    NDS joins Anytime Technology partner programme

    MUMBAI: Anytime, Asia Pacific’s leading Video on-Demand (VoD) channel, today announced that NDS, the leading provider of technology solutions for digital pay-TV, is the newest member of the Anytime Technology Partner Program.

    The Anytime Technology Partner Program is a collaboration between Anytime and the world’s leading VoD technology vendors. It aims to reduce the time to deploy secure, quality, VoD services in Asia Pacific. The Program allows technology vendors to come together to ensure process compliance and data flow compatibility from publishing, to billing API’s and royalty reporting. NDS Group is a NASDAQ-listed company; the largest shareholder in NDS is News Corporation.

    NDS solutions enable broadcasters, network TV operators and content providers to profit from the deployment of digital TV technologies including innovative solutions for digital video recorders, interactivity, secure broadband, home networks and content on the go. NDS boasts an impressive customer list, featuring some of the world’s leading pay-TV operators, such as BSkyB, DIRECTV, SkyLife and FOXTEL, informs an official release.

    NDS joins a rapidly growing number of the world’s leading technology vendors including Verimatrix, SecureMedia, Concurrent and Tatung as members of the Anytime Technology Partner Program.

    The Anytime Technology Partner Program has two levels of agreement – Technology compliance, and Cooperation & Co-marketing. If accepted into the Program, vendors can work with Anytime to ensure their products, services or solutions, comply with the highest industry standards for VoD content delivery.

    The Program is open to STB manufacturers, middleware vendors, Conditional Access and DRM hardware and software makers, VoD server manufacturers, and Systems Integrators. It is vendor-agnostic, ensuring that Telcos, ISPs and Digital Cable providers receive impartial advice and information on VoD delivery technology, the release adds.

    E! inks Asiapac mobile deals with Foxtel, Vodafone

    HONG KONG: E! Network has inked two mobile deals in Asia-Pacific with Foxtel by Mobile and Vodafone in Australia.

    The announcement was made today by E! Networks MD Asia Christine Fellowes.

    According to her, “E! continues to lead the way in digital media, having established a specialized production unit last year named Short Form programming and New Content Unit or Spanc designed to develop short form and new media content.”

    Foxtel by Mobile will offer E! content on its 3G platform beginning this month, offering 90 minutes looped video feed of E1’s content featuring the latest in entertainment news information, celebrity profiles and providing consumers with a linear experience similar to traditional TV.

    E! Network’s present wireless partners in Asia-pacific include Telecom New Zealand, 3 Australia and Starhub Singapore.

    The E! Everywhere initiative, which first launched in early 2006, is designed to empower E! audiences to consume content whenever, wherever and however they choose.

    Star appoints David Butorac as president, Platforms

    MUMBAI: Star has appointed David Butorac as its president, Platforms. Butorac will report to Star CEO Michelle Guthrie.

    In this newly created role, Butorac will be responsible for developing opportunities in platform businesses across Asia to enhance the delivery of Star’s content to the consumer. He will also work to strengthen the operations of Star’s joint venture platforms, especially in light of the recent launch of the Tata Sky satellite service in India.

    Commenting on the appointment, Guthrie said, “As we continue to drive more quality content to more people across Asia, the distribution platform side of our business has become increasingly important to the success of our future growth. The need for someone of David’s calibre became apparent. David’s pay-TV experience in Asia, as well as with News Corporation platforms Foxtel and BSkyB, gives him credentials that are unmatched, and we feel very fortunate to have attracted him to Star.”

    Butorac said, “With diverse services and businesses that span Asia and beyond, Star is a unique media company, and I am very excited to come on board and work with Michelle as well as with the rest of Star’s talented team. With a lot of growth still to come in the region, I look very much forward to playing a part in Star’s further development, particularly with its platform businesses.”

    Butorac will join Star in November, upon the completion of his current duties as Group COO, Astro Asia Allnetworks Plc.

    Butorac, 44, has vast experience in the field of broadcasting. Prior to joining Astro as COO in 2002, he worked for 14 years at British Sky Broadcasting (BSkyB) where he held a series of positions, including head of Operations, BSkyB, from 1992 to 1995 and Station Manager from 1995 to 2002. While on temporary reassignment from BSkyB, he served as Operations director for the launch of Foxtel in Australia in 1995 and undertook consultant roles for other News Corporation broadcast companies. Prior to 1989, Butorac worked in television news broadcasting in Australia and the UK, states an official release.

    BVITV concludes deal with Australian pay TV platform Foxtel

    MUMBAI: Buena Vista International Television-Asia Pacific (BVITV-AP), which distributes television shows of Disney, ABC has concluded a multi-year multi-genre volume agreement with Australian pay TV provider Foxtel for subscription TV rights to live action and reality series, ABC News documentaries, daytime programming and TV specials.

    Foxtel channels will access shows like Lost, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, My Wife and Kids, Hope and Faith and Extreme Makeover, and renewals of comedies like Home Improvement and Scrubs.

    This agreement also continues to provide Foxtel’s channels rights to 19 time Emmy award-winning talk show The View, which recently announced the addition of new co-host Rosie O’Donnell, as well as a portfolio of ABC News documentaries such as Haunted Town and Toughest Jail.

    BVITV-AP senior vice president and managing director Steve Macallister said, “Commitment to our clients drives BVITV’s business and the conclusion of this agreement, which builds on an already successful decade-long relationship with Foxtel is a prime example of that commitment. BVITV programming continues to have strong international appeal and we are delighted to be providing some of the hottest programs on television, including Lost and Desperate Housewives to pay TV viewers in Australia.”

    Foxtel, Mark Burnett Productions sign deal

    MUMBAI: Mark Burnett Productions (MBP) which specialises in reality shows has signed an output deal with Australian pay TV platform Foxtel.

    Foxtel will be able to show shows like the second season of Rock Star.

    The deal also covers seasons two and three of the boxing based reality show The Contender and season six of The Apprentice.

    Foxtel will also assist MBP in the Australian audition process for contestants to participate in Rock Star 2. Foxtel executive director of television and marketing Brian Walsh says, “Mark Burnett is truly a giant of television and Foxtel will now be the home to his hit series Rock Star, The Contender and The Apprentice. This deal will continue Foxtel’s ongoing strategy to offer our subscribers an increasing choice of exclusive content that is only available on our platform.”
