    HBO receives 126 Emmy nominations; ‘Game of Thrones’ leads

    MUMBAI: HBO has received a total of 126 Primetime Emmy nominations, the most of any network for the 15th year in a row, for the upcoming 67th Primetime Emmy Awards.

     

    Game of Thrones led all nominees with 24 nominations, while Olive Kitteridge received 13 nominations, and Bessie received 12 nominations.

     

    HBO’s Emmy nominations this year include:

    24 nominations for Game of Thrones, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series (Peter Dinklage), two for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (Emilia Clarke, Lena Headey), Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series (Diana Rigg), two for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (David Nutter, Jeremy Podeswa) and Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series (David Benioff and D.B. Weiss).

    Other HBO nominees include Alan Alda and the Actor Within You: A YoungArtsMasterclass, Beyonce and Jay Z On the Run, Bill Maher: Live from D.C., The Comeback, Getting On, The Newsroom, Sinatra: All or Nothing at All, True Blood and Vice.

     

    In addition, the Cinemax series The Knick received five nominations, including Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series (Steven Soderbergh).

     

    The Primetime Emmy Awards will be announced on 20 September.

    MUMBAI: As HBO Defined counts down to the premiere of the fifth season of the iconic TV series Game of Thrones, it has activated a unique virtual game to engage with the growing number of followers.

     

    With the much-awaited new season of the adventure-fantasy series coming to Indian audiences exactly at the same time as its US premiere – 13 April at 6:30 am, and repeat telecast at 10 pm, the channel has elaborate plans to engage with its fans and followers.

     

    For the first time ever, HBO Defined has launched a Game of Thrones micro-site, which will be the focal point of its online promotional strategy. With a view to riding the hype and play up the ‘fight for the throne’, the site features an artfully designed game. Fans stand a chance to win a seat at the preview screening of the season five premiere episode and exciting Game of Thrones merchandise by participating in the Fight For Your Throne challenge.

     

    On FightForYourThrone.com, the channel plans to invite the fan to select his or her ‘army’ i.e. be one of the Starks, Lannisters, Targaryens or Baratheons. Then, with a stylised interface, the game entices the fan to delve in, either to battle against an opponent or go on a quest to earn gold – eventually seeking the grandmaster’s signature potions.

     

    Furthermore, the channel’s virtual plans are unique as in addition to three quests of different levels, one can win a chance to play the next level in the real world. In this ultimate test, fans will vouch to complete real-life quests, almost like a scavenger hunt with intriguing clues. The big prize, i.e. the ‘throne’ has been positioned as a seat at an exclusive preview screening of the new season’s first episode.

     

    HBO’s Fight For Your Throne campaign will not just rely on creative execution, but also a solid engagement through Facebook, Twitter, Comic Con and cross promo tie-ups, claims the channel.

    ‘Game Of Thrones’ actor Natalia Tena to attend Bangalore Comic Con

    MUMBAI: Actor Natalia Tena, who has starred in HBO’s hit series Game Of Thrones as well as the Harry Potter movies, will be attending the Bangalore Comic Con 2015 on 3 – 4 April.

     

    The Bangalore Comic Con 2015 will be held at the White Orchid Convention Centre from 3 – 5 April, 2015.

     

    Tena is an actress and musician from London. She made her acting debut as Ellie in About a Boy in 2002, and shortly after appeared in Mrs Henderson Presents alongside Judi Dench. In 2007, she joined the cast of Harry Potter, playing Nymphadora Tonks: Lupin’s partner and friend of Harry in Order of the Phoenix.

     

    Tena reprised the role of Tonks in the Harry Potter films The Half Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2. Shortly after she appeared in Bel Amiwith Robert Pattinson and the UK TV show Shameless. In 2011 she appeared in  Game of Thrones, the HBO adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire as the wildling Osha. She portrayed Osha in all three series. Natalia’s upcoming projects include Spanish film 10,000 km, comedy SuperBoband BBC worldwide’s The Refugees.

     

    The Bangalore Comic Con will also be attended by another Game of Thrones actor Daniel Portman. 

     

    Portman and Tena will be attending and taking part in special sessions, signing posters and speaking to fans.

     

    Season five of Game of Thrones is slated to premiere in India on 13 April at 10 pm, within 24 hours of the US premiere exclusively on HBO Defined, 100 per cent ad-free, followed by other episodes on subsequent Mondays at the same time.

