    Freida Pinto-Riz Ahmed starrer to screen at Durban Intl film fest

    MUMBAI: Michael Winterbottom‘s Trishna, starring Freida Pinto and Riz Ahmed, will screen in Global Cinema section at the 33rd Durban International Film Festival. The festival will see screening of over 290 films at 10 venues across the city.

    Bitter Seeds (India-US) directed by Micha X Peled will be screened in Eco Lens section. The film looks at the impact of multinational GM corporations on small farmers in India.

    Valley of Saints (directed by Musa Syeed) will also be screened in the same section.

    The festival will be held from 19-29 July.

    Terrence Malick signs Freida Pinto and Christian Bale for next

    MUMBAI: Terrence Malick has signed Freida Pinto and Christian Bale for his next project‘Knight of Cups. The film will also star Natalie Portman and Cate Blanchett.
    After her entry into films in Slumdog Millionaire, Pinto has been making strides in Hollywood. She has successfully avoided being stereotyped in Hollywood by playing variety of roles in films like You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Immortals.
    Bale, an Oscar-winning actor, is famous for his methodical approach to roles. He will be next seen in theatres in The Dark Knight Rises, the final triology of Christopher Nolan‘s Batman saga on 20 July.
    After Brad Pitt starrer ‘The Tree of Life‘, Malick, will explore the theme of love and truth in the film, which has already gone on floors in Santa Monica. Malick, considered Hollywood‘s big foot for being extremely reclusive, has directed only five feature films in his four decade long career but his films are highly regarded.

    Immortals hauls $ 32 million in North America

    MUMBAI: Director of Indian origin, Tarsem Singh‘s 3D adventure Immortals has hauled $32.2 million in 3,112 locations in North America and $38 million internationally in 35 countries.


    Opening November 11, the Freida Pinto starrer took the number one spot in America and became the highest R-Rated action film this year and the third highest-grossing R-rated film debut in 2011 behind The Hangover 2 ($85.9mm) and Paranormal Activity 3 ($52.6mm), according to distributor Relativity Media statement.


    Relativity went into a robust marketing and publicity campaign that began by targeting the elusive under 35 male demographic, and leveraging innovative partnerships.


    Exit polls indicate that the film reached that specific group and beyond as 75 per cent of its audience was under 35 while 25 per cent was over 35 years of age.
