AMC Networks to develop a series on ‘Good Night, and Good Luck’

Mumbai: US cable company AMC Networks has opened a writers’ room to develop a TV show based on the Oscar-nominated movie Good Night, and Good Luck.

Oscar winner George Clooney, Grant Heslov, and their Smokehouse Pictures banner brought the project to AMC along with participants and 2929 productions. Heslov will direct the first episode of the series.

“AMC is known for intriguing, deeply rooted characters that leap off the screen and into the cultural zeitgeist. Sy Steingartner fits right in with AMC’s icons, and we are excited to develop the character and series,” said AMC Networks president of entertainment and AMC Studios Dan McDermott. “We’re huge fans of Jonathan’s expert storytelling gifts, George and Grant’s producing prowess, Grant’s directing skills, and the vigorous talents of Mark, Todd, and Jeff, and we’re elated to work with all of them in this new endeavour.”

Jonathan Glatzer will be the showrunner and executive producer. Mark Cuban and Todd Wagner of 2,929 are executive producers, along with participant Jeff Skoll. Miura Kite of Participant will also executive produce, along with Haley Jones of 2929. Rebecca Arzoian of Smokehouse will be co-executive producer.

“As a massive fan of the movie, I didn’t want to copy it or just do a facsimile of it. So, we’ve expanded the world to show how the division and hysteria of the times seeped into every aspect of daily life. I suppose it’s more of an origin story of where we are today,” Glatzer said.

“We are exceedingly proud of the Oscar-nominated Good Night, and Good Luck film, and its themes remain frighteningly relevant today, as new threats to democracy arise and trust in the press continues to erode. We are proud to work with AMC, Smokehouse, and 2929 to expand on the world of the film in this thrilling new series,” said Participant CEO David Linde.

Good Night and Good Luck,” and the pressures that the Murrow newsroom faces are more relevant now than ever. We are thrilled to reteam with our partners George Clooney, Grant Heslov and Participant to bring Jonathan Glatzer’s vision of Murrow to new audiences. AMC’s long history of character-driven storytelling make this the ideal collaboration for the new series adaptation,” said 2929 Entertainment CEO Todd Wagner.

    Star Movies showcases Disney’s Tomorrowland

MUMBAI: Star Movies has always brought its audiences the biggest and best international blockbusters. Films have always had the power to teleport audiences in a world other than their own and this June, audiences will get to experience a world imagined by none other than Walt Disney himself.

On June 26th, the channel will take you on an inter-dimensional travel through Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland. The film is a firm exemplification of the faith that humanity placed in the future. It brings to life Walt Disney’s idea of what he envisaged the future of this world to be.

Tomorrowland is a leap of faith in film-making that brilliantly captures the utopic nature of a parallel world. It begins with the tale of a delinquent teenager with a thirst for scientific knowledge and a former boy-genius inventor. Both set out on a journey to uncover the secrets of a parallel universe that exists through inter-dimensional travel.

Tomorrowland is a futuristic world that is exclusive to its genius citizens. You can either enter by invitation or through the elusive pins. Everyone there is equal, prosperous and happy. It is full of robots, jetpacks, space rockets, holograms and even giant, humanoid 3D printers that construct large pieces of infrastructure in seconds. Brad Bird’s characteristic playful style is apparent and the wild pace of the action is reminiscent of his animated blockbuster, The Incredibles.

Tomorrowland is a Disney film with an incredible world filled with wonders and phenomena yet to be imagined. The concept is so fascinating that Tomorrowland is an actual attraction in Disneyland across several locations in the world.

Disney’s Tomorrowland stars George Clooney and Hugh Laurie and is sure to captivate its audiences with its television premiere, on 26th June at 1 pm and 9 pm only on Star Movies.

MUMBAI: Hollywood star George Clooney will be the recipient of the Cecil B DeMille Award at the 2015 Golden Globes, announced the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA).

HFPA president Theo Kingma stated that the HFPA is honoured to bestow the Cecil B. DeMille Award to George Clooney to celebrate his outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera.

The actor, producer, writer and director co-founded ‘Not On Our Watch’, an organisation that works to fight genocides around the world. In 2008, Clooney was designated as a UN Messenger of Peace and two years later, he with Joel Gallen and Tenth Planet Productions co-produced a telethon, ‘Hope for Haiti’, which raised $66 million for the Haiti earthquake relief.

Clooney has already been nominated for Golden Globe awards 13 times and won three including ‘Best Actor in a Drama’ for The Descendants (2011), ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for Syriana (2005) and ‘Best Actor in a Comedy/Musical’ for O Brother, Where Art Thou (2000).

  • Clooney to direct a movie on UK phone hacking scandal

Clooney to direct a movie on UK phone hacking scandal

MUMBAI: Three years after Rupert Murdoch shut the News of the World, George Clooney is set to direct Hack Attack, an adaptation of the book by the same name by Guardian journalist Nick Davies, according to media reports. The book is an account of Davies’ investigation into the hacking scandal surrounding Rupert Murdoch’s news empire, which triggered the demise of its weekly News of the World.

As per the reports, the 53-year old will also serve as co-producer for the movie, alongside Grant Heslov with whom he has worked on several previous films through their Smokehouse Pictures production company.

Making a statement about his latest directorial venture, Clooney said, “This has all the elements – lying, corruption, blackmail – at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London. And the fact that it’s true is the best part. Nick is a brave and stubborn reporter and we consider it an honour to put his book to film.”

The phone-hacking trial was one of the most expensive in English legal history, spotlighting the close ties between the Murdoch empire and politicians and the no-holds-barred methods of Britain’s tabloid press.

Those affected included the then Kate Middleton, who is now married to Prince William, James Bond star Daniel Craig and actor Jude Law. Murdoch shut the News of the World in 2011 after it emerged that what was then Britain’s biggest selling paper had illegally accessed the voicemails of a murdered schoolgirl.

Two-time Academy Award winner Clooney is most well known for roles ranging from Ocean’s Eleven and its sequels to last year’s Oscar-winning Gravity. But in the last decade the heartthrob actor has moved behind the camera to direct a number of movies including Good Night, and Good Luck, The Ides of March and The Monuments Men.

Shooting on the new movie will begin next year but no release date has been set.