    MUMBAI: In an unprecedented move, Game of Thrones will premiere in over 170 countries and territories across the globe simultaneously with HBO’s US airing on 12 April.

     

    The entire fifth season of the Emmy, Golden Globe and Peabody-winning series will be simulcast to HBO branded networks and broadcast partners across the world, creating a global television event week after week throughout the season’s 10-episode run.

     

    “We are thrilled to see our international partners jumping on board to bring Game of Thrones, one of the most universally loved television shows in the world, to global audiences at the same time it airs on HBO in the US. It’s going to be a great season,” said HBO programming president Michael Lombardo.

     

     Indian fans too can rejoice as it is one of the 170 countries across the globe where the upcoming season of the hit series is going to premiere simultaneously with HBO’s U.S. airing on 13 April at 6 30 am IST on HBO Defined, with following episodes on subsequent Mondays at the same time. The repeat telecast of the fifth season will be on Monday’s at 10 pm on HBO Defined.

    NEW DELHI: Actor Daniel Portman, who has starred in the HBO series Games of Thrones, will be among those attending the Comic Con India in Bangalore. 

     

    This is for the first time that Comic Con India is bringing in an international actor as a special guest to Bangalore. 

     

    Mark Gatiss, actor, co-creator and executive producer of BBC’s hit series Sherlock attended Mumbai Film and Comic Con 2014 in December. 

     

    Bangalore Comic Con 2015 will be held at White Orchid Convention Centre from 3 to 5 April. 

     

    Portman is a Scottish actor, born in Glasgow. He earned an HNC in acting and performing at Reid Kier College in Paisley, Scotland. His first role was as Paul in the 2010 supernatural thriller film Outcast alongside Game of Thrones‘ actors James Cosmo and Kate Dickie. Following Outcast he appeared in the Scottish comedy film The Angel’s Share

     

    It was in 2011 when it was announced that Portman would be playing Podrick Payne in HBO’s adaptation of George R. R. Martin’s Game of Thrones. Podrick is the loyal squire to Tyrion Lannister and has appeared in the show since its second season. Portman will be returning to the series’ fifth season.

     

    Portman said, “I am very excited to be coming to Bangalore for Bangalore Comic Con in April. I am looking forward to meeting my Indian fans and having a great weekend.”

     

    He will be a part of special sessions and talk about his character in the show and will answer the questions from fans about both previous seasons and the forthcoming season, which premieres a week after the event. Also, he will sign exclusive posters for the fans at the convention.

     

    Comic Con India founder Jatin Varma said, “We wanted to give GOT fans in the city something to look forward to, and Daniel’s presence is one of the many things we have planned this year!”

    MUMBAI: Home Box Office will launch its standalone premium streaming service called HBO Now in April, bringing the new product to audiences in time for the fifth season of Game of Thrones. HBO has joined hands with Apple, wherein for the first time an HBO subscription will be made available directly to Apple customers through HBO Now.

     

    HBO Now provides instant access to HBO’s programming. Watch every episode of every season of the best series programming, more of the biggest and latest Hollywood hit movies, original HBO Films, groundbreaking documentaries, sports, and comedy and music specials.

     

    Apple will give viewers the ability to enjoy HBO programming via HBO Now. Upon launch, customers can subscribe using the HBO Now app on their iPhone, iPad or iPod touch or directly on Apple TV for instant access. Users can purchase HBO Now directly in-app for $14.99 a month. Upon registering, subscribers will also be able to watch at HBONow.com. HBO will offer a 30 day introductory free trial period to new HBO Now customers who sign up through Apple in April.

     

    HBO continues to be in discussions with its existing network of distributors and new digital partners to offer HBO Now. At launch, HBO Now will be available on iOS devices and on PCs.

With this new partnership, a natural evolution for the network, we have access to millions of Apple customers who are used to getting their favorite apps immediately. Interactive Entertainment has unveiled its slate of upcoming mobile game releases, showcasing diverse free-to-play and premium gaming experiences and leveraging some of the world’s most powerful franchises, including Batman, DC Comics, Mortal Kombat, the Lego brand and Game of Thrones.

