    Hathway Cable removes NDTV India from popular channel packs

    Mumbai: Hindi news channel NDTV India has been removed from popular channel packs offered by cable TV operator Hathway Cable and Datacom, the channel has said.

    The channel tweeted the development on 3 September via its Twitter handle asking customers of the cable operator to call the customer service number and ask why NDTV India channel has been removed. It also asked them to tweet to the cable provider using their official Twitter handle.

    The call was taken up by NDTV Convergence, head, Suparna Singh and NDTV India, senior executive editor, Ravish Kumar. At the time of filing this report, the Twitter posts have gone viral garnering thousands of views, likes and retweets.

    The situation escalated further when Ravish Kumar shared a video clip that has been shared across NDTV’s social media handles.

     

     

     

     

    “Often TV News channels are removed from the channel packs citing operational bottlenecks. However, this matter is different,” said Kumar on his Prime Time Show. “There is a lot of effort that goes into preparing the programming for NDTV. This programme is not conjured out of thin air. The effort that goes into producing the primetime shows, there are thousands of words that are typed from the morning 7 a.m till the evening 10 p.m, which I do myself. We have a small team that puts in a lot of effort.”

     

     

    Kumar said it is not good when the programming that is created with so much effort is not able to reach the viewer because of the hurdles imposed by others. “We will continue to work. Today’s programme will not reach you. Yet, when history will look back, it will note that this was the only programme worth watching,” he said.

    On 4 September, Hathway Cable issued a statement, “The NDTV News channel is available for all Hathway Subscribers. Our customers can easily subscribe to the channel as per their requirements.”

    Hathway back on growth trajectory, reports consolidated profit of Rs 68 cr in Q3

    MUMBAI: After facing consecutive losses, Hathway Cable and Datacom has reported a consolidated profit of Rs 68.18 crore in the third quarter of the financial year 2019-20. The multi-system operator (MSO) had posted consolidated loss of Rs 57.87 crore in the corresponding quarter of the last financial year.

    The cable network improved his revenue from operations by 12.3 per cent to Rs 450.82 crore in Q3 of FY20 as compared to Rs 401.43 crore in a corresponding quarter of last year.

    Whereas, the consolidated total income for the December-ended quarter rose by 23.2 per cent to Rs 512.61 crore compared to Rs 416.07 crore in the corresponding quarter of the last financial year.

    The company reported consolidated EBITDA of Rs 128.8 crore up by 52 per cent against Rs 84.5 crore in the corresponding quarter last financial year. Meanwhile, the EBITDA margin grew by 29 per cent against 8 per cent in the same quarter of FY19.

    In the segment revenue, the broadband business grew by 2.8 per cent to Rs 143.2 crore and cable television grew by 15.4 per cent to Rs 307.62 crore in the December-ended quarter of FY20.

    The subscription revenue grew by 18 per cent to 354.8 crore against Rs 300.8 cr whereas activation revenue shrunk by 8 per cent to Rs 14.7 crore compared to Rs 16 crore and placement revenue also slumped by 6 per cent to Rs 74.7 crore versus Rs 79.1 crore in Q3 last financial year.

    Hathway CFO Vineet Garg resigns

    MUMBAI: Hathway Cable and Datacom chief financial officer (CFO) Vineet Garg has resigned effective 15 May 2018. He has also resigned as a director from the board of Hathway Bhawani Cabletel and Datacom.

    “We wish to inform you that Vineet Garg, director, has tendered his resignation with immediate effect i.e. from 30 March 2018,” Hathway Bhawani said in a filing to the BSE.

    Hathway’s release to the BSE stated: “Pursuant to Regulation 30 (6) of SEBI (Listing Obligations and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations, 2015 read with Part A of Schedule III, we wish to inform your kind office that Vineet Garg-chief financial officer (key managerial personnel) of the company has tendered his resignation and his resignation shall be effective from 15 May 2018.”

    Garg had joined Hathway in June 2014. He was promoted to CFO in February 2016 following the exit of G Subramaniam. Prior to Hathway, Garg was with Reliance Communications as national head lifecycle management – wireless operations. His career spans more than 21 years in the telecom and media industry.

  • Hathway launches ad-free value-added service

    MUMBAI: Hathway Cable and Datacom have announced the launch of a new segment– Hathway Special under its cable business. The service is currently available to only DTH subscribers. For all the Hathway subscribers, the ad-free service will be offered for a free preview starting from 9 February for 30 days.

