cent growth and DD national catered to 99.3 per cent OTS in HSM excluding the less than 1L-market.

    The fifth position in gainers list was bagged by the Kids genre with a growth of 0.50 per cent. In this category, Discovery Kids topped the OTS chart with 89.9 per cent in All India 1 Lakh+ market.

    Hindi news benefited most, Sports genre most affected: Chrome DM week 22

    MUMBAI: With a growth of 1.24 per cent as compared to last week (21), the Hindi News genre marked the highest opportunity to see (OTS) among all categories in week 22 of Chrome Data Analytics & Media. 

    In the Hindi news category, India TV gained the highest OTS with 98.8 per cent whereas Zee News’ OTS was 93.3 per cent in  HSM (Hindi-speaking markets) excluding 1L- towns.

    OTS is the actual census-based percentage connectivity of a channel spread across 81 million homes, reported by Chrome DM, across analogue cable, digital cable and DTH. 

    The second position in the gainer’s list of OTS was grabbed by the religious genre with the growth of 0.90 per cent in HSM excluding 1L-market. Aastha was the most benefitted channel in this category with 96 per cent whereas God was the most affected one with 79 per cent OTS.

    The third position in the gainers was garnered by Hindi movies genre in HSM excluding 1L-market with 0.74 per cent OTS. Rishtey Cineplex gained the highest OTS with 93.9 per cent whereas Zee Cinema had a 92.4 per cent OTS.

    The youth genre was at the fourth position in the list with 0.65 per cent growth and MTV reported  to 92.1 per cent OTS on an HSM (Hindi-speaking market) excluding 1L-market.

    The fifth position in gainers list was bagged by the music genre with a growth of 0.28 per cent. In this category, Sony Mix topped the OTS chart with 93.6 per cent on an all-India basis in week 22 of Chrome DM.

    Among the losers, sports was the most affected genre with a drop of 2.61 per cent OTS in HSM excluding 1L-market with Star Sports 1 recording the highest fall in OTS in the segment with 64.3 per cent whereas DD Sports was the least affected with 93.5 per cent

    The English movies category recorded a fall of 0.53 per cent OTS in six metros. Sony Pix topped the list with a 63.5 per cent OTS in week 22.Zee Studio had a 57 per cent OTS.

    Business news and English GECs pocketed third and fourth positions with a drop of 0.57 per cent and 0.30 per cent, respectively. NDTV Profit/Prime in the business news genre and Zee Cafe in the English GEC dipped with 61.8 per cent and 53.4 per cent OTS, whereas Zee Business and AXN topped the chart with 83.4 per cent and 60.4 per cent, respectively.

    Kids- All India genre stood at  fifth position with a fall of 0.01 per cent OTS with Sony Yay holding the last position in the Top 5 channels’ chart with 77.9 per cent and Nickelodeon leading the chart with 89.9 per cent OTS in 1L-market.

  • ABP climbs, India TV & NDTV slip as entrenched leaders see ratings hike

    MUMBAI: Times Now continued to be the leader of the English news genre with a decent hike in BARC India ratings week 17 and India Today Television climbed up to the second spot from the third position last week. 

    In the English business news genre, CNBC TV maintained the top slot witnessing a good hike in ratings. In Hindi news (U+R), Aaj Tak continued to lead the genre across the market. ABP News jumped two spots in both Hindi news as well as Hindi news – Urban. CNBC Awaaz continued to dominate the genre with a hike in the rating.

    English News

    Times now continued to lead the genre with 767 Impressions (000s) sum followed by India Today Television and CNN News18. Both climbed up a spot each at second and third positions with 362 Impressions (000s) sum and 257 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. NDTV 24×7 slipped to fourth position from its second slot in the previous week with 244 Impressions (000s) sum and BBC world news grabbed the fifth spot with a slight increase in the rating.

    English Business news

    CNBC TV retained the number one position with 696 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 492 Impressions (000s) sum whereas ET Now with a fall in the ratings of 261 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to last week’s 414 Impressions (000s) sum grabbed the second position. 

    NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime were at third position with 77 Impressions (000s) sum. BTVi was on the fourth spot with 19 Impressions (000s) sum and CNBC TV18 Prime HD stood at the fifth place with three  Impressions (000s) sum which was the same last week.

    Hindi News

    Aaj Tak, with a slight hike in the ratings, retained its number one position with 104644 Impressions (000s) sum in BARC week 17. ABP News regained its second position with a week’s gap with 88038 Impressions (000s) sum from fourth in the last week. 

    India TV and Zee News dropped a slot each with 87544 Impressions (000s) sum and 86124 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. News18 India is at fifth position with 65101 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi Rural news

    Aaj Tak, with a fall in its ratings, emerged the number one channel in the rural market with 44287 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 45151 Impressions (000s) sum last week. India TV sat at the second spot with 37811 Impressions (000s) sum as ABP News was at the third slot with 36092 Impressions (000s) sum. Zee News and India TV, interchanged their slots in BARC week 17 respectively taking the fourth and fifth place with 34908 and 31301 Impressions (000s) sum.

    Hindi Urban news

    Aaj Tak, with a great hike in its viewership, emerged as the leader in the urban market with 60357 Impressions (000s) sum as compared to 53456 Impressions (000s) sum last week. ABP News climed to the second slot with 51945 Impressions (000s) sum from its fourth position last week with 42849 Impressions (000s) sum. Zee News and India TV slipped a slot each with 51215 Impressions (000s) sum and 49732 Impressions (000s) sum, respectively. News18 India took the fifth position with 38232 Impressions (000s).

  • News: India TV climbs & ABP slips in two categories

    MUMBAI: Despite a general fall in ratings across the news genre, Times Now continued to be the leader in the English news genre and CNBC TV maintained the top slot in the English business news genre.

    In Hindi news (U+R), Aaj Tak witnessed a dip in ratings but continued to lead the genre across the market. India TV climbed a spot each in Hindi news as well as Hindi news -rural, and Zee News upgraded to a higher spot in Hindi news. CNBC Awaaz, too, continued to dominate the genre with a hike in the ratings, according to BARC India week 16 ratings.

    English News

    Times now continued to lead the genre although it witnessed a dip in the rating this week. The channel registered 552 Impressions (000s) followed by NDTV on the second spot with 345 Impressions (000s) and India Today Television on the third spot with 301 Impressions (000s). CNN News18 with 237 Impressions (000s) stood at number four and BBC world news grabbed the fifth spot with a slight increase in the rating.

    English Business news

    Even after witnessing a dip in rating this week, CNBC TV retained the number one position with 492 Impressions (000s) as compared to last week’s 510 Impressions (000s) whereas ET Now with a great hike in the ratings of 414 Impressions (000s) as compared to last week’s 232 Impressions (000s) grabbed the second position. NDTV profit and NDTV Prime were at third position with 44 Impressions (000s). 

    BTVi was on the fourth spot with 20 Impressions (000s). CNBC TV18 Prime HD took the fifth place with three Impressions (000s) as compared to last week’s 32 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News

    Aaj Tak, with decreased ratings, retained its number one position with 98608 Impressions (000s) in BARC week 16. India TV and Zee News climbed up one position each with 85342 Impressions (000s) and 78099 Impressions (000s), respectively. ABP news dropped to fourth position from second last week with 77731 Impressions (000s). News18 India is at fifth position with 65610 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi Rural news

    Aaj Tak, with a fall in its ratings, emerged as the number one channel in the rural market with 45151 Impressions (000s) as compared to 50951 Impressions (000s) last week. India TV climbed one spot with 35448 Impressions (000s) as ABP News slipped by one slot with 34882 Impressions (000s). India News and Zee news, respectively, took the forth and fifth place with 33580 and 31486 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi Urban news

    Aaj Tak, with a decrease in its viewership, emerged as the leader in the urban market with 53456 Impressions (000s) as compared to 58914 Impressions (000s) last week. India TV bagged the second slot with 49894 Impressions (000s) and Zee News took the third position with 46613 Impressions (000s). ABP news was at the fourth position with 42849 and News18 India took the fifth position with 39006 Impressions (000s).

