    Cinekorn acquires Asia distribution rights of ‘Airlift’ from B4U

    MUMBAI: Cinekorn Entertainment has acquired the Asian distribution rights of Akshay Kumar’s new film Airlift from B4U Television, which is the official international distributor of the film.

     

    Produced by Emmay Entertainment, Airlift is based on the true events of the world’s biggest evacuation from Kuwait in 1990. The film released on 22 January, 2016 and Cinekorn Entertainment is distributing the film in all major areas of the continent.

     

    Cinekorn Entertainment’s Kalapi Nagada said, “Asia has always been a splurging market for Hindi Films and the numbers are increasing day by day as more of non ethnic audiences have been getting glued to Hindi films. We have acquired the film from B4U Television, who is the official international distributor of the film Airlift. We are very positive and confident on the film since in the past Akshay Kumar with Singh is Bliing and Baby has become very popular among local audiences. In fact, we plan to go all out in terms of release spread for Airlift from the growing popularity of the past Akshay Kumar films.”

     

    Prior to this, Cinekorn acquired distribution rights for films like Jazbaa, Singh is Bliing, Happy New Year and Haider. These movies were screened in theatres in Sri Lanka, UAE, Malaysia and Singapore.

     

    Directed by Raja Menon, Airlift stars Nimrat Kaur opposite Kumar.

    NEW DELHI: The Kangana Ranaut-starrer Queen and Shahid Kapoor-starrer Haider, both of which had won National Awards for 2014, dominated the awards at the glittering finale of the 16th India International Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Malaysia. Videocon

     

    Queen bagged awards for best film, best performance by Ranaut, and best story by Vikas Bahl, Chaitally Parmar & Parvez Shaikh.Haider was a winner for best performance by Kapoor, best performance for a negative role for Kay Kay Menon, and best supporting actress Tabu.

     

    Heropanti, which introduced Jackie Shroff’s son Tiger Shroff won two awards: one for best male debut by the junior Shroff and the best debut female for Kirti Sanon.

     

    Another film, which won two awards was Ek Villain: for the song ‘Galliyan’ by Ankit Tiwari and for male supporting actor Riteish Deshmukh.

     

    Umang Kumar won the best direction for Mary Kom though many had hoped lead Priyanka Chopra may win the best actress award.

     

    Contrary to expectations, Aamir Khan’s PK won just one award: for its director Rajkumar Hirani.

     

    The other winners were: Best debut direction: Sajid Nadiadwsla for Kick; Best music direction: Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy for 2 States; Best playback singer- female: Kanika Kapoor for Baby Doll (Ragini MMS2); Best performance in a comic role: Varun Dhavan forMain Tera Hero; and Best regional film: Lai Bhaari.

     

    Eminent film-maker Subhash Ghai was awarded for his Outstanding Contribution to Indian Cinema. “So many emotions I am going through, so many memories. That is why you fall, then rise, then rise again. Thank you, IIFA,” he said.

     

    Deepika Padukone won an award for IIFA Woman of the Year and Ranveer Singh recited a poem for her.

     

    The S Cross IIFA Awards was held at the Stadium Putra in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. For the first time ever, Bollywood’s hilarious duo- the talented actors Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor played host to the awards ceremony. The twosome won over audiences and industry members alike, leaving those present in splits with their witty quips, perfect comic timing and laudable on-stage camaraderie.

     

    Their opening performance was a medley of iconic Jodi songs – Mein Khiladi Tu Anaari, Dola Re Dola, Mere Do Anmol Ratan where the two donned outlandish costumes keeping the audience in tears of laughter. They were joined on stage by Rakhi Sawant, who took the entertainment quotient to another level.

     

    Bollywood’s ace dancers Hrithik Roshan and Shahid Kapoor stunned audiences with their performances and dance moves. More highlights of the night were Sonakshi Sinha, who who stole the show with her singing act, Parineeti Chopra’s mesmerising performance on Pareshaan, Baby Doll, Lovely and Drama Queen and Shraddha Kapoor’s act on Khalnayak Hu Mein, Choli Ke Piche Kya Hai and Om Shanti Om – a tribute to Subhash Ghai. Anushka Sharma gave a spell-binding performance on songs from her film Bombay Velvet.

     NEW DELHI: The Shahid Kapoor starrer Haider has swept the Technical awards of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), bagging as many as six awards. 

     

    This year’s Videocon D2H IIFA Weekend celebrations are slated from 5 – 7 June in Kuala Lumpur.

     

    Awards won by Haider are Costume Designing (Dolly Ahluwalia), Background Score (Vishal Bhardwaj), Sound Mixing (Debajit Changmai), Sound Design (Shajith Koyeri), Production Design (Subrata Chakraborty & Amit Ray) and Make-up (Preetisheel Singh & Clover Wootton).

     

    Queen and Kick won two awards each. While Queen took home the award for Screenplay (Vikas Bahl, Chaitally Parmar, Parveez Shaikh) and Editing (Anurag Kashyap and Abhijit Kokate), Kick walked away with awards for Choreography (Ahmed Khan) and Special Effects – Visual (Reupal Rawal). 

     

    Ek Villian won for Song Recording (Eric Pillai) and PK got the honour for Dialogue (Abhijit Joshi & Rajkumar Hirani). The film 2 States won an award for Cinematography (Binod Pradhan) and Bang Bang took home an accolade for Action (Parvez Shaikh and Andy Armstrong).

     

    The IIFA Voting process is monitored by KPMG, the official auditors for the event.

