Pika-boost for Titans as Pokémon powers up 2025 fan experience

MUMBAI: Gotta catch that crowd! The Gujarat Titans got a supercharged fan boost this IPL season courtesy of Pokémon. As part of an electrifying tie-up for the 2025 league, Pikachu turned up in full Titans gear, spreading sparks from grassroots warm-ups to stadium selfies. The yellow mascot didn’t just show up he showed out. Ahead of the season, Pokémon integrated with the franchise’s Junior Titans programme, a unique under-14 initiative held across five cities in Gujarat. The big moment? A surprise visit by Pikachu himself at the Ahmedabad centre, leading warm-up drills to the upbeat rhythm of Japan’s Radio Taiso Number One, much to the delight of the young cricketers.

During the league, Pokémon took over the Narendra Modi Stadium, with a vibrant booth drawing in over 42,000 visitors across seven home matches. Kids collected free Pikachu stickers, posed for photos with the mascot, and watched their yellow hero dance and dazzle in a Gujarat Titans jersey.

Some lucky fans from the Junior Titans squad were also invited to meet Pikachu on game day, a crossover moment that blurred the lines between fantasy and fandom.

“From the Junior Titans initiative to in-stadium experiences, young fans were excited to interact with Pikachu in Gujarat Titans colours,” said Gujarat Titans COO Colonel Arvinder Singh. “It added a unique dimension to our 2025 campaign.”

The action spilled beyond the pitch. At Nexus One mall in Ahmedabad, Pokémon hosted a ‘Pokémon Fiesta’, featuring dance shows and games, while Pokémon GO players spotted Gujarat Titans logos on in-game Poké Stops across the city.

The Pokémon Company corporate officer Susumu Fukunaga noted: “We were able to tap into a new audience we hadn’t reached before. From young cricketers to fans in Ahmedabad, the response was energising.”

With the Titans reaching the Playoffs, and Pikachu stealing hearts at every turn, this unexpected collab proved one thing: cricket and cartoons make a shockingly good team.

  • Cricket Icons bowled into play with miniature stars and mega fanfare

Cricket Icons bowled into play with miniature stars and mega fanfare

MUMBAI: Mini but mighty and ready to take a wicket in your living room. As cricket fever grips the nation, a new league of legends has entered the fray this time, not on the field but on your shelf. Pune-based startup Infinity Toy Tronics (ITT) has launched Cricket Icons, India’s first official line of collectible miniatures featuring players from top IPL teams like Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, Gujarat Titans, and Rajasthan Royals.

The project, fuelled by fan obsession and startup hustle, marks a significant leap in India’s sports memorabilia landscape, one where a tiny Hardik Pandya or Rohit Sharma might just be your next prized possession.

Founded by three cricket-crazed first-gen entrepreneurs Rikesh Raja, Saurabh Gajbi, and Pratik Agrawal across three continents, ITT was born out of a shared frustration: why had cricket, India’s biggest sporting passion, never had its own Marvel-style merch moment?

“Growing up, we all played with Marvel heroes, Power Rangers, or football action figures but cricket, despite being India’s biggest sport, never had its own space in the collectables world,” said Infinity Toy Tronics Director Saurabh Gajbi. “With Cricket Icons, we saw an opportunity to not only fill that gap but also spark a revolution in the Indian toy industry. Unlike seasonal merchandise, these collectables have year-round appeal, driven by deep-rooted team loyalties and fan passion. It’s more than just a toy it’s a cultural connection and a step toward building a sustainable, homegrown ecosystem for sports memorabilia in India,” he added while talking about these IP-based collectables.

Thanks to Rise Worldwide, the team inked a three-year deal with major franchises, and they’ve got the distribution to match. Aditi Toys handles B2C and D2C routes, Neha Creations takes care of B2B, and the toys are already available across Amazon, Flipkart, Swiggy Instamart, and Zepto. For old-school charm, you’ll find them in Hamleys and local stores from metro malls to Tier 3 town bazaars.

The line includes single figurines priced at Rs 249, team packs at Rs 649, and upcoming action figures at Rs 699. Each one is crafted with 90–95 per cent likeness and doubles as a digital key. Scan the QR code on the toy to unlock player avatars, quizzes, loyalty rewards, and challenges on the Cricket Icons app. Fans can win match tickets, signed memorabilia, and more adding serious value to their shelf-space superstars.

Beyond the toys, it’s a larger mission. ITT’s strategy ties into the government’s 1 billion dollars toy economy vision under Atmanirbhar Bharat.

With a million-unit sales target for 2025, Cricket Icons is already swinging for the fences creating not just figurines, but fan stories, one miniature at a time.

India’s Competition Commission clears Torrent’s acquisition of Gujarat Titans

MUMBAI:  The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved Torrent Investments Pvt Ltd’s acquisition of a controlling stake in the Gujarat Titans cricket franchise, marking a significant development in Indian Premier League ownership.

Under the approved deal, Torrent will acquire a 67 per cent stake in Irelia Sports India Pvt Ltd ,  which owns and operates the Gujarat Titans. The regulatory body noted that the transaction raises no competition concerns, as there are no horizontal overlaps or vertical relationships between the parties’ business activities.

Torrent Group, a diversified conglomerate with interests spanning pharmaceuticals, power generation, healthcare, and city gas distribution, views the acquisition as a strategic move to enhance its brand presence. The company stated that the investment aligns with its strategy of acquiring “high-value, scalable assets that offer consistent returns.”

The target company, Irelia Sports, manages the Gujarat Titans franchise along with its associated revenue streams, including match ticketing, team merchandising, and advertising rights. The acquisition has been notified under Section 6(4) of the Competition Act, 2002.

A spokesperson for Torrent Group noted that the acquisition would help the company connect with a broader demographic through cricket, India’s most popular sport. The deal represents one of the most significant ownership changes in the IPL’s recent history.

The CCI’s swift approval suggests a straightforward review process, given the distinct nature of the acquirer’s existing business portfolio and the target’s sports-focused operations. The transaction value remains undisclosed, though industry experts suggest it reflects the growing valuations of IPL franchises.
