    Warner Bros. & Hasbro partner on ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ movie

    MUMBAI: Warner Bros. Pictures, Hasbro’s Allspark Pictures and Sweetpea Entertainment are moving forward on a feature film franchise based on Dungeons & Dragons, the popular role playing game.

     

    Hasbro’s Brian Goldner and Stephen Davis, Courtney Solomon and Allan Zeman of Sweetpea Entertainment, and Roy Lee are attached as producers.

     

    Highlighting the priority being given to the project, Warner Bros. Pictures already has a script, written by David Leslie Johnson.

     

    “We are so excited about bringing the world of Dungeons & Dragons to life on the big screen. This is far and away the most well-known brand in fantasy, which is the genre that drives the most passionate film followings. D&D has endless creative possibilities, giving our filmmakers immense opportunities to delight and thrill both fans and moviegoers new to the property,” said Warner Bros. Pictures president, creative development and worldwide production Greg Silverman.

     

    “This is such an enormous opportunity to bring the rich fantasy setting of the Forgotten Realms to life and, together with the creative powerhouse of Warner Bros., use movies to tell the stories that have enchanted passionate D&D fans for decades. D&D is the role-playing game that started it all and now we have the opportunity to ignite a franchise for its legions of avid fans in a way never done before,” added Hasbro, Inc executive vice president and chief content officer Stephen Davis.

     

    Dungeons & Dragons first became popular in 1974, and since then has amassed millions of players and fans worldwide. The property has also influenced numerous writers, directors, game designers, and other creative professionals throughout its four decades.

     

    “We are thrilled that this beloved property can finally make its way to the big screen after 20 years, and that it can be realized by Warner Bros., which has been responsible for the biggest fantasy franchises over the past two decades,” said Sweetpea Entertainment’s Courtney Solomon.

     

    The announcement also reflects the resolution of Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast LLC’s complaint against Sweetpea Entertainment, Inc. and Sweetpea BVI, Ltd. and the counterclaims filed by Sweetpea against Hasbro in May 2013 related to the Dungeons & Dragon brand.

     

    All rights for future Dungeons & Dragons productions have been unified and returned to Wizards of the Coast, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hasbro.

    MUMBAI: Katherine Waterston will star opposite Eddie Redmayne in Warner Bros. Pictures’ Harry Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, set in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding world.

     

    Waterston will play the pivotal role of Tina, short for Porpentina, a witch who – unlike the beloved characters from Rowling’s Harry Potter books – works her magic in the U.S. She meets magizoologist Newt Scamander (Redmayne) when he stops in New York City on his travels to find and document magical creatures.

     

    Warner Bros. Pictures president of creative development and worldwide production Greg Silverman said, “Katherine Waterston is a rising star, who was a revelation in our film Inherent Vice, earning the praise of both critics and audiences. We are thrilled to have her back in the Warner Bros. family, especially in one of our most anticipated titles for 2016, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

     

    David Yates (director of the last four Harry Potter films) will direct from Rowling’s screenplay, inspired by Newt Scamander’s Hogwarts textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

     

    The film is being produced by David Heyman, producer of all eight Harry Potter features; Rowling; Steve Kloves, who scripted all but one of the Harry Potter films; and Lionel Wigram, who served as an executive producer on the last four installments of the franchise.

     

    Waterston recently starred in Paul Thomas Anderson’s Inherent Vice, for which she shared in an Independent Spirit Award for Best Ensemble. She also stars in the upcoming biopic Steve Jobs, under the direction of Danny Boyle.

     

    Warner Bros. Pictures will release Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 3D and Imax on 18 November, 2016.

    MUMBAI: James Wan will direct Warner Bros. Pictures’ upcoming Aquaman feature film, which stars Jason Momoaas the sea-dwelling Super Hero.

     

    Warner Bros. Pictures president, creative development and worldwide production Greg Silverman said, “We’ve been so lucky to have worked with James, first on New Line’s The Conjuring and now on their upcoming The Conjuring 2,and are thrilled to have him on board as we continue to expand our DC slate. The Aquaman film will be a major tentpole picture for us and James’s span of work has proven him able to take on any manner of project, bringing his incredible creative talent and unique voice to the material.”

     

    Wan will also be supervising the script by Kurt Johnstad. The film is being produced by Charles Roven, Deborah Snyder and Zack Snyder.

