Breakfast’s back on the pitch with Season 9 serve

MUMBAI: The toast of cricket talk shows is back, and it’s serving fresh stories with a side of wit. Oaktree Sports has announced the return of Breakfast with Champions for its much-awaited ninth season, hosted by the ever-charming Gaurav Kapur.

Presented by Pop UPI and styled by Peter England, the new season premieres this October exclusively on Youtube, promising more laughter, locker-room confessions and heart behind the hustle.

From Virat Kohli and Hardik Pandya to Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Gavaskar, the show has already dished out some of the sport’s most unguarded conversations. This season, it’s going beyond the boundary, with cricketing stars joined by champions from other arenas, starting with Abhishek Sharma.

“Every season of Breakfast with Champions has grown in scale and soul,” said Oaktree Sports founder Gaurav Kapur. “What began as casual chats has become a celebration of the human side of sport.”

Pop UPI founder Bhargav Errangi added, “Just like our Popcoins reward loyalty, Breakfast with Champions rewards its audience with authenticity. It’s all about consistency and excellence, just like champions themselves.”

Adding polish to the table, Peter England steps in as wardrobe partner with its sleek Gentlemen’s league collection, while brand strategy firm Next Narrative ensures the storytelling remains top-tier.

With a power-packed guest list, sharp humour and plenty of heart, Breakfast with Champions – Season 9 is all set to remind fans why mornings with Gaurav Kapur are the most entertaining meal in sport.

  • Ravi Shastri’s ‘king of good times’ avatar in latest Cred ad sets the internet abuzz

Ravi Shastri’s ‘king of good times’ avatar in latest Cred ad sets the internet abuzz

Former Indian cricket head coach, Ravi Shastri’s fondness for alcohol is well known. Shastri himself has never shied away from acknowledging that a good brew of beer is good enough to lift his spirits! But this has also led him to be the butt of trolls and a source of many memes on social media on numerous occasions in the past. Cashing in on this premise, Cred’s latest and probably the final ad spot for this IPL, celebrates and reinforces this image of Shastri as Indian cricket’s ‘King of good times’. And the internet is loving it!

A day prior to the campaign launch, Ravi Shastri set the internet abuzz by sharing speculative pics of him partying away (which we now know are shots from the ad film) with suggestive captions such as: ‘Good mornings are optional if you haven’t slept at all’, or ‘My family lives in Mumbai and I live in the moment.’ And even bizarre tweets like ‘Mujhe kya mein toh chill hun’ and suspicious sounding ones like: ‘I’m in a good mood today, ask me anything. #AskRavi ‘

Sharing the brand film with a hilarious ‘Don’t remember any of this’ caption, Shastri even went on to update his Twitter bio to ‘Happy Hours always ’ followed by a ‘cheers’ emoji.

The film showcases the former coach in a badass, snazzy avatar, and further drives in his spirit-loving image, with the comical usage of the popular ‘sattar minute’ phrase for happy hours, and lines like ‘I used to be a batsman, but for you, I can be a keeper’, ‘Waste mat karo yaar’ for popping the bubbly.

Also, Jim Sarabh seems to have retired well and truly from the brand’s films, with his signature line taken up by the celebrity himself- in this instance Shastri- spouting lines like, “Being Ravi Shastri is fun. But not as fun as paying your credit card bills on Cred and getting rewards!”

The writing is credited to the AIB team of Tanmay Bhat, Devaiah Bopanna, Puneet Chadha, among others. The Twitterati, of course, lapped it up, with even his former coaches and team India cricketers joining in the fun and banter surrounding the video. Indian Cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal responded to the film with a tweet saying: Ravi Shastri gave the best ’70 minute’ speech ever.

Addressing the senior cricketer, ‘Ravi sir’, cricketer Shubman Gill called it “Dawn of a new era”.

Meanwhile, television and cricket presenter, Gaurav Kapur, known for being the host of the pre-match Indian Premier League show, Extraaa Innings T20 and Cricbuzz Live jumped in, saying, “I can personally vouch for the fact that evenings with the champ are as much fun as this”, following it with partying emojis.

Cred shared the video on YouTube with the accompanying, fun message purportedly from the senior cricketer: “As Ravi Shastri, I want to make it very clear that all my parties are invite-only. But I admire our youth and their potential, so if you’re able to do all of the following, you’re automatically on the guest list.”

It went on to add five pointers for ‘making the cut: “1. Open beer bottles with a bat. If you ask how, you’re already out. 2. Analyse footage from the party to see where drinks were wasted 3. Bartend 24×7 4. Carry an extra case of cough syrup at all times 5. Parallel park the bar-counter If you make the cut, congratulations. You’re never going to remember another night in your life again”.

The caption goes on to make a case for the credit card payment app brand, with the cricketer signing off with: “Believe me, I know what’s fun.”

Gauging from the change in tone and tenor of the latest Cred ‘Play it Different’ ad, from its previous nostalgia-inducing series and before that, the celebrities doing stuff completely uncharacteristic to their personalities – remember the angry Dravid and quirky Kapil Dev films- would this be the beginning of a new series of ad films for the credit card payment brand? One wherein celebrities join in to reiterate and even reinforce their much-maligned image? If so, wonder which other celebrity is going to go next! Wait and watch this space for more…

“You V YouTube is a unique quiz show that not only brings together some of India’s best creators but also gives contestants a chance to both learn and earn, in a fun filled environment,” said Fremantle India managing director Aradhana Bhola. “The series has been filmed entirely virtually, with cast and contestants participating from the safety of their own homes during the pandemic; a feat that makes us proud. What’s even more gratifying is that whatever sum of money a contestant has won on the show has been matched in donation along with the proceeds of the live play (available to viewers during the premiere episode) to charities working for covid relief.”