     

    “Our mobile business has been a key priority for the company, and we are utilizing our incredibly talented internal development teams to create games with marquee franchises. We’ve seen tremendous growth with our mobile business and expect to increase our market share by applying our best in class development, publishing and brand marketing to this impressive slate of games,” said Warner Bros.     Voice cast announced for ‘Angry Birds’ movie

    MUMBAI: Columbia pictures announced the cast for its upcoming animated film adaptation of popular game Angry Birds.

     

    The cast was revealed after fans of the game worked together to sling one billion birds over the past 48 hours.

     

    The film will center on a furious flock of three: Red, Chuck and Bomb.

     

    Horrible Bosses fame actor Jason Sudeikis will lead the cast as Red, a bird with a temper problem, accompanied with Jobs’ Josh Gad as speedy Chuck, and Danny McBride of Eastbound & Down as the volatile Bomb.

     

    Game of Thrones actor Peter Dinklage will bring the character of legendary Mighty Eagle alive on screen while Matilda, the white bird who lays egg bombs, will be voiced by Maya Rudolph of Bridesmaids fame.

     

    The movie will also will feature Bill Hader, Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale, Ike Barinholtz and Hannibal Buress.

     

    “I’m extremely proud of this cast. Not only do we have Jason, Josh, Danny, Bill, Maya and Peter bringing these characters to life, but they’re surrounded by an all-star ensemble of emerging comic talent — these are some of the funniest people out there today, and we’re thrilled to have them all on board,” said John Cohen, producer of the film, in a press release.

     

    The film is set for a 1 July 2016 release and will be directed by Fergal Reilly of Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and Frozen famed Clay Kaytis while the screenplay will be written by Jon Vitti of The Simpsons. The movie is a partnership between Finnish Angry Birds creator Rovio and Hollywood studio Sony.

     

    The Angry Birds movie will mark game maker Rovio’s first leap into feature films, though they have been producing ‘Angry Birds Toons’ through their Toons TV online channel.

    Natalie Dormer to play zombie in ‘Patient Zero’

    MUMBAI: Natalie Dormer has been confirmed to star in the Stefan Ruzowitzky’s upcoming zombie movie Patient Zero.

     

    The movie is based around a mutated form of rabies that turns the infected predators into a new species, addicted to violence and with its own language and one man has ‘the unique ability to speak with the undead’ and sets out on a mission to find the cure and save his zombified wife.

     

    Scripted by Mike Le, Vincent Newman is set to produce the film through his company Vincent Newman Entertainment. The movie is yet to be given a release date.

     

    Meanwhile, Dormer will next be seen playing Cressida in ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 in November and then again in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 next year.

     

    The blonde beauty has a string of movies under her belt – including A Long Way From Home, Rush, and The Counselor – but is best known for playing Margaery Tyrell in HBO series Game of Thrones.

    MUMBAI: Discovery Channel presents its first scripted series KLONDIKE, which focuses on the Klondike gold rush in the 1890s and is based on Charlotte Gray’s book Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike.

     

    Featuring an all-star cast including Richard Madden (King of the North Robb Stark on Game of Thrones, A Promise), Abbie Cornish (RoboCop, Limitless), Tim Roth (Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs) and Sam Shepard (August: Osage County, Out Of The Furnace), KLONDIKE tells the powerful story of the last great Gold Rush in our history. This epic six hour series will air from June 23 to 28, every night at 10 PM.

     

    Based on Charlotte Gray’s book “Gold Diggers: Striking It Rich in the Klondike,” the six-part period drama brings to life the tale of seven strangers and their collective fight for survival and wealth in a small, frontier town in the remote Klondike. The journey begins in 1897 when two childhood best friends, Bill (Madden) and Epstein (Augustus Prew) make the perilous journey through the North American wilderness to Klondike boom town Dawson City, “The Paris of the North,” where neither law nor order prevailed.  In the untamed Yukon Territory during a period of outrageous lawlessness – murder, revenge, riches, violence and redemption awaited these two young, ambitious men who made the arduous, back-breaking journey to Dawson City.

    KLONDIKE is a man-versus-nature tale that places the characters in a land full of undiscovered wealth, but ravaged by harsh conditions, unpredictable weather and deceptive, dangerous individuals fueled by desperateness – including greedy businessmen, seductive courtesans and native tribes witnessing the destruction of their people and land by opportunistic entrepreneurs.
