Rockstar nets Rs 440 million in first week on BO

MUMBAI: After a promising opening weekend collection of Rs 325 million, thanks to the patronage of youngsters thronging select multiplexes, Rockstar saw a major drop during the week.

The Ranbir Kapoor starrer ended the first week with a net box office collection of Rs 440 million.

The sole release of this week, Shakal Pe Mat Ja, met with the expected disastrous fate.

Ra.One collected a measly Rs 15 million in the week to take its total box office collection to Rs 1.06 billion.

Meanwhile, recent releases Loot, MIley Na Miley, Tell Me O Khuda, Force, Rascals, Mujhse Fraandship Karoge have not been able to occupy the cinemas for any substantial duration. Also, solo releases of Ra.One and Rockstar have further starved the cinema halls since both films have failed to draw the audience beyond few days.

MUMBAI: Rockstar finds its niche at multiplexes of Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and other major cities, while the status at single screens and interior centres is in total contrast as it finds no appreciation there. The film definitely adds to the fan following of Ranbir Kapoor.

The opening weekend collection stands at Rs 325 million.

Miley Naa Miley Hum and Tension Doooor fared poorly in their first week run.

Ra.One‘s second week collections are mere token of its first week (nine days) figurers. The superhero film collected Rs 153 million, taking its two-week total to Rs 1.05 billion.

Tell Me O Khuda, Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge, Raascals, Force make it to the flop list.

MUMBAI: Of the five releases last Friday, action oriented Force is the only one to stand its ground at the box office. However, coming as it does after a number of south action remakes, the film‘s weekend has posted average collections with Rs 159 million.

Sahib Biwi Aur Gangster enjoyed good reviews but this did not reflect on its collections.

  • Force is an average action fare

Force is an average action fare

Force uses the tried and tested formula of good vs evil, honest cop vs the underworld.

A remake of the Tamil film Kaakha Kaakha (also made into Telugu and Kannada), it packs the regular South formula of slotting romance and songs through most of its first half and going for no holds barred action otherwise.

The action is brute, fast paced and gory at times. But then, that is its draw for it caters to the much deprived action film lovers.

John Abraham is an undercover officer with the Narcotics Cell, with a nothing to lose attitude. He has nobody to mourn him if he were to sacrifice his life in the line of duty. He is a lethal combination of muscle and mind and believes in instant justice advocating finishing a criminal with a Rs 200 bullet rather than spending crores to keep him in jail.

He is assigned to go after all the gangs that deal in narcotics in India and, with his team of three others, busts the four major gangs operating at four entry points of India. Soon he realises that the drugs are back in the market and he and his cell were only used to eliminate all the other drug barons so that a new gang led by two brothers, Mukesh Rishi and Vidyut Jamwal, could flourish as a monopoly.
