    ETV Marathi greets Ganesha fest with shows, contests

    MUMBAI: ETV Marathi has lined up shows and contests to celebrate the Ganesha festival. The channel is also telecasting the Ganesh immersion processions live from several locations in Maharashtra.

    From 18 September onwards, the channel will air drama and dance recitals based on Ganesha daily from 8:30 am to 9 am. In addition to this, entertainment programmes and comedy skits are also being planned.

    On 20 September the channel will air the traditional dance Lavani at 5:05 pm. The show will be of one-hour duration. . Sakhyano Kheluya, games for women, will air on 21 September at 5:05 pm. Folk dance show and a performance of stand up comedy will at 5:05 pm on 22 September. 23 September is devoted to fun filled programmes. Mangal Gaani Dangal Gaani, a programme based on humorous songs, will air at 5:05 on 24 September.

    To add colour to the 10-day long celebration, ETV Marathi is launching a couple of special festival related contest. The ETV Marathi Fevicol Makhar is a photographic contest open for Ganeshas put up in residences and in public places. Interested contestants have to shoot the presentation from four different angles and send it to ETV Marathi. The channel will be screening special episodes where the winning decoration will be screened. The contest will be judged based on jury review and audience opinion. In addition to the three winners, the channel will also give away special prizes for the couple of first entries.

    The ETV Marathi Social Knowledge contest will be held in different cities. The contest will be held at locations where Ganeshas are placed. The contestants will be quizzed on questions relating to social relevance.

    Kannada filmdom to witness producers’ ‘action’

    BANGALORE: The Kannada film producers and their supporters will meet in Hubli on Saturday, 18 September to force theatre owners to release a Kannada film.

    The film in question, Upendra-starrer Omkara, is scheduled for release on 18 September. The release of the movie coincides with the star’s birthday and the opening day of the Ganesha festival.

    The producers along with a lot of support from the actor’s fraternity reportedly including the doyen of the Kannada film industry – Rajkumar will stage a protest march in Hubli starting from Kittur Rani Channama Circle to Lakshmi Shetty Theater.

    The meeting is to ensure that Omkara is released in North Karnataka districts. The producers have reportedly placed ads for release of Omkara in six theaters in North Karnataka, one each in Hubli, Dharwad, Belgaum, Bellary, Gadag and Bagalkot.

    In response to the Kannada Film Exhibitors Federation’s (KEFF) request for police protection, the director general of police has reportedly assured the organisation that nobody could force them to release the film and that they would prevent the film fraternity and the crowd from gate-crashing.

    KFPA president Basant Kumar Patil is quoted in media reports as saying, “How can they (theatres) not release the movie when the rest of the state is. We will ensure that it is released.”

    Meanwhile, actor politician Ambarish who was brought in to mediate and sort the issue is meeting all the three directly effected parties – KFPA, exhibitors and distributors on 17 September.
