    AdAsia 2021: Ramesh Narayan inducted into AFAA Hall of Fame

    Mumbai: Canco Advertising founder and Indian advertising doyen Ramesh Narayan was inducted into the prestigious Asian Federation of Advertising Associations (AFAA) Hall of Fame at the inaugural session of the AdAsia conference being held at Macao between 3 and 4 December.

    Thanking AFAA for the honour, Narayan said, “I have had the amazing experience to be a part of an industry that keeps the wheels of our economies moving. That ensures more employment across the world. That gives individuals the right to choose. That educates, and entertains and spreads awareness.”

    The first day of the conference being held as a virtual event this year, was streamed into a hybrid event held at Mumbai to present the AFAA awards.

    The event also saw Pradeep Guha posthumously inducted into the AFAA Hall of Fame for 2019 and Srinivasan Swamy being presented with the AFAA Special Merit Award for 2019. Swamy was recently elected AFAA chairman for a term of four years. 

    “The AFAA Hall of Fame sets out to recognise the best of the very best. It’s for those who’ve defined a generation of advertising.  Those who we look up to, who inspire us. Who have done what few others have ever done or could ever do. For those who have pioneered. Those who have been on top, stayed there and will always be there. The very few we can call legends,” said outgoing AFAA chairman Raymond So.

    Narayan has earlier been honoured by the Advertising Agencies Association of India (AAAI) with their Lifetime Achievement Award, the International Advertising Association (Global) with their Global Champion Award, the India Chapter of the IAA with an induction into their Hall of Fame, the Public Relations Society of India with their Special Award, and the Association of Business Communicators of India (ABCI) with their Lifetime Achievement Award.

The very few we can call legends,” said AFAA chairman, Raymond So.

    “Ramesh Narayan is a legend who has the ability to look past what’s ‘good enough’ and focus on making everything ‘better than it has to be’,” he further said.

    He added, “Ramesh is known for his integrity and truthfulness. He is a true leader who generously gave his time to build a better future for the advertising industry and social causes. Ramesh is a gentleman and role model.”

    “I am really happy that AFAA has chosen Ramesh for their highest award. A well-earned recognition for all his self-effacing hard work, real commitment, continuous guidance and voluntary support that he has provided AFAA for over two decades,” said  IAA Global immediate past chairman & world president, and AFAA vice-chairman, Srinivasan Swamy. “It is not wrong to say that he was one of the builders of AFAA, to what it is today. I do hope he will continue to guide the Asian industry, the way he only can!”

    MUMBAI: The Advertising Club Calcutta, the oldest advertising club in India, has inducted Agnello Dias, co-founder and Chief Creative Officer – Taproot Dentsu, into its ‘Hall of Fame’ for the year 2019.

    The other famed recipients who have been inducted with this honour earlier include names such as Alyque Padamsee (Lintas), R.K.Swamy (BBDO Advertising), Ram Sehgal (Contract), Ms. Simone Tata (Trent Ltd), Mohammad Khan (Enterprise), Mike Khanna (HTA), A.G.Krishnamurthy (Mudra Communications), Arun Nanda (Rediffusion DY&R), Dr. V.J.Kurien (Amul), Roda Mehta (O&M), Aroon Purie (India Today), Ranjan Kapur (WPP India), Sam Balsara (Madison India), Prem Mehta (Lintas), R Balki (Lowe), Prasoon Joshi (McCann) and Piyush Pandey (Ogilvy & Mather) amongst others.

    Speaking on being inducted into the Hall of Fame, Dias said, “It is a privilege to be in the shadow of giants and I am grateful that an institution as respected as the Ad Club of Calcutta considered me worthy of this honour. It feels a tad intimidating to be honest and am truly grateful to the many hands that guided me along this journey.”

    Established in 1953, Advertising Club Calcutta is a non-profit society that has been catering to the advertising fraternity of Kolkata for the past 62 years. 45 years ago, it hosted India’s first advertising symposium. Today it remains a relevant and engaging platform that encourages fellowship among the fraternity through a plethora of programmes like debates, corporate quiz shows, educational workshops(Masterclass), etc.

    Advertising Club Calcutta recognises and awards not just creativity or the strategy behind campaigns but also iconic professionals through bestowing the Hall of Fame. It is the highest and the most prestigious award that is given periodically to leading advertising professionals

    ICC to induct Martin Crowe in Hall of Fame

    MUMBAI: New Zealand great Martin Crowe, one of the most stylish and elegant batsmen of his generation, will be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 match between New Zealand and Australia at Eden Park in Auckland on 28 February.

     

    When Crowe receives his commemorative cap from ICC director and chairman of Cricket Australia, Wally Edwards, during the innings break, he will become the 79th inductee into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame and third New Zealand player after Sir Richard Hadlee and Debbie Hockley.

     

    Crowe made his international debut against Australia in Wellington in February 1982 at the age of 19. He retired 13 years later after playing 77 Tests, scoring 5,444 runs at an average of 45.36. This included 17 centuries (the most by a New Zealand cricketer), while his 299 against Sri Lanka in Wellington in January 1991 stood as a national record until Brendon McCullum scored 302 against India in Wellington last year in February.

     

    Crowe also played 143 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) in which he scored 4,704 runs at an average of 38.55 with four centuries and 34 half-centuries. He played in three ICC Cricket World Cups, and led New Zealand to the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 1992 where his side lost to eventual champion Pakistan in Auckland. However, his innovative captaincy and most runs in the series won him player of the ICC Cricket World Cup 1992 award. Crowe captained New Zealand in 16 Tests and 44 ODIs.

