    Damini strikes again with a sequel after 30 Years

    MUMBAI: Lightning strikes twice, and this time, it’s Damini 2.0. The cult Marathi television classic that pioneered daily soaps in the 90s is set to make a grand comeback after three decades.

    Originally produced by the late Gautam Adhikari and Markand Adhikari under the Sri Adhikari Brothers banner, Damini ran for over nine years, clocking more than 1,500 episodes and earning legendary status in Marathi households.

    Now, Damini 2.0 is ready to carry forward that legacy. The sequel is being produced by Doordarshan Sahyadri Vahini and will once again be written and directed by Kaanchan Adhikkari, who helmed the original series.

    On the revival, media baron Markand Adhikari expressed his joy, “I am very happy that Doordarshan Kendra, Mumbai has decided to take forward the legacy of Damini by producing Damini 2.0, with Kaanchan writing and directing it. Adhikari Brothers has always strived to create content that resonates with Indian audiences, and our next generation, Ravi and Kailash, will continue this legacy.”

    A show that once changed the face of Marathi television is ready to do it again. With Damini 2.0, nostalgia meets new-age storytelling, and the storm is set to return to the small screen.

    Sab TV co-founder Gautam Adhikari passes away

    MUMBAI: Gautam Adhikari, the chairman and whole time director of the SAB group, died at the age of 67 in the wee hours of Friday (October 27) at his residence. His last rites were performed in Vile Parle suburban area of Mumbai.

    He was a diploma holder in commercial art and was considered as one of the pioneers of the Marathi TV industry. He is survived by wife Ranjana and two children – a son and a daughter.

    Gautam and his brother Markand started a company– Sri Adhikari Brothers (SAB) Group- in 1985 as a small family owned partnership firm.

    The company initially produced serials in Marathi, but soon ventured into film distribution and production business. He had set a record for the highest number of hit TV shows and his record was also mentioned in the Limca Book of World Records.

    They introduced standup comedy on small screen with the show Made in India, which was aired on DD1 in 1998.

    The production house also offered thriller and music based programmes on TV. The most popular TV shows directed by him are Commandar, Marshall, Silsila and Hello Inspector.

    TV news genre expands as India watches Trust Vote

    MUMBAI: While MPs flashed cash in Parliament, TV news channels made hay. On 22 July, when the government was on tenterhooks, the TV news genre expanded as viewers looked curiously at the drama that unfolded on the Trust Vote day.

    According to the latest Tam data, on 22 July, Hindi news genre viewership surged to grab 12.47 (C&S, HSM, 15+) per cent share of the TV viewing audience. On the previous and following days, the viewership stood at 8.77 and 8.06 per cent respectively.

    In the English news segment, the viewership spiked from 0.71(C&S, All India, 15+) per cent to 1.26 per cent on 22 July.

    Aaj Tak with 2.72 per cent has got the highest market share among all Hindi news channels, followed by Star News with 1.98 per cent. In the third spot is India TV with 1.62 per cent while Zee News gathered 1.53 per cent of the relative market share. NDTV India held 1.40 per cent and IBN7 captured 0.88 per cent.

    Times Now topped the English news segment pocketing 0.44 per market share. In terms of market share, NDTV 24X7 got 0.28 per cent, CNN-IBN held 0.22 per cent, Headlines Today had 0.1 and NewsX 0.11 per cent.

    Times Now covered six hours nonstop without a break interspersed withinteractions from experts like senior journalists and political analysts.

    The politicians present were PS Sangma, Ravishankar Prasad, Rajiv Shukla, D Raja and Mehbooba Mufti among others.

    Other distinguished panel members inside Parliament were Paranjoy Guha Roy, Swapan Dasgupta, Sacchidanand Murthi, Gautam Adhikari, Chidanand Rajghatta, Nirja Chaudhary, Mahesh Rangarajan, Cho Ramaswamy and Shankar Raghuraman.
