    MUMBAI: There’s a new script being written at Primebook—and this time, it comes with financial savvy and a flair for storytelling. The Android-based computing company has made a two-pronged leadership move, bringing on board fintech heavyweight Bhavesh Gupta as an advisory board member, and appointing creative leader Tathagata Ray as head of content.

    The announcement signals Primebook India’s push to merge business strategy with brand building. The former Paytm president & COO, Gupta, brings over 25 years of experience across banking, digital lending and fintech. His new role at Primebook is set to strengthen the firm’s go-to-market strategy and expand digital access for India’s youth.

    “What compelled me to join Primebook’s advisory board is its futuristic approach to building deeptech solutions…” said Gupta. CEO & co-founder Chitranshu Mahant welcomed the appointment as a validation of Primebook’s long-term vision and scaling ambitions.

    Simultaneously, Ray steps into the role of head of content. With over 15 years in advertising and branding, Ray’s past includes stints at Air India Limited, Meta, The Glitch, and Grapes Digital. At Primebook, he is tasked with leading creative strategy and shaping a new-age brand identity.

    Ray remarked, “I’m thrilled to join the Primebook team at such an exciting time in the company’s journey…”. CMO & co-founder Aman Verma echoed that sentiment, stating, “We’re thrilled to welcome Tathagata Ray, whose creative leadership will elevate our brand narrative…”

    With these senior appointments, Primebook is tightening the screws on both execution and storytelling. The company aims to push ahead on its mission to deliver high price-to-performance computing and broaden access to digital tools across India.

    SonyLIV’s Saugata Mukherjee joins HBO Max as head of content, India

    Mumbai: WarnerMedia-owned video streaming service HBO Max has brought on board SonyLIV’s Sugata Mukherjee as head of content for India.

    In this new role, Mukherjee will report to HBO Max managing director for India & Southeast Asia Amit Malhotra.

    Mukherjee comes with over 16 years of experience in digital media, TV broadcast, and publishing. He joined Sony Pictures Networks India (SPNI) in February last year as head of original content for the company’s digital OTT platform. Before SPN, he worked with Hotstar as content strategy and production head.

    He has been associated with Star India since 2013, first as VP and head of commissioning and later as editor – content studio, where he was responsible for content acquisitions, development, and strategy. In 2018, he moved to Hotstar.

    Mukherjee has also worked with companies like Pan Macmillan where he was the publisher and editor-in-chief. He was previously associated with Harper Collins Publishers as managing editor and rights director.

    Star & Disney India expands roles of Kevin Vaz, Gaurav Banerjee

    Mumbai: Star & Disney India has expanded the roles of senior executives Kevin Vaz and Gaurav Banerjee. 

    Previously, head of kids, infotainment and regional entertainment channels, Vaz has been appointed as head of entertainment, a newly created role and will be responsible for the entire entertainment channel business. Banerjee, previously head of English and Hindi entertainment channels, has been appointed as head of content and will spearhead content for HSM entertainment channels and Disney+ Hotstar including regional content on the OTT platform.

    The new roles were announced by The Walt Disney Company India and Star India, country manager, K Madhavan in an internal memo to staff.

    Vaz’s remit will expand to include Star Plus, Star Bharat, Star Utsav, Hindi movies, and English cluster. Star Plus, GM, Sumanta Bose, Star Bharat, GM, Arpit Mankar and Star India, GM – Hindi films, Hemal Jhaveri will report to Vaz. Additionally, Star India’s executive vice president – ad sales, entertainment business, Arghya Chakravarty will have a dotted line reporting to Kevin for HSM ad sales.

    The content heads of all Hindi channels will report to Banerjee. Hemal Jhaveri will also have a dotted line reporting to Banerjee for digital movie rights. Apart from Jhaveri and Dhawal Gusain, all regional channel GMs will also have a dotted line reporting to Banerjee for Disney+ Hotstar content.

    Prime Video India content head Vijay Subramaniam steps down

    Mumbai: Amazon Prime Video India’s director and head of content Vijay Subramaniam has stepped down, the company confirmed in a statement. Country manager Gaurav Gandhi will take over his responsibilities going forward.

    Subramaniam has been associated with the company since 2017.

    “Vijay has played a key role in Prime Video’s growth in India in this period. We are grateful to him for his valuable contributions over the last four years,” said Prime Video India in a statement. “In his content leadership role, Vijay helped forge several key creator partnerships as well as laid great focus on expanding our content selection across languages. We wish Vijay the very best for his upcoming endeavours.”

    “Director and country manager Gaurav Gandhi will continue to lead Prime Video in India and work across all teams to accelerate Prime Video’s mission to be the most-loved entertainment brand in the country,” it further said.

    Subramaniam was previously with The Walt Disney Company, India before he quit as vice president – content and communication. He joined Disney in February 2007 and was responsible for the growth of its youth channel – Bindass. During his career, he has had stints at MTV Networks India, Entertainment Network India, Star TV Network, and Magna Publishing.

    He has almost three decades of experience in the media industry across TV, radio, publishing and digital media. His expertise includes content development and creation, programming and branded content, marketing strategy and implementation, revenue optimisation and sustainable growth and team building.