     

    Last week in Melbourne, former India Test captain Anil Kumble and Australia’s Betty Wilson were inducted in the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

    WWE legend Ultimate Warrior passes away

    MUMBAI: In a rude shock to the WWE universe, news broke that the latest and much deserved inductee to the Hall of Fame class of 2014, The Ultimate Warrior is no more.

     

    A press statement from the company said: “WWE is shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the passing of one of the most iconic WWE Superstars ever, The Ultimate Warrior.”

     

    Warrior began his WWE career in 1987 and quickly went on to become one of the biggest stars in WWE history. Warrior became WWE Champion at WrestleMania VI, defeating Hulk Hogan in an epic encounter.

     

    “We are grateful that just days ago, Warrior had the opportunity to take his rightful place in the WWE Hall of Fame and was also able to appear at WrestleMania 30 and Monday Night Raw to address his legions of fans. WWE sends its sincere condolences to Warrior’s family, friends and fans,” the release added.

     

    Death is always a sobering topic to deal with. In Warrior’s case, however, it was his final public appearance – eerily serving as own eulogy – on Monday Night Raw and a quote that will forever send chills down the spines, “Every man’s heart one day beats it final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath.”

     

    Warrior was 54 and is survived by his wife Dana and his two daughters.

    Ramesh Narayan inducted into IAA Hall of Fame

    MUMBAI: On 1st. March 2014, at a glittering ceremony in Mumbai to award marketers, media leaders and advertising achievers, the International Advertising Association (IAA) inducted Ramesh Narayan into its Hall of Fame.

     

    This is the highest honor given to a recipient by the IAA.

     

    Kaushik Roy, President Marketing Reliance Industries Ltd. read out the citation where the achievements of Ramesh Narayan were listed. These included the leadership role he played in associations like the Advertising Club, the Advertising Agencies Association of India, Asian Federation of Advertising Associations and the International Advertising Association. It commended him for being an influential force in establishing and nurturing creative awards in the country and for being a dominant factor behind the conduct of the AdAsia 2003 in Jaipur and AdAsia 2011 in New Delhi. It also recalled the decisive role he has played in the Audit Bureau of Circulations and the National Readership Survey and mentioned his thought leadership which helped institure the IAA’s flagship projets Lighting a Billion Lives, IAA Olive Crown Awards and the IAA leadership Awards. Finally, it referred to his journalistic achievements and to his social bent of mind.

     

    Ramesh Narayan said he was humbled to receive this great honor. Saying that the industry needed heroes to inspire the younger generation, he accepted the award on behalf “of those unsung heroes whose little contributions have made a big impact” on the industry.

     

    Srinivasan Swamy President IAA said “I am delighted that this award could be conferred on Ramesh in my term as President.”

     

    The IAA is a unique partnership of marketers, advertising agencies and the media with a robust presence in 77 countries across the globe.

    DMAi’s Hall of Fame is modeled along the lines of DMA Hall of Fame, the most prestigious award bestowed in the direct & interactive marketing community. DMAi Hall of Fame will felicitate lifetime achievers in two categories – living & posthumous and as many as four individuals can be inducted every year to serve as an inspiration for future generations and encourage excellence.

The new recipients & inductees will be honored at a glittering ceremony on 23 Jan 2014 at the opulent Radisson blu, Mahipalpur, Delhi on the sidelines the 3rd Annual DMAi Convention. Apart from the awards program the 3 day convention from 22nd to 24 Jan will have 100+ speakers, 164 intense sessions, 15 Dynamic Conference streams.

    MUMBAI: Intelsat has announced that Intelsat Ltd., Board of Directors chairman (retired) Conny Kullman, is a 2007 inductee to the Society of Satellite Professionals International (SSPI) Satellite Hall of Fame.

     
    SSPI will induct its new Hall of Fame members at an invitational ceremony on 20 February, immediately before the start of the annual SSPI Gala, held on the opening day of the Satellite 2007 Conference and Exhibition in Washington, D.C., informs an official release.

    “Conny led Intelsat through its privatization and began the challenging task of transforming the company from an intergovernmental organization to a commercial company, positioning Intelsat to become the leading global satellite operator,” said Intelsat CEO Dave McGlade. “His many achievements throughout his career shaped Intelsat and the industry.”

     
    The release adds that Kullman led Intelsat and its global employee base through its privatization, and its metamorphosis into a highly competitive operator. In addition, he was a driving force behind commercial, operational and engineering changes during his tenure as Intelsat’s chief executive officer from 1998-2005. Under his leadership, Kullman implemented a terrestrial strategy resulting in the development of Intelsat’s GlobalConnex portfolio suite of services, which now represents approximately $130 million in annual revenues.

    In addition, Kullman led a $2.5 billion, three year fleet replenishment campaign that increased available capacity in growth markets. In 2003, Kullman was at the helm when Intelsat announced its acquisition of the North American satellites of Loral Space and Communications, providing Intelsat with access to the North American market and completing Intelsat’s global system.

    In 2004, Kullman recognized the opportunity to achieve the goals of the Orbit Act while at the same time obtaining premium shareholder returns, by conducting an LBO process which resulted in the acquisition of Intelsat by a consortium of private equity firms at a competitive price. Kullman capped his career in 2005 as chairman of Intelsat, playing a critical role in the completion of Intelsat’s acquisition of PanAmSat.
