    Yusuf Batliwala joins Hero Esports as global partnerships head

    MUMBAI: It’s a power move in the world of competitive gaming. Yusuf Batliwala has been appointed senior director for global partnerships at Hero Esports, bringing with him nearly two decades of cross-continental experience across entertainment, media, and gaming. Based out of Singapore, Batliwala officially took charge in June 2025.

    Batliwala’s new role will see him leading Hero Esports’ global partnership strategy forging collaborations, securing brand alliances, and expanding the company’s footprint in international markets. With esports exploding into a mainstream spectacle, Hero Esports appears to be stacking its deck with strategic firepower.

    Before joining Hero Esports, Batliwala served as senior sponsorship strategist for the Esports World Cup Riyadh 2024, a high-stakes tournament that cemented Saudi Arabia’s place on the global esports map. He was previously associate director for strategic partnerships at Singtel, where he shaped digital entertainment initiatives across Southeast Asia. His diverse experience also includes stints with Bytedance, BBC, and Getty Images.

    Having worn multiple hats from content sales and sponsorships to strategic partnerships and business development Batliwala is no stranger to navigating the fast-evolving intersections of media, tech, and culture.

    With Hero Esports expanding rapidly across Asia, Batliwala’s appointment signals the company’s ambition to level up its global playbook. As esports matures into a billion-dollar business, industry insiders will be watching closely to see how Batliwala’s deal-making and brand-building expertise helps unlock the next phase of Hero’s journey.

     MUMBAI: NDTV Prime in association with Getty Images, the world leader in visual communication, announces Face of India, the search for India’s best amateur portrait photographer. It is a first of its kind contest that will provide a platform to identify and nurture raw photography talent in the country.

     Face of India is an amateur and enthusiast photography award, dedicated to shining a spotlight on upcoming non-professional and student photographers. It has one mission; to discover and celebrate portrait photography and photographers in India. The last date for sending entries to be a part of the contest is 30th November, 2015.

     The entries will be judged by a renowned jury consisting of Aditya Arya, known for his advertising photography work; Ravi Dhingra, a versatile lifestylephotographer and the festival director for the Delhi Photo Festival; Dinesh Khanna,  a photographer who has been extensively involved in creating images for advertising and editorial features; Sanjay Nanda, a graphic designer by profession but a passionate photographer along with a bevy of international photographers will be focussing their lens on exploring new talent.

     By participating in the ‘Face of India Portrait Photography Competition’, you stand a chance of becoming a “Contributing Photographer for Getty Images”, giving you access to the company’s industry-leading experts and an opportunity to take your photography to the next level.

    Speaking on the contest NDTV chairperson Prannoy Roy said, “NDTV is proud to be associated with Getty Images to extend a platform for amateur photographers to display their talent and to be recognised across India.  Photography has become an increasingly popular format across every age group and a camera is no longer limited to a DSLR.      The competition is open for Indian nationals only from around the world. Portrait is the theme for the competition as they are more complex than just a beautiful face, or a well-staged family photograph. A skillfully captured portrait has the power to move us through its expression and mood. Portraits speak of happiness, sadness or reveal a distant thought within the subject’s glance, an untold story is heard.

    Getty Images & Instagram launch photography grant

    MUMBAI: Getty Images in collaboration with Instagram, has called for entries for a new grant to support photographers using Instagram to document stories from underrepresented communities around the world.

     

    Instagram has introduced new opportunities for emerging voices, outside the mainstream media, to create and share projects of social importance. The Getty Images Instagram grant provides financial support and mentorship to amplify their impact.

     

    “Photographers in all corners of the world use the Instagram platform to share unique and authentic stories that otherwise rarely come into focus. Getty Images is guided by our belief in the power of pictures to move the world and we are excited to collaborate with Instagram on this grant to support and amplify new and important voices,” said Getty Images senior director of content partnerships Elodie Mailliet Storm.

     

    Three winners will be selected based on the existing body of work represented on their Instagram account, focusing on the quality of their imagery, their photographic skills and on the project and stories told through their photos.

     

    “We are inspired every day by the work being shared on Instagram by both established and aspiring photographers. Photographers from every corner of the world are experimenting, stretching their creativity and offering diverse perspectives. This grant captures the global enthusiasm from photographers to continue to push their craft to new levels,” added Instagram director of community Amanda Kelso. 

     

    Applications will be accepted until 4 June, 2015. Entrants can apply online at www.gettyimages.com/grants, where they will be required to submit a biography, brief description of their approach, style, the stories they have covered and how they would benefit from the grant.

     

    The judges are TIME director of photography Kira Pollack, World Press Photo-winning Swedish-Eritrean photographer Malin Fezehai, award-winning American photojournalist and former Miami Herald director of photography Maggie Steber, National Geographic photographer fellow David Guttenfelder and @EverydayIran founder Ramin Talaie.

     

    The three winners will be announced in September 2015. Each will receive a grant of $10,000 and mentorship from one of Getty Images’ world-class photographers. They will also be invited to the Photoville photography festival in New York in September 2015, where Getty Images and Instagram will exhibit the grantees’ imagery.

  • Rupert Harrow joins Publicitas as APAC ED – sales and biz development

    MUMBAI: After acquiring Indian company Mediascope, Publicitas has appointed Rupert Harrow as executive director sales and business development. He will be based out of Hong Kong and will report to Publicitas India and Asia CEO Marzban Patel.

    Harrow will be in charge of sales and business development for Asia Pacific.

    Patel said, “Rupert‘s professionalism and knowledge of the business, combined with his excellent network are perfect for our business. I am looking forward to rapidly growing our business across Asia together with Rupert.”

    Harrow comes with 13 years of experience in the field. He spent 10 years at The Economist as head of sales. Prior to that he spent three years at Getty Images as business head. His experience covers the entire region – Asia (including China and Japan), the Pacific and India for both his earlier companies.

    Harrow said, “I am excited by the opportunity of working for Publicitas, their media partners and advertising customers. There’s is such a powerful offering and strong team to work with, that am confident we will be able to build on the current success and continue to be a preferred partner for media owners and advertisers.”