    Hathway Special will cater to customers looking for additional services over and above broadcaster channels and will be priced between Rs. 15 to Rs. 60 per service on a monthly basis.

    “At Hathway, we take pride in being the first MSO in the country to launch exclusive and diverse Value Added Services for all our subscribers.With the addition of the new service – Hathway Special, it is our endeavour to provide services best in the industry, be it in the form of experience, quality or pricing. We are empowering our LCOs to further enhance their business in terms of earnings and efficiency with this new Value Added Service. We are sure that Hathway Special will add significant earnings to the LCO just as the Hathway Connect Portal helped in ease of business and improved efficiency for all,” said Hathway Cable and Datacom chief executive officer video business T. S. Panesar.

    The subscribers will now have a choice of viewing value added services across nine different genres including the best of blockbusters, and music videos. Additionally, devotional content and animated content for children is also available on Hathway Special. The company aims to provide at least 30 offerings under Hathway Special catering to more varied genres while expanding its reach and viewership in the months ahead.

    The MSO is also focused on making available non-linear content of the likes of Video-on-Demand (VOD) and other localised content respective to its market.

    The new services under the Hathway Special range include:

    MUMBAI: Hathway Cable and Datacom has elevated Rajaraman. S as COO of the video business. Rajaraman was the senior VP of business operations, and played an important role in streamlining the business operations of the company including the Phase-III expansion.

    With an experience of 18 years in the media & broadcasting space, Rajaraman had a long tenure with Star India’s south business as head of finance prior to joining Hathway.

    In wake of the recent changes in its management structure, the company is looking to build greater focus on its Video business to keep pace with the fast changing dynamics of the digitization regime and to grow the business in the new regulatory environment proposed by TRAI in the coming months.

    MUMBAI: The court has convened meeting of Hathway Cable and Datacom Ltd equity shareholders and Hathway Broadband Private Limited and their respective shareholders and creditors on 15 October, 2016, in Mumbai.

    The meeting is for the purpose of considering and, if thought fit, approving with or without modification(s), the demerger of the broadband business of Hathway Cable and its transfer to Hathway Broadband, Ajay Singh, head, legal, company secretary and chief compliance officer, at Hathway Cable, stated in a communiqué to the BSE and the NSE.

    The court appointed Jagdiskumar G. Pillai, Hathway Cable managing director and CEO, to be the chairman of the said meeting. The voting period begins on 11 0ctober, 2016 , at 10.00 am and ends on Friday, 14 0ctober, 2016, at 5.00 pm. Himanshu S. Kamdar, practicing company secretary, has been appointed as the scrutinizer. The results shall be declared on 17 0ctober, 2016.

    The proposed demerger of the ISP Business (defined below) from Hathway Cable to Hathway Broadband may happen upon payment of Rs. 98.05 crore by the latter to the former. The plan is to demerge the ISP Business from Hathway Cable and transfer it to vest in Hathway Broadband.

    Hathway Cable is a multi-system operator (MSO) engaged in the business of distribution of television channels. Hathway Broadband is a private limited company incorporated under the Companies Act, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Hathway Cable.

    Mauli Cable and Hathway resolve dispute, TDSAT disposes matter

    NEW DELHI: The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal has disposed of a petition by Mauli Cable Network after it informed the Tribunal that an interconnect agreement had been signed with Hathway Cable and Datacom.

    Mauli Cable counsel Tushar Singh informed the Tribunal on 8 July 2016 that a part of the sum had also been cleared and the balance would be cleared as directed by the Tribunal on 24 June 2016. Counsel Nasir Hussain of Hathway also agreed with the statement.

    The Tribunal had directed Mauli to pay upfront a sum of Rs 15 lakh to when signig a fresh interconnect agreement on 28 June at the office of the latter.

    The vacation bench of Member B B Srivastava in its order had noted that Mauli had not denied the amount of Rs 33,27,944 but that the invoice had been raised only on 6 June 2016.

    The Tribunal had directed that the balance would be paid within four weeks of its order.

    Hathway told the Tribunal that it was providing the signals to Mauli for transmission, thereby answering the question raised by Mauli which had said it was not clear who the agreement was to be signed with.
