  • Sky, Nippon & Globosat buy sports & music, etc. docus from GRB Entertainment

    MUMBAI: Sky UK, Nippon Television & Globosat have recently bought sports, music, etc documentaries from GRB Entertainment.

    Globosat Brazil renewed Remembering Whitney, a documentary featuring legendary singer Whitney Houston, just in time to celebrate the icon’s 9 August birthday. This breathtaking one-hour special celebrates the legacy of the six-time Grammy winner, featuring “never-before-seen footage” of Whitney, including interviews with the pop icon, exclusive concerts, private home videos, and candid insights from her family, including her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown.

    Nippon Television Network in Japan acquired Michael Sam, a 65-minute doc spotlighting the life of Michael Sam, the first openly gay U.S. football player in the NFL. Cameras follow Sam along his brave journey – from a football player at the University of Missouri to the biggest professional sports league in America as he works to earn a spot on a NFL team.

    Sky UK acquired two docs: Confessions of a Superhero follows the lives of three mortal men and one woman who make their living working as superhero characters on the sidewalks of the infamous Hollywood Boulevard. This deeply personal view into the daily routines of these characters reveal their hardships, and triumphs, while they pursue and achieve their own kind of fame; and The Mona Lisa Myth, narrated by Morgan Freeman, is a lavish period docu-drama that takes viewers from Leonardo Da Vinci’s happy sojourn in the duchy of Milan to his struggling years in Florence, through the controversy surrounding his famous painting The Mona Lisa and finally, his retirement at the French royal court in Amboise.

    GRB Entertainment announces LatAm deals– Discovery LatAm and Brazil’s Globosat

    MUMBAI  GRB Entertainment announced deals of factual titles to Discovery and Globosat ahead of NATPE. GRB is represented at NATPE by CEO Gary R. Benz; International Distribution SVP Mike Lolato, and  Director of International Sales & Acquisitions Liz Levenson and will be located at stand #212 on the market floor.

     

    Discovery Latin America acquired ten new special episodes and five seasons of the long-running, real-life dramatic hospital emergency series, Untold Stories of the ER. Globosat picked up My First Home and GRB-produced Pregnant & Dating for Brazil.

Discovery Latin America acquired Untold Stories of the ER which recently completed a week-long marathon of the first nine seasons on Discovery Life U.S., proving itself an audience favorite yet again.     GloboSat to distribute SaharaOne channels in UK, Europe

    MUMBAI: In a bid to garner international subscription revenues and also expand its footprint in UK and Europe, SaharaOne Media and Entertainment has entered into a long term deal with New York based broadcast distribution outfit GloboSat Entertainment in order to help the company launch its channel services at various countries.

    SaharaOne Media and Entertainment CEO Shantonu Aditya says, “Through the association with GloboSat Entertainment, we are looking forward to the expansion of our channels in newer markets through this partnership so as to entertain our viewers worldwide.”

    The company is also eyeing broadband as well as mobile platforms in the US. GloboSat Entertainment is said to be in talks with a couple of moblie companies in this regard.

    One such company that the GloboSat is talking to for carrying the two Sahara channels (Sahara One and Filmy) is US based made for mobile company Ithentic.

    The channels will soon be on JumpTV, the subscription-based broadcaster of ethnic television over the internet. JumpTV already streams other Indian channels SET, India TV News, Kairali TV, People TV and Amrita TV.

    GloboSat president and CEO Sudhir Vaishnav says, “Our strategic partnerships with DTH, cable, broadband, IPTV, mobile and other platforms spanning across North and South America, Europe and UK help our broadcast partners to build international presence faster.”

    The media company will soon launch the channels SaharaOne and Filmy in UK and Europe. The two channels will soon be visible in Bangladesh as well. The channels will also be accessible on Rogers Cable in Canada.

    The general entertainment channel SaharaOne already has its presence in US on Echostar. And the movie channel Filmy is offered on DirecTV, the other DTH platform in US controlled by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp.

    The two channels have recently been launched in Nepal and Maldives. The company now plans to push SaharaOne in the Middle-East, where the movie channel has already made its entry via the Pehla platform.

    The company is also targeting to push the two channels in Africa as well as in Australia in due course.
