    FX promises to up its edge this New Year with a New prime time lineup

    MUMBAI: FX, India’s exclusive destination for edgy and fast paced shows across genres is all set to up its game this New Year. The one stop shop for some of the best dramas, thrillers and comical shows will now boast of a more phenomenal line up to appeal to an even wider audience base.

     

    In January, FX is set to change its weekday prime time lineup.

     

    The X-Files – Essential Collection airing from Monday to Friday at 11 PM till January 28, 2016.

     

    The first of the lot is the cult sci-fi series ‘The X-Files – Essential Collection’. Having premiered on January 1st, The X-Files – Essential Collection is a widely talked about and hugely anticipated build up series, to the all-new X-Files mini-series specially curated by the creator of the original series, Chris Carter himself. Carter has personally chosen 20 special episodes along with some never-seen-before footage to give new and long-standing audiences an extra edge before they catch up with the all-new event series.

     

    Scare Tactics every Monday to Friday at 8 PM

     

    The New Year also welcomed the premiere of the bone-chilling show Scare Tactics – a hidden camera, comedy television series that pranks victims by putting them into terrifying situations involving incredible special effects and makeup that recreates horror movie clichés, on FX. The show is meant to scare victims set up by their family and/or friends later revealing the prank with the break-out line – “Are you scared?” An exciting twist of thrill and spine-tingling entertainment, the show proves that there is nothing better than a hidden camera, an unsuspecting victim and the world’s coolest, most terrifying pranks involving movie style special effects.

     

    House Season 1-8, starting 13th Jan every Monday to Friday at 10 PM

     

    Following suit is one of the most popular shows on global television, House M.D. Airing right from Season 1 on January 13, 2016, the doctor that everyone loves to hate will come on Indian television screens every day from Monday to Friday at 10 PM. The show follows the genius but cranky yet charming Dr. House as he leads an elite medical team to solve bizarre illnesses and save lives despite his own constant physical pain. Hugh Laurie who portrayed the legendary character of Doctor House was a favourite among viewers across the globe. Now the show returns to television screens with all seasons being played out one after another.

     

    The channel will also include renowned American comedy-drama television series Louie and critically-acclaimed cult sci-fi series Doctor Who as part of its programming line-up. While Season 1 of Louie commenced on January 1st, Doctor Who’s Season 8 will also begin with the airing of its very first episode on January 12th.

    MUMBAI: Taking the Christmas cheer into the New Year, which will be sprinkled with splendid celebrations across every corner of the world, English entertainment and movie channels have also gone that extra mile to wind up 2015 for its viewers.

    What’s in store for viewers are power packed shows and movies as a New Year treat. As we bid farewell to 2015, those who are staying put at home in front of the television on New Year’s eve as well as the first day of 2016, here’s what lined up for that extra doze of enjoyment in terms of movies and shows across English channels.

    AXN

    The English entertainment channel will enthral viewers with its midnight marathon by airing the sixth season of Sex and the City on 1 and 2 January, 2016 as the New Year special programming from 12 am to 5 am.

    The channel will also telecast the first season of Limitless on 1 January from 11 am to 8 pm. The show portrays a man who gains the ability to use the full extent of his brain’s capabilities.

    Colors Infinity

    The recently launched English entertainment channel will air Mr. Robot on 31 December, 2015 starting from 2 pm all day long. Elliot Alderson is a young cyber-security engineer living in New York, who assumes the role of a vigilante hacker by night. Elliot meets a mysterious anarchist known as Mr. Robot who recruits Elliot to join his team of hackers, named ‘fsociety.’

    Comedy Central

    The year-end will showcase the best of comedy aired on Comedy Central throughout 2015. The channel will air season 1 of Mom, an award winning mother-daughter comedy on 31 December, 2015 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The show follows the story of single mom Christy played by Anna Faris and her battle against alcoholism and drug abuse.

    The channel will also air season 3 of Citizen Khan from 8 pm to 10 pm. The story revolves around a family after it arrives back from a trip to Pakistan, Mr Khan’s mother-in-law announces she wants to move into a home. When Sam, the head of a local care centre arrives, Mr Khan is over-the-moon. That is, until he discovers the mother-in-law may be worth some money. With the help of son-in-law-to-be Amjad, a ridiculous disguise and a spying mission, Mr Khan tries to stop naani moving out at all costs.

    FX

    FX, for the very first time in India will premiere a funny yet terrifying prank show, Scare Tactics on 1 January at 8 pm. Scare Tactics is a hidden camera prank show that puts victims into terrifying situations, usually involving movie-style special effects and makeup that recreates horror movie clichés. The victims, generally four per episode, are set up by friends and/or family in tandem with the producers.

