  • Bruce Willis moonlights on Fox’s sitcom ‘That 70’s Show’

MUMBAI: Actor Bruce Willis goes back to the ’70s when he makes a special guest appearance on US broadcaster Fox’s sitcom That ’70s Show. Willis’ episode is scheduled to air in November. The new season of the sitcom premieres on 2 November. In India the show airs on Star World.

One of the stars of the show Ashton Kutcher had asked Willis to do an episode. Willis agreed because he thought it would be fun to work with his good friend (who also happens to be Willis’ former wife Demi Moore’s toy boy). In the episode, Willis portrays Vic, a sketchy fast-talker who is the head of security at the Playboy Club in Chicago. Vic, who sports a bad toupee and thick glasses, has a penchant for spicy nachos and referring to himself in the third person. Vic interviews Kutcher’s character for a security position at the club.

Willis has donated his episode fee for his work on the show to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Fox has agreed to match his donation to the fund.

  • Fox’s new reality show travels into space

MUMBAI: The reality genre has worked well for US broadcaster Fox courtesy American Idol. Now the channel has announced a new reality show that goes beyond the fourth wall, into the fourth dimension

It will come out with a new adventure competition series XQuest from Imagine Entertainment’s Ron Howard who directed A Beautiful Mind, Brian Grazer and David Nevins; Spectrum MediaWorks’ Jim Banister and Alexander Seropian and Emmy Award-winning producers Brady Connell and Jim Jusko of Base Camp Films. The series combines scripted, unscripted and gaming genres

Over multiple episodes, two teams of contestants will be pushed past their physical skills, mental acuity, emotional boundaries and the limits of their imaginations as they leave behind the world as we know it. They will literally enter a new realm as they live and work aboard state-of-the-art “biocrafts,” which will provide the experience of space travel.

Over the course of a month, the contestants’ perceptions will become reality as they are immersed in every sensorial way possible – sights, sounds, motion and environmental on a 24/7 and 360-degree basis – to take them on an outer-space mission.

Graphics, physical effects and game technologies to allow contestants to experience space travel and compete in challenges over an extended period of time. The ambitious project will require as a year of pre-production to create the necessary biocrafts, facilities and programmes. The biocrafts’ interiors are designed with technologically advanced functionality complete with living quarters, bathrooms and cooking facilities. The interiors are also rigged with multiple 24-hour cameras and microphones. The contestants will never come into contact with camera crews. In fact, with the exception of limited communication with Mission Control, they will in a sense be completely cut off from Earth.

While immersed in this environment, the teams will compete on missions, which will take their respective biocrafts to intergalactic locales. Periodically, the teams will be forced to jettison a crew member, until – at the end of a month of complete immersion – a winner returns to Earth.

  • After ABC it is Fox’s turn to dance

MUMBAI: A few months ago BBC’s smash hit Strictly Come Dancing debuted in the US on ABC. That show helped ABC solidify its ratings position. Now rival Fox has announced that it will kick off its own show So You Think You Can Dance on 20 July.

On the show America’s top choreographers will put dancers through their paces

Dancers skilled in everything from ballroom and ballet to salsa, jive, hip-hop and krumping, all compete to be named the best. Dancers must impress the judges with their moves and rigorous routines in order to survive the auditions and be invited to Hollywood. Producers travelled to Chicago, New York and Los Angeles in search of dancers who represent the soul and rhythm of America. Some dancers wow the judges, while others leave them speechless.

One of the judges of Fox’s music based reality show American Idol Paula Abdul may take part in the dance show. American Idol executive producer Nigel Lythgoe, who is also producing the dance show says that he does not want to reveal details at this point because there is no guarantee that Abdul would agree.

On the show 50 dancers who survive the auditions will go to Hollywood to work with five of the top choreographers in the business: Alex Da Silva, Brian Friedman, Dan Karaty, Mia Michaels and Mary Murphy. During the Hollywood Week the semi finalists will dance their hearts out, as they learn challenging routines and hope to impress the choreographers.

The concept was created by Simon Fuller and Nigel Lythgoe and comes from 19 TV and Dick Clark Productions.
