    NBC to bring diverse programming line-up to MIPTV

    MUMBAI: NBC’s fare on offer at Cannes this year includes diverse fare including a highly anticipated network drama from Dick Wolf, a new network comedy, as well as non-scripted series, formats, news, sports and documentaries.

    In addition to television programming, the slate is further fueled by feature film titles including the Jamie Foxx-starrer Ray and the upcoming The Interpreter, starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn.

    New series from NBC Universal International Television Distribution at MIPTV this time include Law & Order: Trial by Jury, the latest installment in Dick Wolf’s Emmy-winning Law & Order brand, with an all-star ensemble cast including Kirk Acevedo, Amy Carlson, Bebe Neuwirth, Jerry Orbach and Fred Dalton Thompson; the compelling medical mystery drama House, which has just been picked up for a second season in the US; The Office, based on the surprise British hit and already creating a strong buzz overseas; and Kojak, starring screen actor Ving Rhames in the lead role as Lieutenant Theo Kojak, and also starring Chazz Palminteri and Roselyn Sanchez.

    NBC’s motion picture offerings include the upcoming The Interpreter, a dramatic thriller that follows an FBI agent assigned to protect a UN interpreter who overhears an assassination plot, starring Nicole Kidman and Sean Penn; The Perfect Man, starring Hilary Duff, Heather Locklear, Chris Noth and Aria Wallace in the story of a teenage girl (Duff) who secretly plans to find her mom (Locklear) the perfect man; and The Skeleton Key, starring Kate Hudson, Gena Rowlands and Peter Sarsgaard, a mystery set in the dark atmospheric backwoods just outside of New Orleans about a young woman hired to care for an elderly woman’s (Rowlands) ailing husband in their home.

    In addition to new programming, NBC will also be presenting returning series, including the Emmy-winning and Golden Globe-winning Monk, SCI FI Channel’s hugely successful Battlestar Galactica; as well as current and non-scripted programming including the ongoing successful franchises Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Queer Eye for the Straight Girl, Meet My Folks, Average Joe and Celebrity Poker Showdown, as well as NBC News programming including Dateline and Nightly News with Brian Williams.

    Ben Stiller to host Nickelodeon’s kids’ choice awards

    UMBAI: Hollywood funnyman Ben Stiller, whose latest film is Meet the Fockers will be hosting the awards for the first time. Nickelodeons 18th Annual Kids Choice Awards which will be held on 2 April.

    According to a official communiqué, this award function has been hailed as a mini-Oscars. Nick India will announce telecast timings at a later date.

    Nickelodeon executive vice-president development and original programming Marjorie Cohn said, Were thrilled to welcome Ben Stiller as a first-time host of Nickelodeons KidsChoice this year. Hes hilarious, loved by kids and a movie veteran of the kind of irreverent mayhem that is the hallmark of our slime-meets-stars Awards.

    Ben Stiller as quoted said, Nickelodeons Kids Choice Awards is hands down the ultimate awards show involving the use of slime on stage. Im looking forward to hosting the show and being in the middle of all the kid-fueled energy – and yes, maybe even orchestrating something so kid-spirational that Hollywood will be forced to let them sit at the grown-ups awards table once and for all.

    Nominees announced for the awards, includes the feature film Shrek 2 which has topped the list this year, garnering five nominations for favorite movie, favorite voice from an animated movie (Eddie Murphy, Cameron Diaz and Mike Myers) and favorite video game.

    Hilary Duff received three nominations, including favorite movie actress, favorite TV actress and favorite female singer.

    Usher also got three nods, one for favorite male singer and two for favorite songs (Burn and, with Alicia Keys, My Boo), while Beyonce picked up one for favorite female Singer. Harry Potter got a pair of nods for favorite book series and favorite Movie.

    The voting procedure commences from 7 March on Nick.com, through wireless text messaging, informs the media release.

    Nickelodeons 18th Annual Kids Choice Awards is being produced by Nickelodeon Productions in association with Bob Bain Productions.

    Last year, another kids’ channel in the space Pogo introduced Pogo Amazing Kids Awards which was held in December.

    MarVista Ent strikes a deal with Brookwell McNamara Ent

    MUMBAI: MarVista Entertainment, the global production and distribution company, has signed a groundbreaking three series co-production and worldwide distribution agreement with Brookwell McNamara Entertainment (BME), one of US’ leading live­action kids programming companies.

    The announcement was made by MarVista’s president – production and distribution Michael Jacobs and BME President David Brookwell on 24 March.

    BME’s current credits include Hilary Duff’s Heart of Summer for New Line Cinema and the highly-rated series Even Stevens and That’s So Raven both airing on the Disney Channel.

    Under the agreement, BME and MarVista will both serve as producers for these new series with MarVista handling the worldwide distribution. The first series, a teen drama to be announced shortly, is slated to begin production in summer 2004.

    According to an official release, this deal reunites BME and Michael Jacobs who previously worked together and produced and distributed the films Treehouse, Hostage and Wild Grizzly.

    “We are pleased to be working with Michael once again and are confident that this new venture with MarVista will lead to a long-term relationship where together we will produce and distribute top-rated programs for children and teens around the world,” stated Brookwell.

    “This agreement ensures that we have sufficient output of children’s live-action series for the world markets from one of the most prolific children’s producers in the US,” commented Jacobs.

    Cameron Diaz to make travel show for MTV

    MUMBAI: MTV has scored a coup with Hollywood actress Cameron Diaz. She has signed up with to present her own travel show for the broadcaster.

    The show will see the star addressing environmental issues as she travels with her friends. A report in mtv.com stated that the star’s exploits would include sand surfing in the Chilean desert.

    The Charlie’s Angels star will also produce the show, which will highlight how she copes without travel amenities and an entourage. Another report in Billboard.com indicates that Hilary Duff and Foxy Brown are among the seven celebrities with new projects MTV has in development. The Lizzie McGuire Movie star Duff also has a comedy pilot deal with MTV’s stable partner CBS.

    Brown will star in the reality themed Foxy’s Family. The show will follow the hip-hop star as she balances the demands of her musical career with the family who helps her run it. Television actor Frankie Muniz who stars in Fox’s Malcolm in the Middle will also host a series for MTV. He comes along for the ride as real-life high school students live out their fantasies. In India Malcolm in The Middle airs on Star World.