    The channel will also premiere The X-Files – Essential Collection, starting from 1 – 28 January, 2016 every Monday to Friday at 11 pm. The series will consist of 20 selected episodes from previous seasons of The X Files personally chosen and curated by original series creator, Chris Carter along with some never-seen-before footage as a build-up to the all-new miniseries of the cult sci-fi show releasing in 2016!

    Movies Now

    Movies Now, as part of 100 Mania, will air Man of Steel at 9 pm on 31 December. The channel will also add an extra element of excitement for its viewers by giving out an iPhone 6S as a prize on the day.

    Additionally, MN+ will treat its viewers by premiering Kate Winslet’s Little Chaos at 9 pm on New Year’s Eve.

    The channel will also hold the mega-premiere of the Hollywood comedy, That Awkward Moment on 1 January at 11 pm. The movie stars Zac Efron, Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller, and is written and directed by Tom Gormican.

    The movie revolves around three best friends and the turmoil’s of their relationships, which results in them deciding to stay single and enjoy life. Things however change when the boys Jason, Daniel and Mikey start juggling their single life with their romantic interest as things get really awkward for them to handle.

    Romedy Now

    The channel will add to the joy of New Year by airing the widely loved show How I Met Your Mother all day long from 9 am to 9 pm. The channel will also premiere She’s Funny That Way at 9 pm.

    Star Movies

    The channel is all geared up with an exciting line-up of best of Hollywood movies this New Year. The channel for its 31 December schedule will air Exodus: Gods and Kings at 1 pm followed by Dawn of the Planet of the Apes at 5 pm. Next in line is Real Steel, which will be aired at 7 pm followed by Titanic at 9 pm.

    On 1 January, the channel will premiere X-Men at 2 pm followed with Fantastic Four at 4 pm. X2: X-Men United will see its broadcast at 6 pm with X-Men: Days of Future Past scheduled next.

    Star Movies Select HD

    Star Movies Select HD will air a few blockbuster hits on 31 December starting with Tangled at 5 pm followed by Wall Street at 7 pm. The next in line is The Bourne Supremacy at 9 pm and Gone Girl at 11 pm.

    The channel, for its 1 January treat, will air movies like Mary Poppins at 11 am followed by The Grand Budapest Hotel at 1 pm. The heart-warming movie, Fault in our Stars will be telecast at 5 pm. Viewers will also be able to enjoy other movies like Remember the Titans at 7 pm, Snow White and the Huntsmen at 9 pm and Alan Partridge: The Movie at 11 pm.

    Star World Premiere HD

    The channel has lined up a row of special programming reflecting the spirit of celebration called, Mad Hatter’s Party. The party will begin on 31 December from 12 pm onwards with season 1 of Muppets. The show includes characters Kermit the Frog, Rizzo the Rat, Beaker, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Waldorf, Rowlf the Dog, Bobo the bear and many more as the cast.

    The Muppets serves as a parody of other mockumentary-style series, such as Modern Family, Parks and Recreation andThe Office, by employing the same single-camera setup filming style with the implication of a documentary crew filming everyone.

    The channel will also air season 7 of Modern Family on 1 January at 12 pm. The show known for its crazy antics among the members of the Dunphy and Pritchett families follows their daily lives as they deal with ups and downs in hilarious ways just like modern-day families in real-life who encounter various situations every day.

    Star World

    Star World and Star World HD, following an online poll asking viewers to pick the show they’d like to watch, will air back-to-back episodes of Two Broke Girls on 31 December and 1 January from 12 pm onwards. The poll, #YouPickTheShow wherein the channel had asked the users to vote for their favourite show was conducted via Star World’s digital properties and the choices given to the viewers were: Two and a Half Men season 12, Two Broke Girlsseason 4 and Melissa & Joey season 4.

A double treat for viewers this Christmas, FX will extend the festive feeling right from Christmas, 25 December 2015 up to 27 December 2015 for a merry-making X-Mas weekend.

     

    On 25 December 2015, the edgy entertainment channel as part of its Christmas will air Christmas special episodes of Doctor Who from its previous seasons namely Last Christmas – part 1 and part 2 , The Time of the Doctor – part 1 and 2, The Doctor, The Widow and The Wardrobe – part 1 and 2 and A Christmas Carol – part 1 and 2. The Christmas special marathon will be on-air all day on Christmas, starting 12 pm right till 8 pm. But the merriment does not end here.

     

    As part of an extended Christmas offering, FX and FX HD will be showcasing the all-new Christmas special episode The Husbands of River Song simulcast on 27 December at 11 pm.

     

    The all-new and exciting episode The Husbands of River Song boasts the return of River Song (played by guest star) Alex Kingston. One of the most loved characters on the show since 2008, Professor River Song was introduced to the series as an experienced future companion of series protagonist the Doctor, an alien Time Lord who travels through time in his Tardis. A time-traveller herself, River was initially a companion, then a romantic interest and eventually became the wife of the Doctor in his eleventh incarnation, portrayed by Matt Smith. Other actresses have subsequently portrayed younger versions of the character since her first appearance in 2008.

