  • Bol Bachchan collects Rs 824.4 million net in 10 days, says Fox Star Studios

    MUMBAI: The Ajay Devgn-Abhishek Bachchan starrer and Rohit Shetty – directed Bol Bachchan has collected Rs 824.4 million net in 10 days, according to the film‘s distributor, Fox Star Studios.

    The film, which collected Rs 668.1 million net all across India in the first week, has managed to stay strong during week two as well, despite the release of the Saif Ali Khan-Deepika Padukore and Diana Penty starrer Cocktail on Friday.

    According to Fox Star Studios, the comic film showed an upward trend in the second weekend collections with figures such as Rs 32.5 million on Friday, Rs 53.5 million on Saturday and Rs 70.3 million on Sunday taking the 2nd weekend total to a strong figure of Rs 156.3 million net.

    Presented by Fox Star Studios and produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision and Ajay Devgn Films‘, the film also has Asin and Prachi Desai in lead roles.

    MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios is set to release Tim Burton and Timur Bekmambetov‘s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3D on 13 July across India.

    With the release, a brand new twist in one of the greatest chapters of American history is set to be revealed.

    Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter explores the secret life of Abraham Lincoln, USA‘s most famous president and talks about the untold story that shaped the American nation. The story centers on Lincoln, the 16th President of the US who discovers that vampires are planning to take over the US and hence he makes it his mission to eliminate them.

    Noted Tim Burton in a statement, “Lincoln‘s entire life mirrors the classic comic book superhero mythology. It‘s a duality: during the day he‘s the president of the United States; at night, a vampire hunter.”

    Starring Benjamin Walker, a fresh cast of rising star, as Abraham Lincoln, the film also has Dominic Cooper, Anthony Mackie, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Rufus Sewell and Marton Csokas.

    “The problems we are facing now are almost the same as in his day. The Civil War is still happening. Especially here in New Orleans, in Louisiana, you feel this as dramatic as it was 150 years ago. Still, all the problems are here. And still we have to finish what he began,” comments co-producer director Bekmambetov.

    Remake of Chupke Chupke in offing

    MUMBAI: When David Dhawan announced the remake of Chasme Baddoor, everyone thought that the remake of the 1975 Hrishikesh Mukherjee‘s Chupke Chupke was not far away.

    And now, days after it was announced that Viacom 18 Motion Pictures would release Chasme Baddoor on 31 August, Dhawan has come out with the news that his next would be the remake of the Dharmendra-Amitabh Bachchan-Sharmila Tagore-Jaya Bhaduri rip roaring comedy Chupke Chupke.

    While the casting of the new Chupke Chupke is yet to be decided, it is said that the role of the heroine‘s suspicious brother-in-law played by the late Om Prakash would likely be essayed by Rishi Kapoor.

    It may be recalled that Kapoor has already had a stint of working with Dhawan while working on the remake of Sai Paranjpye‘s Chashme Buddoor.

    Chupke Chupke is to be co-produced by Fox Star Studios and White Stripes, an entertainment company focused on film and TV production.

    Cinemax CEO Sunil Punjabi quits

    MUMBAI: After helming the exhibition business of multiplex chain Cinemax for almost two years as its chief executive officer, Sunil Punjabi has decided to call it quits.

    He had joined the company in July, 2010.

    “Yes, I put in my papers last Monday and will be on the job till next Friday (25 May). Right now I am exploring opportunities,” said Punjabi who had joined the company in July 2010.

    An engineering graduate and an MBA, Punjabi earlier worked with Sony where he was responsible for business development for sports, movie and music TV channels. He was also looking after new media, telephony and syndication divisions.

    Prior to joining Sony, Punjabi headed the film production & distribution strategy at Fox Star Studios India for a period of two years.

    Vizeum bags Fox Star Studios’ media biz

    MUMBAI: Aegis Media’s Vizeum India has been awarded the media mandate of Fox Star Studio.

    Fox has appointed the agency in a move towards consolidating its media operations in the Indian market.

    Vizeum already handles the Fox business in 20 other countries in the world. It will now be involved in various initiatives to plan the media strategy and help optimise the marketing investments for Fox Star Studio’s marketing investments in India as well.