    MUMBAI: The six-year old baby, Colors is on a winning spree. The channel, which snatched Stardust Awards from Sony Entertainment Television (SET) in 2014, has now acquired the television rights to International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards from Star Plus, after 15 years.

     

    With this acquisition, Colors now has both, an Indian and international award show, in its kitty.

     

    The channel has partnered with Wizcraft International Entertainment to acquire complete broadcast rights of the show, which will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 5-7 June, 2015. 

     

    Colors will collaborate with IIFA to combine programming and marketing efforts to mount this year’s IIFA on a wider canvas reaching out to more viewers around 135 countries across all screens – TV, mobile and PC.

     

    Colors CEO Raj Nayak said, “Over the years, the IIFA Awards has become a global cultural phenomenon that has put Indian cinema on the global radar and we are proud to be associated with it. With the inclusion of IIFA Awards to our bouquet of offerings, Colors will now curate exceptional entertainment offerings capturing best of Indian film industry.     Recently, the awards announced the list of nominations with 2 States leading the list with a total of nine nominations. National award winning film Haider got eight nominations, while Rajkumar Hirani’s PK, which did wonders at the box office, garnered six nominations. Kangana Ranaut’s Queen has managed to garner five nominations in the popular categories.

     

    With events like IIFA Rocks, Magic of the Movies, IIFA World Premiere and the IIFA Awards, the weekend celebrates various elements such as fashion, music and world-class acting that make watching Indian films a truly magical experience.

    MUMBAI: The 16th edition of the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards has announced the list of nominations in the popular category. The Videocon d2h IIFA Weekend & Awards will take place at Stadium Putra in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 5-7 June, 2015.

     
    Leading the polls is 2 States with nine nominations followed closely by Vishal Bhardwaj’s hard-hitting Haider, which garnered eight nominations. Rajkumar Hirani’sPK achieved six nominations and the naively stirring Kangana Ranaut starrer Queenreceived five nominations. Some of the other noteworthy mentions this year are Imtiaz Ali’s Highway and Ek Villain.

     

    Wizcraft International Entertainment director Andre Timmins said, “It is amazing how Indian cinema is growing strength by strength every year. It has been a spectacular year for Indian cinema across genres of films and a multitude of talent on and off screen. Some of the biggest films are contending for awards this year and the nominations reflect the talent and achievements of our Indian film industry.”

     

    Contenders for the Leading Role Male this year are Shah Rukh Khan (Happy New Year), Aamir Khan (PK), Hrithik Roshan (Bang Bang), Arjun Kapoor (2 States), Shahid Kapoor (Haider) and Randeep Hooda (Highway). The Leading Role Female category will see Deepika Padukone (Happy New Year), Priyanka Chopra (Mary Kom), Rani Mukherji (Mardaani), Anushka Sharma (PK), Kangana Ranaut (Queen) and Alia Bhatt (2 States) vying for the award this year.

     

    The best director category sees a host of nominees like Vikas Bahl (Queen), Vishal Bhardwaj (Haider), Rajkumar Hirani (PK), Abhishek Varman (2 States) and Imtiaz Ali’s (Highway).

    NEW DELHI: Although India dominated the Asian Film Awards nominations with three Indian films shortlisted for seven awards, it managed to walk away with just one award: Mikey McCleary got the best composer award for Margarita, With a Straw.

     

    Korean talent received rounds of applause at a lavish ceremony in Macau, but the biggest prizes at the Awards went to the Chinese. 

     

    The Best film went to Lou Ye’s Blind Massage, while Ann Hui was named as best director for The Golden Era.

     

    The biggest cheers of the evening, however, went to the veteran Korean director Im Kwon-taek, who collected a lifetime achievement award.

     

    The event had been transferred from Hong Kong to Macau last year for the first time, and it is the second year the awards have been organized and presented as a joint effort by three film festivals — Hong Kong, Busan and Tokyo.

     

    A total of 42 Asian films competed for 14 categories.  

     

    From India, Haider had four nominations: Best Film, Best Director Vishal Bhardwaj, Best Supporting Actress Tabu, and Best Production Design.

     

    Kalki Koechlin was also nominated for her performance in Margarita, With a Straw.

     

    Court, which got the best National Film Award this year was nominated for director Chaitanya Tamhane’s screenplay.

     

    Im Kwon-taek is the longest-working director in South Korea, and has directed 102 films since 1962. His latest film Revivre screened at the Hong Kong International Film Festival earlier this month.

     

    Past recipients of the AFA’s Lifetime Achievement Award include Amitabh Bachchan, Ann Hui and Raymond Chow.

     

    Im Kwon-taek (born May 2, 1936) is one of South Korea’s most renowned film directors. As of spring 2013, he has directed 101 films.

    MUMBAI: Held at Reliance MediaWorks, the Renault Star Guild Awards 2015 announced the winners in film and television for the year 2014. The night was hosted by Kapil Sharma, who entertained the audience with his quick wit and rib-tickling humor.

     

    ‘PK’ won best film along with best director, best dialogue, best sound mixing and a special award for the more than 100 crore film. Shahid Kapoor won for best actor for his performance in ‘Haider’ while Priyanka Chopra walked away with the award for best actress in ‘Mary Kom’.

     

    Superstars like Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Alia Bhatt, Jacqueline Fernandes and Shahid Kapoor set the stage on fire with their magical performances.

     

    Rakesh Roshan received the lifetime achievement award that was presented to him by Jeetendra and Hrithik Roshan. Deepika Padukone walked away with the entertainer of the year award and Alia Bhatt won the Gionee most stylish youth icon award. The Star Plus shining superstar award went to Shraddha Kapoor.
