    Netflix signs Hasan Minhaj for weekly talk show

    MUMBAI: Hasan Minhaj is set to host his own weekly talk show on Netflix that will debut later this year. Netflix has committed to a 32 episode order, making Minhaj the first Indian-American host of a weekly comedy talk show.

    Series description: Minhaj’s comedy show will explore the modern cultural and political landscape with depth and sincerity. Each week, Minhaj will bring his unique comedic voice and storytelling skill to investigate the larger trends shaping our fragmented world.

    Hasan Minhaj said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the Netflix family as the country braces for another election season. And like you, I cannot wait to find out who Putin picks this time.”

He is a brilliant performer, who is hilarious both on stage and off, and more importantly he isn’t afraid to share his thoughtful voice and unique perspective.     Bio: Last year, Minhaj earned rave reviews for his one-hour Netflix comedy special Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King, and for his performance hosting the 2017 White House Correspondents’ Dinner. He joined The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, where he was Jon’s last hire, in November 2014 as a correspondent and continued on in that role after Trevor Noah took over as host the following year. He will remain with The Daily Show through the end of July, before beginning work on this new project. In addition, Minhaj and his sketch comedy quartet, Goatface, will bring their wide-ranging brand of humor to Comedy Central for a one-hour special next year. This summer he will star in Lionsgate’s The Spy Who Dumped Me.

  • Mittal’s beauty notions to keep 100m Netflix subs in good humour

    MUMBAI: Following in the footsteps of Vir Das, Hasan Minhaj and Aziz Ansari, comedianne Aditi Mittal is preparing to do a special stand-up show for Netflix: “Things They Wouldn’t Let Me Say.” The show will debut on the video-streaming platform giant on 18 July to its over 100 million global members across 190 countries, PTI reported.

    Mittal, one of the first women in India to do stand-up comedy, touches up issues such as sex, gender, and notions about beauty in her shows. Her Netflix show is gender revolution rich with taboos of being a woman in India today.

    Netflix director of content acquisition Swati Shetty said that Aditi’s success reflected the growing pool of Indian stand-up comedy talent that was already gaining international recognition. Netflix was proud to showcase Aditi’s bold wit and humour on the Netflix service, she added.

    Having a platform such as Netflix was a dream come true for anyone in entertainment and comedy today.. The journey of the show had been absolutely exhilarating, Mittal said. She hoped that Netflix fans across the globe would enjoy the show as much as she had had while making it.

    MUMBAI: NDTV Prime is proud to present Stand Up Planet, a travelogue hosted by L.A.-based Indian American comic, Hasan Minhaj (Arrested Development, MTV’s Failosophy),  that takes viewers on a quest to find some of the best humour coming from across the world.

     

    Along the way, Minhaj follows the jokes and personal experiences of these international comics deep into the hard truths of some of the toughest global poverty issues of our time.

     

    With a posse of comedian friends, including Nate Bargatze, James Adomian and Michelle Buteau, Minhaj invites one comic from India and one from South Africa to take part in the biggest night of their lives – performing in an international comedy showcase and television show in Hollywood – after a stop to meet comedy legend Bill Cosby.

     

    NDTV Prime has partnered with KCETLink, the national independent public media organization (USA) to premiere STAND UP PLANET. The two part comedy documentary will be aired on NDTV Prime as part of the channel’s Comedy time band at 10:00pm on May 17 & May 24.