    Fox Star Studios head- distribution, marketing and syndication Vivek Krishnani said, “We operate in an Industry where information availability is a challenge and spending decisions need to be more scientific. Being part of a global set up, it puts challenges on us to create accountability for the resources invested in promoting our films. Vizeum brings in an understanding of the media environment and the media dynamics which will help us optimise our media spends and help deliver a better ROI.     Michael Fassbender coming to India to promote Prometheus

    MUMBAI: If things go according to plans of Fox Star Studios India, Michael Fassbender and Ridley Scott will visit the country before the release of Prometheus.

    An upcoming science fiction, the film is the story about how the crew of the spaceship Prometheus is sent on a scientific expedition to follow the map that is discovered within the imagery of Aztec, Mesopotamian and Magdalenian cultures as part of its mission to find the origins of mankind.

    Exploring the advanced civilisation of an extraterrestrial race, they soon face a threat to humanity‘s very existence.

    Fassbender is best known for his roles in the much talked about Shame and X Men First Class. Fox has confirmed the visit of Oscar nominated filmmaker Ang Lee to India in December 2012.

    Fox Star Studios was the one to get Hugh Jackman to India earlier.

    Prometheus releases in India on 8 June.

    Censor Board retains two cuts of Titanic in 3D version

    MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios, India’s forthcoming release of the 3D version of James Cameron‘s Titanic, has been passed without any cuts and has received a clear U/A censor rating by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

    This time, the Board has retained two scenes of which one was where Leonardo Di Caprio sketches a nude Kate Winslet. The scenes were cut when the film was released here in 1997.

    The film, to be released in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, is a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and a special tribute to the tragedy that took place in 1912.

    The film releases on 5 April.

    Saif Ali Khan mulls 3D sequel of Agent Vinod

    MUMBAI: After the release of his spy drama Agent Vinod, Saif Ali has Khan has started work on his next assignments.

    On top of the list of his prioriities is a 3D sequel of Agent Vinod. “I don‘t understand 3D and don‘t enjoy it, but my son does. So, may be for the larger portion of audiences, one should consider it for a sequel,” Khan said.

    Khan is also mulling with the idea of making an action thriller that would be based on a French comic book. He has already procured the rights to adapt the book for a film remake.

    Said Khan, “The film is definitely on the anvil. This is a great story and if it is done in the right way, it would be something unique. Beyond that, it would be premature to talk about the director, cast members and other details. Let‘s wait for a while for the complete announcement.”

    The film, expected to be mounted on a huge scale, would be co-produced by Khan and Fox Star Studios India and directed by Anurag Basu.

    Both Khan and Basu will sit across to finalise other logistics before bringing the film on the floors after the latter finishes his production in progress film Barfi.

    Fox Star Studios, Vishal Bhardwaj to produce Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola

    MUMBAI: Fox Star Studios India and Vishal Bhardwaj are producing Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola where they have roped in Shabana Azmi to play the role of a corrupt politician.

    Azmi had earlier essayed the the role of a politician in Vinay Shukla’s Godmother.

    The film, scheduled to release on 15 May, is the tale of a wayward man who sets on a rustic journey to reunite with his wife and parents. The film also reunites Azmi‘s pairing with Naseeruddin Shah.

    Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola also features Imran Khan and Anushka Sharma in the lead roles along with Pankaj Kapur.

    The film is to be shot be in the interior regions of Haryana.

    Titanic sails back to India after 15 years, to show in 3D avatar

    MUMBAI: James Cameron’s Titanic is going to be re-released in India on 5 April, albeit in its new 3D makeover in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.

    The release marks the commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the sailing of the Titanic while paying a special tribute to the tragedy that took place in 1912.

    As a promotional initiative, Fox Star Studios India has flown down producer Jon Landau, the man behind the two biggest grossers Titanic and Avatar , for a tour of Mumbai and Delhi. The producer will present 45 minutes of the film in 3D to media and prominent Bollywood personalities at PVR Juhu on 22 March. What‘s more, he is carrying with him the prestigious Oscar statuette he won for Titanic in 1997.

    Confirming Landau‘s visit, Fox Star Studios India CEO Vijay Singh said, “We are extremely happy to host Landau, who is in the city. There is huge excitement for Titanic 3D in India with an unprecedented 2.5 million fans on its social networking page.”

    Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet, Titanic first released in 1997 and is one of the greatest love stories of all time, having won 11 Oscars.

    Speaking about his film, Cameron has said in a statement, “We get to bring Titanic back to the big screen after having been gone for 15 years. I‘ve always thought of watching this film in theatres as a social phenomenon where parents will take their children or teenagers would go with their mom. I‘m a strong believer in the theatrical experience in general and specifically for this film.”