  • Drop in news viewership rating, Aaj Tak & Times Now retain respective leads

    MUMBAI: Times Now continued to dominate the genre though the players in the space witnessed a fall in their viewership this week. Players in the English Business News space, which was led by CNBC TV18, observed mixed ratings in BARC week 14.

    Although Aaj Tak was at the number one position, channels in both, Hindi News and Hindi News Rural space, saw a decline in ratings, according to Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) India data. Players in the Hindi News Urban genre observed mixed ratings this week.

    In the Hindi Business News space, the channels witnessed a substantial decline in ratings this week.  

    English News

    Times Now with decrease in ratings dominated the genre with 562 Impressions (000s) followed by India Today 356 Impressions (000s).  NDTV 24×7 grabbed the third place with 328 Impressions (000s). CNN News18 with 318 Impressions (000s) and BBC World News with 137 Impressions (000s) took the fourth and fifth position, respectively.

    English Business News

    CNBC TV 18, with hike in ratings, retained the number one position 630 Impressions (000s) as compared to  547 Impressions (000s). ET Now with 352 Impressions (000s) came at the second spot this week. NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime were at the third position with 76 Impressions (000s). CNBC TV18 Prime HD was on the fourth spot with 52 Impressions (000s) and BTVi took the fifth place with 29 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News

    Aaj Tak, with decreased ratings, continued at its number one position with 125509 Impressions (000s) as compared to 129150 Impressions (000s) in week 13. ABP News was at the second position with 111995 Impressions (000s). At the third and fourth slots respectively, India TV and Zee News interchanged their past week positions with 94477 and 85727 Impressions (000s). News18 India took the fifth position with 70636 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News Rural

    Aaj Tak, with a fall in its ratings, emerged as the number one channel in the rural market with 57455 Impressions (000s) as compared to 59143 Impressions (000s) last week. ABP News was at the second place with 52678 Impressions (000s) and India TV grabbed the third position with 38492 Impressions (000s). Zee News and India News respectively took the fourth and fifth place with 34507 and 33778 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News Urban

    Aaj Tak, with decrease in its viewership, emerged as the leader in the urban market with 68054 Impressions (000s) as compared to 70007 Impressions (000s) last week. ABP News was at the second position with 59316 Impressions (000s). India TV took the third position with 55985 Impressions (000s) followed by Zee News at the fourth position with 51220 Impressions (000s). News 18 India took the fifth position with 41498 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi Business News

    CNBC Awaaz continued to dominate the genre as ratings fell from 2348 Impressions (000s) last week to 1719 Impressions (000s) this week. The second spot was taken by Zee Business with 1261 Impressions (000s).

     

  • News18 India enters Top 5 list, News Nation exits

    MUMBAI: Although Times Now retained its leadership position, the English News genre witnessed a decrease in ratings in BARC week 13. In the Hindi News – Urban genre too, the channels saw a decrease in the viewership. News18 India entered the Top 5 list leading to the exit of News Nation. Players in the English Business News genre, dominated by CNBC TV18, observed mixed ratings. 

    English News

    Times Now and India Today respectively retained their number one and number two positions with 606 Impressions (000s) and 371 Impressions (000s). 

    CNN News18 bagged the third slot with 354 Impressions (000s). NDTV 24×7 with 338 Impressions (000s) and BBC World News with 136 Impressions (000s) took the fourth and fifth position, respectively.

