    Nokia partners GTPL for broadband deal

    MUMBAI: Nokia confirmed its partnership with GTPL, a cable TV and broadband service provider company. In order to upgrade its networks, GTPL will use and install Nokia’s fixed access and core technology.

    GTPL’s ethernet-based access network will be replaced by the upgraded fibre cables capable of supporting ultra broadband speed. The broadband provider will also utilise Nokia Broadband Network Gateway (BNG) solutions for reliable ultra broadband access in residential areas. This will promote a faster internet experience for the subscribers.

    As per the agreement, Nokia’s GPON technology will be used by GTPL, also along with that, the currently deployed Nokia BNG’s. This move will boost existing service speeds and drop-ship new ultra-broadband services including high speed internet, linear TV and video-on-demand (VoD) services.

    As per ET Telecom, Nokia’s GPON equipment will be deployed across various cities in the Gujarat state by the end of this year.

    Speaking to ET Telecom, managing director at GTPL Hathway, Anirudh Jadeja said, “India is recording a massive increase in broadband consumption, and as people begin using digital platforms to complete a number of day-to-day tasks they will demand an even better broadband network. We believe our partnership with Nokia is crucial to our growth. The modernised network will allow us to provide a world-class broadband experience to our subscribers. It is also in keeping with the Indian government’s drive to promote the use of the digital platform as part of its Digital India vision”.

    Ahead of the partnership, head of emerging business at Nokia, Vinish Bawa looked excited as he stated, “We are delighted to work with GTPL to transform its networks to deliver an improved network experience for its subscribers. This deployment will enable GTPL to meet fast-growing demand for a better and faster network experience. Our technology solutions will allow GTPL to differentiate itself from other market players to attract more customers”.

    GTPL launches high-speed internet on GPON FTTX technology

    MUMBAI: GTPL Hathway, a cable TV and broadband service provider in India, has launched its high-speed broadband service in Ahmedabad on GPON (gigabit passive optical network) FTTX (fibre to the X) technology. The company has upgraded its network to GPON FTTX technology to meet consumer demand and has started providing internet connections of 40 mbps and 100 mbps plans with no data restriction in the price range of Rs 635 to 763 per month.

    “GTPL has been making continuous enhancement in its technological capabilities and deploying most advanced available technology in cable and broadband industry. Our deployment of the latest GPON FITX technology has enabled us to provide a unique offering of high speed ‘no data restriction’ internet connectivity. This offer is a game changer and GTPL is proud to bring this to its valued customers,” said GTPL Hathway managing director Aniruddhasinhji Jadeja.

    The company has launched annual and half-yearly subscription. Currently, the services launched are restricted to Ahmedabad only but there are plans to progressively launch in other key cities of Gujarat.

    “With the launch of our new broadband plans, for the first time, customers in Ahmedabad will get ‘Sach mein unlimited’ – a unique combination of high-speed connectivity at a reasonable price with no data restriction whatsoever. The technology can provide up to 1 gbps if the customer so demands,” added Jadeja.

  • Asianet Broadband to move into Tamil Nadu; launches superfast package in Kozhikode

    MUMBAI: Down south, Asianet Broadband a part of Asianet Satellite Communications has announced it is spreading its wings into Tamil Nadu. Asianet Broadband has 200,000 subscribers from residential areas SMEs and office in 56 and cities towns across God’s own country Kerala.

    It made this announcement last week, along with the introduction of a super fast broadband package.

    The new package called GIGA Fibre 200 it is being offered in Calicut and is being delivered over its brand new optical fibre network, it passing over 45,000 homes in the city at launch. The idea is to take it up to 100,000 homes across the city and outskirts in phases,the company says.

    Asainet Broadband has a total bandwidth capacity of more than 30 Gbps, which is the largest in the state of Kerala among the new generation private ISPs.

    The GIGA Fibre 200 package priced of Rs 999 a month at 200 MBPS speeds with a 200 GB limit. Asianet has a sweetener attached to the package: those paying three months advance rent in advance will get the wifi modem free.. The delivery of the broadband is being done using tate of the art DOCSIS & GPON technology.

  • Hathway launches GPON in Chennai, to invest Rs 500 cr in south

    MUMBAI: Internet service-provider (ISP) and cable multi-system operator (MSO) Hathway, over the next three years, plans to invest to the tune of Rs 500 crore in south India as part of its strategy to launch highspeed broadband service. It will be establishing data centres and other infrastructure so as to cover five lakh customers in three years.

    A senior company official told PTI that the Mumbai-based firm, which is into providing internet service through “Docsis 3” technology, has made commercial launch of the service through Gigabite Passive Optical Networks Fiber to Home (GPON Fibre to Home) technology. The company on Thursday announced the launch of its services in India with ultra-high-speed broadband technology.

    Consumption of OTT content from the likes of Amazon Prime, Netflix and HOOQ has been increasing and this would require high-speed dependable services. With broadband business present in 10 cities, Hathway has tied up with Cisco, Oracle, ZTE and Nokia for hardware and software components.

    Hathway Cable and Datacom managing director Rajan Gupta said, in Chennai, they had observed an explosion in demand (for broadband internet) last year. The average broadband consumption across the country is 45GB whereas, in Chennai, it was 90GB per month. It has just commercially launched in Chennai with GPON technology, he added.

    Noting that the incumbent operators provided broadband service through copper wires, Gupta said that Hathway would offer high-speed end-to-end fibre solution through fibre cables with the package starting at Rs 999 a month for speeds up to 150Mbps and 1000GB data unload.

    DEN networks to use Alcatel-Lucent’s GPON tech for broadband services

    MUMBAI : DEN Networks will deploy Alcatel-Lucent’s GPON and IP routers to enable DEN Networks to launch ultra-broadband access services in India.

     

    DEN Networks is offering services in the fast-growing broadband market, where cable and satellite pay-TV subscribers are estimated to rise to 175 million by 2019, from 139 million today. With a customer base 13 million cable TV service over 200 cities, DEN Networks plans to use fiber-optic access technology to expand its ‘DEN Boomband’ broadband service to 8.5 million city homes within three years.

     

    Since September 2015, Alcatel-Lucent has been deploying its GPON (gigabit passive optical networking) fiber-to-the-home, Ethernet aggregation and Broadband Network Gateway IP routing technologies with DEN Networks, delivering services to new customers as well as those already served by the existing DOCSIS-based network. In some areas of the network Alcatel-Lucent’s technology is providing backhaul connectivity, with the existing coaxial cable being used for ‘last-mile’ service delivery.

     

    Alcatel-Lucent is providing its GPON technology, which includes the 7360 Intelligent Service Access Manager (ISAM) FX, the 7368 Intelligent Services Aware Manager ONT and the 5520 Access Management System (AMS) to enable high-speed ultra-broadband access for homes and businesses using both fiber-to-the-home and fiber-to-the-node technologies to serve individual and multi-dwelling residences.

     

    Alcatel-Lucent will also provide its IP routing and switching portfolio to Den Networks. The 7210 Service Access Switch will provide layer three aggregation and the 7750 Service Routers will act as a broadband network gateway for residential services. Network management and subscriber level reporting will be provided by the 5620 Service Aware Manager and 5670 Reporting and Analysis Manager respectively.
