    FNP Media appoints Girish Johar as COO

    Mumbai: Ferns N Petals-housed content production company FNP Media on Friday announced the appointment of Girish Johar as chief operating officer (COO). Johar is a film trade & business analyst, film maven & promising producer.

    In a bid to expand its footprint in the media & entertainment industry, FNP Media said it plans to create content in all formats like short films, ad films, web series, and film originals for OTT & theatricals.

    “Johar will be directly responsible for overseeing the operations, content creation, marketing & business exploitation of all avenues for the company,” it added.

    With an overall experience of over two decades in the film industry, Johar brings with him a deeper understanding of cinema, right from its creation to its appreciation amongst the audiences, across all formats. In his new role, Girish will be responsible for fueling the growth of FNP Media.

    In his previous assignments, Johar has worked with media companies like PVR, Sony, UTV Disney, Balaji, Zee Entertainment to name a few. His professional, multi-tasking & focused approach has won him many laurels & special recognitions.

    This association will fully equip team KriArj to not only monetise its own films but will also give them the strength to provide marketing & distribution services to other independent film makers. Additionally, KriArj plans to acquire big films for not only their pan-India distribution but also for the overseas territories.

    A graduate in Economic Honors and an MBA in Marketing and I.T, Girish Johar has worked with leading players like Balaji Motion Pictures, Sony, UTV Disney, PVR & Zee Studios, and has immense experience in marketing, production, exhibition and global distribution of films. During his tenure, he has defined the business and market for films releasing in various languages – Hindi, English, Bengali, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Marathi. Johar, a young veteran, has an experience of around 20 years in this field and was involved in more than 140 films, in various capacities. Jodhaa Akbar, DevD, A Wednesday, Ragini MMS, The Dirty Picture, Jazbaa, Rustom & many more form part of his repertoire within the industry.

    Fresh from the success of Rustom and the much awaited Toilet-Ek Prem Katha, which is a summer 2017 release with Viacom18, KriArj has announced their association with John Abraham Entertainment for PARMANU The Story of Pokhran with Zee Studios & Kyta Productions , Clean Slate Films PARI (Anushka Sharma’s production banner), Anees Bazmi’s next with TSeries, Fanney Khan starring Anil Kapoor & Aishwarya Rai of a Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra production and also Vishal Bhardwaj’s production.     MUMBAI: With the overall strategic vision of the business to strengthen its revenue streams from the films division, Essel Vision Productions Ltd (EVPL) has appointed Girish Johar as global revenue head for films division.

    Johar will be responsible for existing as well as generating new revenue streams from films across all languages and mediums. He will report into EVPL business head Akash Chawla.

    Chawla believes that the film division is fundamental for business and has immense potential to grow. Revenues play a pivotal role in fuelling the expansion strategy of any business and creating different revenue streams from various mediums is central to the success of this strategy. “With Girish at the helm of this, I am confident that the revenues will be further maximised and many more avenues will be explored than those currently.”

    MUMBAI: Bhushan Patel, who recently stirred 1920 – Evil Returns has been selected to direct Ragini MMS 2, the sequel of Ekta Kapoor‘s Ragini MMS that released in 2011.

    Confirming the same, Balaji Motion Pictures CEO Tanuj Garg says, “What started off as a humble experimental film has turned into a huge franchise. We took a leap of faith in signing Bhushan even before his first release. Given the film‘s impressive film‘s box office performance, it was the right decision in hindsight.”

    Patel said, “To add to the excitement of delivering a hit, is the opportunity of directing another hit franchise for the Balaji banner. I am looking forward to Ragini MMS-2.”

    Balaji Motion Pictures head of acquisition and distribution Girish Johar said, “We have signed Bhushan Patel to direct our Ragini MMS 2 with Sunny Leone. We loved the promos of 1920- Evil Returns. For a debut director, Bhushan has done a great job in the film. We are confident that he will do justice to Ragini MMS 2.”

    Ragini MMS 2 is expected to be a supernatural and horror film too.

    The original movie, directed by Pawan Kripalani, featured Kainaz Motivala and Raj Kumar Yadav. In the sequel, Indo-Canadian porn star Sunny Leone will add spice.

    MUMBAI: Production house Balaji Motion Pictures will expand the number of screens showing The Dirty Picture to 100 in a bid to penetrate deeper.

    Said Balaji Motion Pictures, Distribution and Acquisition head Girish Johar, “The movie is doing well. We have almost thrashed a deal to increase the number of screens the film is showing from around 40 to 100 from this Friday.”

    To a question as to why was the home video rights given at a time when the film was still going strong, Johar quipped, “ Normally, the home video rights are given away after the fourth week and our film is already six weeks old. We decided to bring out the film on home video for we knew that people will lap it up and in the process, we would be able to monetise on that front too.”

    The Dirty Picture, which released worldwide on 2 December in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, has Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor among others.

    MUMBAI: The Dirty Picture meets with unanimous appreciation all over and consolidates its position with each passing day, holding strong even today. And with Tuesday‘s bank holiday promising to be an extra booster, the film which is already a hit, is on its way to become a superhit.

    The Dirty Picture collected Rs 324 million over the first weekend. According to Balaji Telefilms‘s Girish Johar, the film has already made it to top 10 weekend grossers with these figures.

    The other release, I Am Singh‘s collections remained poor.

    Among the last week‘s releases, box office collections of Dam 999 remained below Rs 10 million mark after its first week.

    Desi Boyz joins the list of recent debacles adding just Rs 76 million in next four days to its weekend collections of Rs 262 million, taking its total to Rs 338 million.

    Rockstar collected Rs 31 million in its third week thereby taking its three week total to Rs 586 million.