     

    It’s Christmas Day in the future and the Tardis is parked on a snowy village street, covered in icicles, awaiting its next adventure. Time traveller River Song meets her husband’s new incarnation, in the form of Peter Capaldi, for the first time this Christmas. But wait, will she even know that the Doctor is the Doctor? And is she married to someone else too?

     

    The episode follows the Doctor’s latest adventure when on Christmas Day 5343, in the remote human colony of Mendorax Dellora, the Doctor is hiding from Christmas carollers and comedy reindeer antlers. But when a crashed spaceship calls upon him for help, the doctor quickly finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad, and hurled into a fast, frantic chase across the galaxy pursued by River’s new husband, his Infinite Majesty King Hydroflax of the Final Cluster. Will any of them make it out alive? And when will River Song work out who the Doctor is? All will be revealed on a star-liner full of galactic super-villains, and a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a very long time

     

    The 2015 Doctor Who Christmas special is written by the series’ lead writer and executive producer, Steven Moffat. It is executive produced by Brian Minchin, produced by Nikki Wilson and directed by Douglas Mackinnon of both, Doctor Who and Sherlock fame.

     

    “To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show,” said Kingston of the special. “But here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special. Steven Moffat is on glittering form, giving us an episode filled with humor and surprise guest castings. I met Peter for the first time at Monday’s read through. We had a laugh, and I am now excited and ready to start filming with him and the Doctor Who team.”

     

    “Another Christmas, another special for Doctor Who,” says Moffat, “and what could be more special than the return of Alex Kingston as Professor River Song? The last time the Doctor saw her, she was a ghost. The first time he met her, she died. So how can he be seeing her again?     MUMBAI: FX, the English entertainment channel is all geared up to premiere the first episode of the series Lilyhammer. The series airs on 10 December 2015 at 10 pm and revolves around Frank, a New York mobster played by Steven Van Zandt.

    The lead is seen trying to start a new life in isolated Lillehammer, Norway as part of the Witness Protection Program after testifying against his former mafia associates. 

     

    Frank Tagliano (Van Zandt), a former underboss of the American Mafia, is placed in the Federal Witness Protection Program after testifying in a trial against Aldo Delucci (Thomas Grube), the new Mafia head who had ordered a hit on him after succeeding his recently deceased brother, Sally Boy Delucci. Frank requests that he be relocated to Lillehammer, where he believes no one will look for him. His new identity is Norwegian-American immigrant Giovanni “Johnny” Henriksen. On a train journey from Oslo to Lillehammer, Johnny impresses teacher Sigrid Haugli (Marian Saastad Ottesen), her son Jonas (Mikael Aksnes-Pehrson), and a man who later turns out to be a civil supervisor. However, soon he starts to feel lost in Lillehammer.

    MUMBAI: FX India has partnered with Havas Media India and wowed and engaged Doctor Who audiences in India through November making the 23rd a super memorable day in their lives!

     

    Doctor Who, the world’s longest running sci-fi show which premiered on BBC, November 23, 1963 has Whovians (fans), across the globe. Every year, The Doctor’s birthday is celebrated as TARDIS Day named after his Time Machine/Spacecraft and is one of the biggest events of the year for every Whovian.

     

    Doctor Who being one of the most appreciated shows on social media, FX India wanted to do something special for the Indian Whovians. What better way than a digital one-on-one with The Doctor himself – Peter Capaldi! Whovians could ask ‘that’ one question they always wanted to; and the contest winners would have their answer.

     

    The ball was set rolling by informing active fan clubs on Facebook that something big was coming their way. Keeping true to the show’s legacy they were informed of a chance of being a part of the next best thing to a ‘Companion’, a Doctor Who sidekick. This was done on Twitter as well.

     

    The tremendous response had fan clubs in the teaser stage actively sharing content as discussions ensued! The engagement for 24 hours from the first teaser was more than the previous 10 days put together. Further, Whovians shared the customised activity collateral. On Twitter, #AskDoctorWhoOnFX flooded itself on timelines everywhere with over 700,000 impressions in just 3 hours.

     

    Enthusiastic Whovians asked a total of 108 questions on Facebook & Twitter!

     

    To make sure that PeterCapaldi could answer as many fans questions as possible, a shortlist with the most frequently asked questions was drawn up – Peter’s opinion on something or the telling of his experiences.

     

    The questions were answered on air and digital on TARDIS day, November 23, 2015. The day was made extra special by holding an online contest for fans as a throwback to the 52 years of Doctor Who. This received an enthusiastic response from eager fans such that #TARDISdayOnFX – trended for over 16 hours on a national scale, trumping even the hottest topics of the day!