    English Business News

    CNBC TV 18 emerged the leader with 547 Impressions (000s) followed by ET Now with 356 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime together were at the third position with 90 Impressions (000s). BTVi was on the fourth spot with 34 Impressions (000s) and CNBC TV 18 Prime HD took the fifth place with 20 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News

    Aaj Tak with low ratings continued at its number one position with 129150 Impressions (000s) as compared to 152024 Impressions (000s) in week 12. ABP News was at the second position with 115506 Impressions (000s). At the third and fourth slots respectively, India TV and Zee News interchanged their past week positions with 95234 and 94469 Impressions (000s). News18 India took the fifth position with 72140 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News Rural

    Despite reduced ratings Aaj Tak emerged at the number one position in the rural market with 59143 Impressions (000s) as compared to 64889 Impressions (000s) last week. ABP News was at the second place with 53506 Impressions (000s) and India TV grabbed the third position with 40198 Impressions (000s). Zee News and India News respectively took the fourth and fifth place with 36903 and 36878 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi News Urban

    Aaj Tak retained the numero uno spot in the urban market with 70007 Impressions (000s) as compared to 87135 Impressions (000s) last week. ABP News was at the second position with 61999 Impressions (000s). Zee News took the third position with 57565 Impressions (000s) followed by India TV at the fourth position with 55035 Impressions (000s). News 18 India took the fifth position with 40469 Impressions (000s).

    Hindi Business News

    CNBC Awaaz continued to dominate the genre as ratings climbed from 1848 Impressions (000s) last week to 2348 Impressions (000s) this week. The second spot was taken by Zee Business with 1339 Impressions (000s).

    MUMBAI: English Entertainment emerged as the number one gainer in week 39 of Chrome Data and Analytics. The sector registered 30.4 per cent opportunity to see (OTS) and Comedy Central led the genre with 45.6 per cent OTS.

    Next in the row is Hindi News in Hindi-speaking market (HSM) which recorded 27. 2 per cent of OTS With DD News leading the sector with 97.7 per cent OTS.

    Kids genre on an all-India basis registered an increase of 12.4 per cent of OTS. Cartoon Network bagged the first position in the sector with 81.0 per cent of OTS. English Movies on the other hand grabbed the fourth slot in the list of gainer with 11.2 per cent of OTS and Movies Now emerges as the number one channel with 46.9 per cent of OTS.

    Last but not the least, the sports genre across India registered 6.5 per cent OTS with DD Sports leading the sector with 91.7 per cent OTS.

    The music genre, Hindi Movies, Hindi GEC, religious and English news are among the sectors which fail to garner positive ratings.

    The music genre this week witnessed a drop of 17.8 per cent of OTS led the top loser list and Sony Mix topped the genre with 90.8 per cent of OTS. Hindi Movies in HSM dropped by 17.4 per cent with Max leading the space with 93.0 per cent of OTS.

    Along with Hindi movies genre, Hindi GEC too saw a drop and decreased by 6.2 per cent. DD National garnered 98.9 per cent of OTS.

    Religious sector witnessed a fall of 4.3 per cent of OTS and Aastha led the list with 98.9 per cent. English News in six metros registered 3.7 per cent fall. Lok Sabha emerged as the most affected channel with 93.5 per cent of OTS.

    MUMBAI: Zee News, which recently became a free to air channel, entered the top 5 player list in Hindi News space, according to week 32 of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC). News Nation exited the Hindi news genre.

    The battle for the number one position in the English business news space continued this week with CNBC TV18 dominating the genre.

    The entire news industry observed mixed ratings according to this week’s data.

    English News

    Times Now with an increase in ratings continued to remain the undisputed leader with 524 Impressions (000s) this week as compared to 497 Impressions (000s) in week 31. NDTV 24×7 grabbed the second slot with decrease in ratings from 207 Impressions (000s) to 184 Impressions (000s) this week. India Today Television took the third berth with 178 Impressions (000s) followed by CNN News18 at the fourth position with 131 Impressions. BBC World News with 108 Impressions (000s) took the fifth position.

    CNBC TV18 replaced ET Now grabbing the number one position with 338 Impressions (000s). ET Now placed itself at the second spot with 231 Impressions (000s). NDTV Profit and NDTV Prime continued to be at the third position with 36 Impressions (000s). BTVi secured itself on the last spot with 16 Impressions (000s).
