With a smile: Himalaya promotes cleft lip awareness

BENGALURU: On the eve of World Smile Day, wellness brand The Himalaya Drug Company rolled out its flagship social impact initiative, Muskaan, to spread awareness about cleft lip and palate conditions. In partnership with Smile Train, the world’s leading cleft lipand palate charity, the initiative will support free life-saving cleft treatment to children in need.

Through the EkNayi Muskaancampaign, Himalaya Lip Care will focus on educating people about cleft lip and the availability of corrective treatments at the grassroots level. The awareness drive kickstarted with a heart-warming video capturing the inspirational story of eight-year-old Munmun. The film portrays how Munmun’s life was transformed with safe cleft surgery.

As part of the initiative, a multimedia awareness campaign has started reaching out to people across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. Smile Train India’s toll-free Cleft Helpline, 1800-103-8301, is available for people to enquire about cleft and avail free cleft treatment.

This year’s campaign featured Arjuna awardee and Commonwealth gold medallist Geeta Phogat, who extended her support to the initiative.

“As a wrestler, I have faced multiple challenges throughout my journey, but never let go of my dreams. Every child has a dream, and the ability to achieve the dream should not be limited by a medical condition like cleft. I am extremely happy to be associated with Muskaan, which has been helping children lead a healthy, happy, and fulfilling life. Such initiatives show how a simple surgery can transform the life of children and help them discover a better future,” said Phogat.

Every year in India, more than 35,000 babies are born with a cleft. This can greatly impact their ability to thrive, as having an untreated cleft can cause difficulties in eating, breathing, hearing, and speaking.Smile Train VP and regional director Asia Mamta Carroll said it is imperative to generate awareness around cleft and the importance of early medical intervention.

“There is a lack of awareness that cleft can often be treated with a safe surgery. With enhanced safety guidelines to protect both patients and health workers, our partner hospitals across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are now slowly resuming cleft surgeries and we are supporting free treatment for cleft patients,” Carroll elaborated.

Rajesh Krishnamurthy, business director of consumer products divisionat The Himalaya Drug Company believes that the social awareness campaign is true to the brand’s spirit of spreading happiness through wellness and changing lives for the better.

“EkNayi Muskaan is very close to our hearts. Through our partnership with Smile Train India, we have brought smiles to a lot of families across India in the past five years by facilitating free cleft surgeries for their children. Our endeavour is to continue transforming the lives of many more children living with cleft and help them achieve their dreams,” he said.

Himalaya Lip Care has been consistently spearheading cleft care awareness and making efforts to bring many more smiles to children across the country through Muskaan. In addition to creating awareness, Rs 3 is contributed towards Muskaan with the sale of every Himalaya Lip Care product.

  • JSW celebrates women’s victory with Sakshi Malik

MUMBAI: This year, on International working Women’s Day, JSW is taking this opportunity to celebrate the struggles and victories of every woman, every single day, in a campaign featuring Sakshi Malik — #EveryWomanStrong.

It is easy to celebrate known achievers, but we strongly believe that for every woman who makes it to the spotlight, there are many more who continue to fight across every walk of life. Taking the next step from the Geeta Phogat ‘Will of steel’ campaign, this story is told through the voice and face of Sakshi Malik, India’s pride at the 2016 Olympic. The narrative salutes every Sakshi and infact all women who emerge winners every single day. So in it’s true spirit, this campaign is not just for Women’s Day, it’s for every day…every woman’s day.

With Sakshi Malik as the face of the campaign, the idea is to salute the strength of every Sakshi, and hence every woman. The JSW brand has a focused approach to women’s empowerment across the country through their ‘Janam Se Janani Tak’ initiative run by JSW foundation. Under this initiative, the brand empowers women across 1000 villages in 9 states to stand strong every day.

Ogilvy Mumbai executive creative director Sukesh Nayak said, “‘Janam se Janani Tak’ supports every woman across small villages to stand strong. The idea of Sakshi saluting every Sakshi who fights like her every day and emerges a winner is a perfect way to launch the

    #EveryWomanStrong initiative.

  • Phogat launches Godrej Interio healthcare range

MUMBAI: Godrej Interio, India’s leading furniture and interior solutions brand, launched a new health awareness campaign-sleep@10. Launched by Olympian, Geeta Phogat, the campaign was born during the product development stage of their healthcare range. #sleepAt10 is an initiative that aims to spread awareness about the importance of good sleep for your physical and mental wellbeing.

A living example of discipline and healthy living leading to success, Phogat spoke about the importance of sleep@10 in her life. She shared instances of her father drawing a strict regime for her and her sisters and one of them being sleeping early by 10pm and getting up by 4am.

Expressing her appreciation to the vital issue, Phogat said, “Athletes need immense discipline owing to the high-octane physical activities that we engage in. Sleeping@10 was non-negotiable in my house. My father ensured we all slept by then. I believe this routine is not just essential for a wrestler but all of us if we wish to have a stress free and healthy lifestyle. Take your diet, daily exercise and even your mattress very seriously, cause all of this will lead to a healthy sleeping pattern.”

Sleep Disorder Clinic clinical director Dr. Devnani also spoke on the benefits of sleeping early and how this was a very pertinent conversation for India, given 93% of Indians are believed to be sleep-deprived.

Dr. Devnani said,“The addiction to technology and multiple devices all through the day and accessing them immediately before sleeping is also on the rise.” She also added, “It has been medically proven that the best time to sleep is at 10pm since it perfectly coordinates with the sun’s patterns.”

Godrej Interio COO Anil Mathur said,“Sleep@10 is a concept that actually emerged from the product development stage of our healthcare range. Misuse of new age technology might be playing an important role towards this and it’s our responsibility to seek for a healthier lifestyle.”

PWL: All eyes on Geeta-Marwa, Sandeep-Amit bouts

MUMBAI: After a solid start to the season, reigning defending champions Mumbai Maharathis in the inaugural match, the Haryana Hammers are upbeat for their next encounter against UP Dangal in the second season of Patanjali Powervita Pro Wrestling League (PWL) on Wednesday.

It won’t be an easy affair for them, as the star-studded UP team includes Commonwealth gold medallist Geeta Phogat, Babita Kumari, Maria Mamashuk and marquee player Elitsa Yankova along with Amit Dahiya.

The star encounters of the night will be the fights between Geeta and Marwa Amri, along with Sandeep Tomar and Amit Dahiya. On the other hand, Babita will be eager to repeat her performance same as in season-1, where she outshone World No 3 Ukraine grappler Tatyana Kit, who was representing Haryana then.

After the release of Bollywood film – Dangal, all eyes are set on Geeta and Babita and they are expected to prove that they still have the same energy and aggression, which was portrayed in the film.

Marwa Amri is in good form after beating Sarita in the first bout, and it will be a close battle when she will take on Geeta on the mat. The way Geeta had brought down World champion Oksana Herhel of Ukraine in the previous season, nothing is impossible for the Dhaakad girl.

Haryana squad will also have Kiran (75kg), Indu Choudhary (48kg) and Sumit (74kg) take the mat but it all depends on the result between Andrey Kviatkovski and Rajneesh in men’s 65kg weight category.

“Elitsa is world renowned player and has acclaimed various accolades, whereas we have a huge respect and feel proud for what Geeta has done till now. But having them both makes our team more balanced now,” said Sunny Katyal, UP Dangal team.

Rio Olympics medallist Elitsa Yankova (48kg) and World championship silver medallist Abdusalam Gadisov are marquee players for UP and Haryana respectively.