     

    The celebrations saw #TARDISdayOnFXgather over 21.5 million impressions with over 7,000 tweets from 400+ contributors. As a special treat for the fans, TARDIS day wishes from The Doctor was shared via a video link

    MUMBAI: FX is all set to premiere Season 1 of the suspense drama anthology series, The Missing. The James Nesbitt and Frances O’Conner starrer will premiere on 30 November 2015 at 10 pm.

     

    The show is an anthological series chronicling the life of a married couple, Tony Hughes and Emily Hughes, played by James Nesbitt and Frances O’Connor respectively, after they lose their five year old son, Oliver, while vacationing in France. The show is conceptualized around Tony’s exhaustive search which fractures his marriage to Emily and threatens to destroy his life.

     

    The show is available for Indian viewers and is narrated over two frames simultaneously in two countries, as it explores the emotional cost borne by parents after a child’s abduction.

    MUMBAI: FX has ordered the sixth instalment of the groundbreaking and award-winning anthology limited series American Horror Story. The news was announced by the CEO of FX Networks and FX Productions John Landgraf. The sixth instalment will air in 2016 with the next chapter of the Emmy and Golden Globe winning franchise co-created by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.

     

    “With the sixth instalment coming next year, American Horror Story has unquestionably joined the ranks of television’s landmark series,” Landgraf said. “From Murder House to HotelAHS has pioneered a new television form as well becoming FX’s highest rated show — while also pushing every conceivable boundary of creative excellence and audacity. This is even more remarkable because Ryan and co-creator Brad Falchuk tear up the playbook every year, challenging the entire creative team to come up with something even more spectacular, frightful and entertaining. You could not ask more of an artist, their team or a series and with every new installment they deliver.”

     

    Ryan Murphy serves as co-creator, Showrunner, executive producer, writer and director of American Horror Story: Hotel and Brad Falchuk is co-Creator, executive producer and writer. Tim Minear, Brad Buecker, Jennifer Salt, James Wong and Alexis Martin Woodall also serve as executive producers. The American Horror Story franchise is produced by Twentieth Century Fox Television.

      

    American Horror Story: Hotel will return with a new episode on 21 November 2015 at 11 pm entitledFlicker.

     

    American Horror Story: Hotel features an all-star cast of Lady Gaga, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Wes Bentley, Matt Bomer, Chloë Sevigny, Denis O’Hare, Cheyenne Jackson, Evan Peters and Finn Wittrock.

     

    The first four instalments of the American Horror Story limited series franchise have received 71 Emmy Award nominations and 13 Emmy Award wins, including five Emmy awards for its fourth instalment, American Horror Story: Freak Show.

    MUMBAI: In a major shuffle of roles, Star India is all set to promote two of its senior employees with extended roles.

     

    Star India business head – English cluster, Star Jalsha, Jalsha Movies and Channel V Kevin Vaz is all set to take additional responsibility of the network’s Hindi general entertainment channels (GECs). With this, Vaz will now also head Star Plus and Life OK in addition to FX, Fox Crime, Star World, Star World HD, Star World Premiere HD, Star Movies, Star Movies Action, Star Jalsha, Jalsha Movies and Channel V. The total number of channels under him now tot up to 12. It may be recalled that Channel V fell into Vaz’s portfolio only earlier this year.  

     

    Meanwhile, Star India executive vice president – content strategy Gaurav Banerjee has been upped as the deputy chief creative officer – content studio. 

     

    Confirming the development to Indiantelevision.com, a source said, “It’s just a reward to their respective contribution to the network.”

     

    Vaz joined Star India in the mid 90s, while Banerjee was roped in by his mentor Star India CEO Uday Shankar in 2008 to kick-start the broadcaster’s regional news channel business.

     

    At the time of filing this story, Vaz and Banerjee were unavailable for comment.

    MUMBAI: Fox International Channels (FIC) Europe & Africa has appointed Ratna Siriah as general manager for Africa.

     

    Siriah will report directly to Fox International Channels UK, Nordic region, Turkey and Africa EVP Adam Theiler. She will be based in Johannesburg where she assumes management of the company’s business in the region.

     

    In Africa, FIC operates pay TV channels in the entertainment, factual and sports segments including: Fox, Fox Crime, FX, National Geographic Channel, Nat Geo Wild, National Geographic Gold, Fox Sports, Fox Sports 2 and Baby TV.

     

    Prior to joining FIC, Siriah has held several leadership positions in the media industry both in the region and prior to that in India.

     

    On her appointment Theiler said, “The appointment of Ratna reflects our ambition in Sub-Saharan Africa. She brings a vigorous commercial approach to the market and an impressive ability to understand the needs of our fans, affiliate partners and advertisers. Her pure energy and enthusiasm for product driven growth is in line with the culture of FIC.