     

    Rovensaid, “James is not only a great storyteller but can make action truly explode on the big screen, and Jason has a dynamic presence that commands your attention.Together, they willbring an undeniable vitality and energy to this characteras he headlines his first feature film.”

     

    Currently set for a 2018 release, the film is based on characters appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment.

    Clint Eastwood to direct film on heroic pilot Chesley Sullenberger

    MUMBAI: Clint Eastwood will helm Warner Bros. Pictures’ as-yet-untitled drama about the life of Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who became an American hero when he landed his disabled jet on the Hudson River,saving the lives of everyone aboard.

     

    Eastwood will direct the film from a screenplay by Todd Komarnicki, based on the book Highest Duty: My Search for What Really Matters, by Sullenberger and Jeffrey Zaslow. The film is being produced by Eastwood and Tim Moore, for Malpaso; Frank Marshall, under the Kennedy/Marshall banner; and Allyn Stewart, for Flashlight Films. Flashlight’s Kipp Nelson and RatPac-Dune’s Steven Mnuchin are serving as executive producers.

     

    Warner Bros.     The film will go beyond Sullenberger’s almost impossible and much-heralded achievement of safely landing a jumbo jet on the water, which was captured on video and viewed around the world.But behind the scenes, a drama was unfolding that could have cost him his reputation and his wings.

     

    Sullenberger said, “I am very glad my story is in the hands of gifted storyteller and filmmaker Clint Eastwood, and veteran producers Allyn Stewart and Frank Marshall.The project could not have found a better home than Warner Bros. Pictures. This is truly a dream team.”

    Eddie Redmayne cast in Warner Bros’ wizarding world adventure

    MUMBAI: Academy Award-winning actor Eddie Redmayne has been cast as Newt Scamander in Warner Bros. Pictures’ wizarding world adventure Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

     

    Redmayne will play J.K. Rowling’s creation Newt Scamander, the Wizarding World’s preeminent magizoologist, who in his travels has encountered and documented a myriad of magical creatures, ultimately leading to his penning the Hogwarts School textbook Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.

     

    Warner Bros. Pictures president of creative development and worldwide production Greg Silverman said, “Eddie Redmayne has emerged as one of today’s most extraordinarily talented and acclaimed actors. We are thrilled to welcome him into J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World, where we know he will deliver a remarkable performance as Newt Scamander, the central character in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.”

     

    Making her screenwriting debut on the film, Rowling has developed the character of Scamander and his primer – taken from her Harry Potter series – to further explore the unique wizarding world she has crafted in print and bring it to life on screen.

    Redmayne won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in the 2014 biopic The Theory of Everything. His stunning portrayal of Stephen Hawking in that film also brought him Screen Actors Guild, BAFTA and Golden Globe Awards.

     

    Warner Bros. Pictures will release Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in 3D and Imax on 18 November, 2016.

    Django Unchained stars DiCaprio and Foxx come together again

    MUMBAI: After the recent restructuring at Warner Bros‘ worldwide feature production arm, Greg Silverman has struck his maiden big deal and acquired the rights of the upcoming Craig Zahler crime novel Mean Business On North Ganson Street. The production house is gearing to reunite the Django Unchained lead stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx for the big screen adaptation.

    As reported, Zahler will be penning the script while DiCaprio and his Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson Killoran will be financially backing the project as producers. Sarah Schechter is navigating the project for the studio.

    The adaptation of the book which is in the process of being shopped to publishers will feature Dicaprio as the tough sleuth who is tipped off by a man about his missing wife and that she is a hooker who disappeared with his money. The story further takes course when the man commits a desperate tragic act right in the squad room and the disgraced detective is sent to a conflagration belt town called Victory, Missouri, where violent crime is skyrocketing. Partnered with an equally bad-assed detective who was demoted for publicly brutalizing a suspect (Foxx), the new partners get to do some real work. Police officers start showing up dead execution-style, and the cops think it might be open season on Victory‘s police department.

    Foxx will recently be seen opposite Channing Tatum in the Roland Emmerich-directed White House Down, while DiCaprio next stars in the Martin Scorsese-directed The Wolf Of Wall Street. Foxx is repped by CAA, and he, DiCaprio and Appian Way are repped by LBI Entertainment.
