    Airborne takes anime series ‘Robotech’ to mobile phones

    MUMBAI: Airborne Entertainment, which provides and publishes mobile entertainment content and applications, has announced a deal with Harmony Gold in the US to bring the anime series Robotech to mobile phones.

    Airborne says that this is one of the first anime series to bridge the continental gap and truly take hold in the US. The Robotech suite of wireless content will include wallpapers, ringtones and ringback tones, with a mobile game just a few steps behind. The content will be made available across major US carriers later this year.

    Airborne Entertainment president Andy Nulman says, “As the embrace between the wireless community and the general entertainment world becomes tighter, we strongly believe that successful narrative franchises like Robotech will continue to cross over to mobile gen. Our deal with Harmony Gold is a great example of this trend and we are extremely excited to be the ones to take the Robotech franchise mobile.”

    For over 20 years, Robotech has helped to lay the groundwork for anime’s acceptance outside Japan. Like a lot of anime shows it is based on the solid foundation of narrative and characters along with action sequences. Airborne says that Robotech has spearheaded the genre’s foray into theatrical imports, American remakes, specialised anime television networks and a full spectrum of influences on domestic pop culture. “We can’t wait to see the impact it has on wireless,” Nulman concluded.

    MUMBAI: In honor of the United Nations’ 60th anniversary this year, the UN will debut a special public service announcement (PSA) at MIPTV this year.

    The 60 second spot, produced by Harmony Gold, is part of a broader effort to increase awareness of the work of the UN during this special period culminating with the 60th opening session of the UN General Assembly in the fall. The unique element to this PSA however is that, instead of featuring a celebrity, the PSA features characters from Harmony Gold’s classic anime series Robotech making it the first animated PSA for the UN in many years.

    “When we approached the UN with the idea of doing an animated PSA, they were very excited. They feel this is a unique way of contributing to the UN’s message of peace at a time when the world really needs it and, because it is animation, it will ultimately be broadcast on networks catering to a younger audience who will benefit from hearing the positive message,” said Harmony Gold chairman and CEO Frank Agrama.

    Harmony Gold approached Caroline Petit from the UN at last year’s MIPTV offering to produce the PSA to commemorate its upcoming anniversary. Having just begun production on an animated film, Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, a sequel to its hit anime series, Robotech, Harmony Gold approached its production partners to help create the PSA believing that this would be a great way to honor the people of the UN.

    The UN and Harmony Gold will begin distributing the spot at MIP TV 2005 and it will additionally be available for viewing on the www.robotech.com website.

  • Harmony Gold laughs it up at Miptv

     MUMBAI: Television production and distribution company Harmony Gold is all geared up to laugh its way to Cannes next month with two new films. Television marketplace MipTV takes place from 11-15 April 2005 at Cannes.
     

    The first film being offered by Harmony Gold is Death To The Supermodels. Starring Jamie Pressly and Brooke Burns the film is a sexy comedy about supermodels gathered for a photo shoot on a deserted island. Meanwhile Siblings with Alex Campbell and Sarah Polley is a dark comedy about love, lust, murder and other issues of “normal” family life.

    Harmony Gold has all international rights to these films, including theatrical, broadcast (free and pay) and DVD distribution rights.
     
     

    The stage is set for titillation, comedy and suspense, because someone in this group is determined to bring Death To The Supermodels.     MUMBAI: Harmony Gold?s five MIP market premieres now has a basket of goodies to offer, including a prestigious documentary, a modern screwball comedy and high-speed motorcycle action.

    The Arrangement, said Wohl, “is this year’s Bend It Like Beckham meetingMy Big Fat Greek Wedding.” It is a romantic comedy that is light and witty, the cast, includes Lisa Ray and Kal Pen and is a tale of vibrant young adults struggling to find themselves, and love, under the glare of old-fashioned parents.