The YouTube creators who will appear as guests on the show include Roshni Mukherjee (science), Gaurav Garg (general knowledge) Ganesh Pai (mathematics), Ceema Picardo (English), Arun Krishnamurthy (environment), Gaurav Chaudhary (Technology), Nidhi Mohan (health and wellness) Ranveer Brar (food), Reena D’Souza (sports), Sucharita Tyagi (movies and music), Rachana Ranade (finance) and Tanya Khanijow (travel).

  • Spotify invests in 3 original podcasts for Indian market

Spotify invests in 3 original podcasts for Indian market

MUMBAI: Opening new opportunities for the growing creator community in India, Spotify has announced three original podcasts for the country, which will go live on the platform on 3 December. Tapping into pop culture, cricket centric ‘22 Yarns with Gaurav Kapur’, fiction thriller ‘Bhaskar Bose’ narrated by Mantra, and love and relationship advice-based ‘Love Aaj Kal’ by Aastha & Ankit, Spotify is looking forward to strengthen its position within the market.

The announcement comes as a reiteration to Spotify’s global audio-first strategy that focuses on the brand’s potential to grow faster with more original podcasts. As with music artists, Spotify aims to offer better discovery, data, and monetization to podcast creators.

Spotify marketing director—India Amarjit Singh Batra said, “Storytelling is intrinsic to India, and almost nostalgic because most of us have grown on stories that our grandparents and parents told us; Spotify wants to re-establish that listening culture here, especially as users seek more screen-free moments. We are so happy to partner with these talented storytellers who’ve managed to explore different aspects of the local culture to deliver differentiated content and rekindle the love Indians have for audio.”

With over 500,000 podcast titles on the platform, up from 10,000 in 2018, Spotify has seen exponential growth in the podcast hours streamed globally (up approximately 39 per cent from Q2 2019 to Q3 2019), with podcast adoption reaching almost 14 per cent of total monthly active users (MAUs). And while the U.S. accounts for the largest share of podcast streams, a majority of the growth and listening is now coming from outside the U.S.

“Just a little over one year ago, we announced Spotify for Podcasters, which provides listener insights to all creators who have podcasts on our platform. Today, we have 140,000 registered creators across the world, on the platform, and the data for a few of these creators shows that India features in their top streamed markets. Much of this content is lifestyle, educational, and news,” added Batra.

India features in the all-time top 3 streaming markets for tech show Waveform: The MKBHD Podcast, and for On Purpose with Jay Shetty, a show that’s been number 1 on Spotify’s India podcast chart since the time of launch. The country is also currently in the top ten streaming markets for TED Talks Daily and The Mindset Mentor. Other globally acclaimed podcasts such as Stuff You Should Know, and BBC’s Global News Podcast are also in the top 20 most streamed podcasts in India. Interestingly, local charts showcase 60 per cent of the top 10 podcasts on Spotify are on self-motivation-based lifestyle content.

Globally, Spotify has invested in new original podcasts in the US, Europe, and South America. In June this year, President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama’s production company, Higher Ground, announced a partnership with Spotify to produce podcasts exclusive to the platform. The acquisitions of podcast networks Gimlet, and Parcast, and creator platform Anchor have also enabled the company to invest in high-quality content as well as providing an easy way for creators to record a podcast, respectively. In fact, the Sandeep Maheshwari podcast is an example of how Indian creators can leverage Anchor to create their content.

Unilever bags max at Zee Mindspace Awards

NEW DELHI: Leading content company, Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) today announced the winners of the first edition of ZEE Mindspace Awards that aims at recognizing brands that have captured maximum mndSpace.

Hindustan Unilever led the awards tally with wins across five categories, followed by  LG Corp with three category wins, Mondelez and Coca-Cola with two category wins each. The winners were decided on the basis of a nationwide survey that was carried out by Nielsen, evaluating 288 brands across 36 categories. The awards ceremony was held on 27 August at #ZEEMelt 2016 – India’s biggest festival for creativity and innovation in marketing and communications.

Speaking at the awards function, Zeel managing director & CEO Punit Goenka said: “ZEE Mindspace Awards is a property which gives marketers a true reflection of their efforts sown in building brands. The very essence of the awards is its USP – the winners are not chosen by a jury but by the consumers themselves. The structured research conducted across the nation by Nielsen has empowered the consumers to select the most recalled brands as the winners, in a unique and transparent process. Congratulations to all the deserving winners!”

Added ZEEL chief business officer Sunil Buch:  “For any brand to get into the mindspace it requires all the elements of marketing and sales to come together. Today there are standalone awards for creativity, marketing, media etc. but none that holistically represents the orchestra required to get into and stay in the mind of the consumer. ZEE Mindspace Awards 2016 are the first to recognise the success of all the elements that go into occupying the mindspace.”

“ZEE Mindspace Awards is the first forward-looking, future-oriented awards property that looks at not just a part of the marketing process, but at the entire outcome,” expressed Nilesen managing director south Asia  Prashant Singh. “After an extensive online survey of over 12,000 consumers, it was impressive to see which brands in India command the maximum consumer ‘mindspace’ based on our parameters of top-of-mind recall, popularity, the kind of advocacy the brand commands, the desire to own the brand and finally the buzz it generates.  Congratulations to these winners who have managed to carve the maximum mindspace in consumers’ minds.”
